Honduras Plane Crash Claims 12 Lives, Including Renowned Musician

A tragic plane crash off the coast of Roatán Island, Honduras, on March 17, 2025, has left 12 people dead, including renowned musician and former politician Aurelio Martínez Suazo. The Lanhsa Airlines aircraft, carrying 17 passengers, crashed into the Caribbean Sea shortly after takeoff en route to La Ceiba on the Honduran mainland.

Rescue teams, including the Honduran Armed Forces and Fire Department, responded swiftly, managing to save five survivors, who are now receiving medical treatment. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash, as aviation safety concerns rise in the region.

President Xiomara Castro has mobilized emergency services and extended condolences to the victims’ families. The Garífuna community mourns the loss of Martínez Suazo, a cultural icon known for preserving the region’s rich heritage.
