00:00A dash cam is only as good as the quality of the camera.
00:02Some of these claim to have 4K and others 1080p.
00:05So the question is, is that $30 dash cam just as good as the one that cost $130?
00:10Let's find out.
00:11In the first test, we'll see which dash cams do the best job at reading license plates.
00:15Then we'll see which ones do the best job of capturing images while moving.
00:18Finally, we'll see which dash cams are for the best night vision.
00:21The least expensive camera we'll be testing at a price of $22 is this V300.
00:25They claim that this camera has unmatched clarity with a 1296p HD resolution.
00:30It does not come with a memory card.
00:31They claim it offers superior night vision,
00:33built-in Wi-Fi, an exclusive vCar app to effortlessly control your Wi-Fi front dash cam.
00:40And the V300 is made in China.
00:42The V300 does not have a display.
00:44So unless you're using the mobile app,
00:46setting up the camera to be pointed in the right direction is a bit of a guessing game.
00:49In the first test, let's compare how the dash cams perform facing west into the sunset.
00:53The signs indicate the distance from the test vehicle
00:56and the farthest is 75 feet away and looks pretty grainy.
00:58At 10 feet in front of the test vehicle,
01:00it's pretty challenging to read the license plate.
01:02At only 15 feet, I can no longer read the license plate.
01:05At a price of $30 is this Aerophase brand.
01:08They claim Wi-Fi FHD 1080p.
01:10It offers a 24-hour parking mode,
01:12supports up to 128 gigabyte SD card,
01:15up to 30 frames per second.
01:22And the Aerophase is made in China.
01:24The V300 is on the left and the Aerophase is on the right.
01:26And the Aerophase is capturing more light.
01:28However, the video footage is even more grainy than the less expensive V300.
01:32At 10 feet out, the license plate is somewhat difficult to read for both dash cameras.
01:36At 15 feet, the license plate is pretty grainy for both cameras.
01:40I can no longer read the license plate at 20 feet.
01:42At a price of $40 is this Midan S7.
01:45They claim it offers 2.5K for the front cam and 1080p for the rear.
01:48It offers a front and rear camera.
01:50It has a large 3.2 inch full HD screen.
01:53And the Midan S7 is made in China.
01:55And the Aerophase is on the left and the Midan is on the right.
01:58Pointed into the sunset, the Midan looks way too dark or underexposed.
02:02And the Midan looks just as grainy as the Aerophase
02:04for a license plate at 10 and 15 feet from the test vehicle.
02:07I can no longer read the license plate at 20 feet.
02:09At a price of $45 is this E-Jigger S60.
02:12They claim it has a 2560p mini car camera, 2-inch IPS screen.
02:17It comes with a 32 gigabyte SD card, WDR night vision.
02:21It supports up to 256 gigabyte card.
02:23And the S60 is made in China.
02:25The Midan is on the left and the E-Jigger is on the right.
02:28And the amount of light with the E-Jigger seems about right.
02:30However, both cameras seem pretty grainy at 75 feet.
02:33Both cameras are performing about the same at capturing the license plate at 10 feet.
02:37And the license plate is pretty grainy at 15 feet.
02:39At a price of $65 is this OVAMIN K600.
02:43It's a dual channel dash camera.
02:44They claim the camera is 4K ultra clear.
02:47It's also supposed to offer 5G Wi-Fi.
02:49It includes GPS tracking.
02:51And the OVAMIN is made in China.
02:52The screen size is 3.59 inches.
02:55It comes with a 32 gigabyte SD card.
02:57The E-Jigger is on the left and the OVAMIN is on the right.
03:00And the OVAMIN seems to be offering the right amount of light,
03:02definitely better than the E-Jigger.
03:04And the OVAMIN is definitely offering the sharpest image yet.
03:06With the OVAMIN, it's pretty easy to read the license plate at 10 feet away.
03:10Still looking good at 15 feet.
03:12Becoming a little more difficult at 20 feet, but twice the distance as the previous brands.
03:16At a price of $90 is this Cool Crazy brand.
03:18They claim it offers 4K ultra clear, 5G Wi-Fi.
03:22It also offers GPS tracking.
03:23It's a front and rear dash cam.
03:25They claim it offers ultra high definition 2160p night vision.
03:29They claim it helps you read the numbers on license plates.
03:31The OVAMIN is on the left and the Cool Crazy is on the right.
03:34And the Cool Crazy seems unbothered by the sunlight
03:36and the exposure level seems to be the best yet.
03:38And the license plate is pretty easy to read at 10 and 15 feet.
03:42And the Cool Crazy is definitely the best yet at 20 feet.
03:44And the license plate is pretty grainy at 25 feet, but still readable.
03:48And it's too grainy for me to read at 30 feet.
03:50With a coupon at a price of $100 is this Red Tiger brand.
