00:00Special Me has already proven to be the broodmare of a lifetime for Carrie and Craig Brogden,
00:07but at the age of 18, she still has plenty more in the pipeline.
00:11This year, she has a yearling by Twirling Candy, a filly pointing to the Keeneland September
00:15sale, and another filly at her side from the first crop of Flightline.
00:21It's kind of amazing that she was actually named Special Me and she became so special.
00:26I mean, she's paid for everything.
00:29Basically, they paid for us to have a house in Lexington and for our kids' school and
00:34my daughter's college and my son's college.
00:37And, I mean, you know, she's the giving tree.
00:40Special Me is the dam of two Grade 1 winners and two Grade 2 winners.
00:45Grade 1 winner Gift Box, who is the stallion that stands at Lane's End.
00:49And then she's also the dam of current Grade 1 winner Gina Romanica, who just ran third
00:53in another Grade 1 at Saratoga.
00:56And then she's the dam of the Candy Ride, Grade 2 winner.
01:01And then she's the dam of Stone Tastic, who is also a Grade 2 winner by Miz and Mast.
01:08We had Gina Romanica, and then she had a Curlin filly that unfortunately was killed in a freak
01:14paddock accident.
01:16And then, she's never been barren.
01:18She aborted a Quality Road baby.
01:21That's the only year she's ever missed.
01:24Pullmore bought her now two-year-old for $1.2 million, and he was a full brother to
01:29Gina Romanica.
01:30And we did that mating before Gina became a Grade 1 winner.
01:33And then we bred her back to Twirling Candy, obviously to repeat the Gift Box breeding.
01:38She definitely has some traits of Twirling Candy, and she definitely has some traits
01:43of Embroidered Song.
01:45So, she is cataloged in Book 1, Keeneland, September.
01:48Big, strong filly, correct.
01:50Mira always throws correct.
01:52Never had a crooked horse.
01:53No matter who we bred her to, she's never had a crooked horse.
01:58Then, we went to Flightline and have the resultant filly here.
02:02And then, we bred her back to Into Mischief, and she's pregnant back to Into Mischief,
02:07now carrying a full sibling to Gina.
02:10When the Flightline filly, we knew it was coming.
02:14And of course, I told Craig, I said, do not tell me when that mare is getting ready to
02:18fold, because I will be puking until it's born.
02:21So, all we got in the middle of the night at like 2.30 in the morning was like, it's
02:25a filly!
02:26And, I mean, from this kind of mare, what else can you ask for?
02:30The Flightline filly, if I had imagined the best case scenario of what we could have possibly
02:37gotten from this mare, it would be what this filly is times two.
02:41Right now, she's really saucy.
02:43I don't know if she's saucy because the guys are like afraid of her, because she's like
02:48worth so much money.
02:50But that both of them are going to be really hard to sell, because at some point, we know
02:56it'll be retirement for her.
02:58But it's hard to put into words something that you just can't believe you actually have.
03:03I think she must give something to her foals, like some tenaciousness or toughness.
03:09I mean, the reason that they've been so sound and successful, I would assume.
03:15I can't predict the genetics.
03:17But obviously, there's something special going on.
03:21She's a heart, though.
03:22Gosh, she has a heart the size of Texas.