03:53This is a very popular dash cam with over 10,000 sold each month.
03:57It includes both the forward and rear facing cameras.
03:59The front camera claims to be full 4K.
04:02It comes with a 32 gigabyte SD card.
04:04It has built-in Wi-Fi GPS.
04:06It also has a 3.16 inch screen.
04:08It also offers night vision.
04:10And Red Tiger is made in China.
04:12Cool Crazy is on the left and the Red Tiger is on the right.
04:14Facing into the sunset, both cameras are doing a pretty good job,
04:17but the brightness level of the Red Tiger looks a little bit better.
04:20And the license plate is very easy to read at 10 and 15 feet.
04:23The Cool Crazy and the Red Tiger are now tied for the best yet at 20 feet.
04:27And the license plate is pretty grainy for both cameras at 25 feet, but still readable.
04:31And it's just too grainy for me to read the license plate from 30 feet away.
04:34Also at a price of $100, the same price as the Red Tiger is this Rove R2.
04:38They claim that it has a Starvis 2 sensor.

04:46They claim it offers full 4K.
04:48They claim the rear camera is 1080p.
04:50They claim it offers exceptional image quality and vivid colors and sharp details,
04:54even in challenging lighting conditions.
04:55We're going to test that.
04:57It even offers GPS.
04:58And the Rove R2 is made in China.
05:01The Red Tiger is on the left and the Rove is on the right.
05:04And the Rove seems to offer the sharpest image yet,
05:06and the sun at 75 feet distance is pretty clear.
05:09And the license plate is very easy to read at 10 and 15 feet.
05:12The Red Tiger and the Rove are still doing well at 20 feet.
05:15And the license plate is pretty grainy for both cameras at 25 feet, but still readable.
05:19And it's too grainy for me to read at 30 feet.
05:21At a price of $114 with the coupon is this Wolfbox i07.
05:25It's a three-channel dash cam with three different cameras.
05:28The forward-facing camera is full 4K and the two additional cameras are 1080p.
05:32It comes with a 32 gigabyte SD card, IR night vision, and 24-hour parking mode.
05:37It's supposed to have six infrared night vision LED lights with advanced Starvis technology.
05:41And the Wolfbox is made in China.
05:43Rove is on the left and the Wolfbox is on the right.
05:45And the light from the sunset is causing the Wolfbox to appear underexposed.
05:49However, the 75-foot marker seems almost as sharp as the Rove.
05:52And the license plate is very clear at 10 and 15 feet.
05:55Both cameras are still fairly sharp at 20 feet.
05:58And the license plate is pretty grainy at 25 feet and too grainy to read at 30.
06:02At a price of $114 is this Viofo brand.
06:05They claim it has a 1440p camera and 60 frames per second.
06:08Unlike most of the other brands, it's only designed for front dash cam.
06:11They claim it has a 5 megapixel Starvis sensor, 140 degree wide angle.
06:16It includes GPS and a buffered parking mode.
06:18And the Viofo brand is made in China.
06:20And the Wolfbox is on the left and the Viofo is on the right.
06:23Even facing into the sunset, the exposure level with the Viofo seems about perfect.
06:27And the Viofo definitely seems to have the sharpest image yet.
06:30And the sharpness of the sign at 75 feet is looking great.
06:32And the license plate is very clear at 10 and 15 feet.
06:35And both cameras are still fairly sharp at 20 feet, but the Viofo looks better.
06:39And the Viofo is definitely doing better at 25 feet.
06:42And I can read the Viofo at 30 feet the best yet.
06:44At a price of $120 with the coupon is this Pruveo brand.
06:48They claim it's a 360 degree four channel dash cam.
06:51Built-in GPS, Wi-Fi, and night vision.
06:53It even comes with a 128 gigabyte SD card.
06:56They claim all four cameras can record at 1080p.
07:00And the Pruveo is made in China.
07:02The Viofo was on the left and the Pruveo was on the right.
07:04And the Pruveo seems underexposed and quite a bit less sharp than the Viofo.
07:08And the sign is pretty grainy at 75 feet.
07:10The license plate is pretty easy to read at 10 feet,
07:13but the Pruveo looks pretty grainy at 15.
07:15Unfortunately, I can't read the license plate with Pruveo at 20 feet.
07:19Comparing the first place finisher, the Viofo against the Midan,
07:21you can see a huge difference in sharpness and exposure.
07:24And there's also a huge difference in sharpness at 10 and 15 feet,
07:27with a huge advantage going to the Viofo.
07:29License plate readability facing into the sunset is somewhat subjective,
07:32but the Viofo came out on top at 30 feet.
07:35The Cool Crazy, Red Tiger, Rove, and Wolfbox tied for second place at 25 feet.
07:39Assessing light exposure facing into the sun is highly subjective,
07:42but the Red Tiger, Rove, and Viofo received the best possible rating of 1.
07:46In the next test, let's see how the dash cams perform
07:48at capturing the name of the road sign while driving past it at 35 miles per hour.
07:52At 30 frames per second, I'm unable to read the road sign while driving past it with the V300.
07:57Stopping the video footage and then zooming in on the signs,
08:00I can only read one of the two signs.
08:02And the Aerophase performed a little bit better than the V300 and both signs are readable.
08:06The V300 is on the left and the Aerophase is on the right.
08:08And the Aerophase definitely did a better job with the signs
08:11and the trees in the background are not as grainy.
08:13In case you're wondering, there's nothing on the camera lens of the Midan.
08:16It really does look this bad.
08:17And the Aerophase is on the left and the Midan is on the right.
08:20And the Aerophase definitely offers a sharper image this time.
08:22The trees in the background also look sharper with the Aerophase.
08:25And the E-Jigger also struggled in this test.
08:28Only one of the two signs is readable.
08:30The Midan is on the left and the E-Jigger is on the right.
08:32And the Midan definitely performed better this time.
08:34And the Overman claims to offer 4K video
08:36but both road signs appear pretty grainy as well as the trees in the background.
08:40The E-Jigger is on the left and the Overman is on the right.
08:42Even though the image is pretty grainy, the Overman definitely performed better.
08:46And the Cool Crazy claims to offer 4K video
08:48and the Cool Crazy is doing by far the best job yet.
08:51Overman is on the left and the Cool Crazy is on the right.
08:53And the Cool Crazy offers a much sharper image of both signs
08:56as well as the trees in the background.
08:58And the Red Tiger also claims to offer 4K video.
09:01And the Red Tiger is also performing well
09:02and offering a crisp image of both signs and the trees in the background.
09:06Cool Crazy is on the left and the Red Tiger is on the right.
09:08Both cameras are doing a great job but the Cool Crazy seems a little bit sharper.
09:12Just like the Red Tiger, the Rove claims to deliver 4K video.
09:15And the sharpness of the signs looks pretty good.
09:17Red Tiger is on the left and the Rove is on the right.
09:20And both cameras seem to be performing about the same.
09:22And the Wolfbox claims to offer 4K video
09:24and seems to be offering just as much sharpness as the Cool Crazy.
09:27The Rove is on the left and the Wolfbox is on the right.
09:30And the Wolfbox seems to be offering a sharper image of the signs.
09:33And the VIAFO claims to deliver 1440p video
09:36and the VIAFO seems to be performing just about as good as some of the 4K cameras.
09:39Wolfbox is on the left and the VIAFO is on the right.
09:42And the Wolfbox seems to get the win this time
09:44with a little bit sharper image compared to the VIAFO.
09:46And the Pruveo claims to offer 1080p
09:48and the road signs just don't look nearly as sharp compared to the previous five brands.
09:52The VIAFO is on the left and the Pruveo is on the right.
09:55And the VIAFO definitely offers a much sharper image of both signs
09:58as well as the trees in the background.
09:59And the V300 is on the left and the Wolfbox is on the right.
10:02And there's a huge difference between the two brands
10:04with the Wolfbox offering a very sharp image.
10:07Assessing performance is highly subjective
10:08but the Cool Crazy and the Wolfbox did the best job
10:11of providing a sharp image while moving at approximately 35 miles per hour.
10:15The Red Tiger, Rove, and VIAFO also perform well with a rating of 2.
10:18Pulling up to an intersection facing into the sunset
10:20will really put these cameras to the test.
10:23Unfortunately, the V300 is unable to provide a clear image
10:26of the road signs just above and below the stop sign.
10:28However, the highway sign across the street is grainy but sharp enough to read.
10:32And the Aerophase once again is performing better than the V300.
10:35One of the two signs is pretty easy to read.
10:37The V300 is on the left and the Aerophase is on the right.
10:40And the Aerophase is definitely performing a lot better on this test.
10:43And the sunset is causing a lot of problems for the Midan.
10:46Unfortunately, the road signs are unreadable.
10:48The Aerophase is on the left and the Midan is on the right.
10:51And the Aerophase definitely performed quite a bit better.
10:53Just like the Midan, the E-Yeager is really struggling with the road signs.
10:56The Midan is on the left and the E-Yeager is on the right.
10:59Unfortunately, both cameras really struggled on this test
11:02and I'm unable to read the road signs.
11:03Unfortunately, the sunlight from the sunset is also causing issues for the Overman.
11:07However, one of the two signs is barely readable.
11:09The E-Yeager is on the left and the Overman is on the right.
11:12And the Overman is definitely performing better.
11:14And the Cool Crazy continues to perform very well
11:16and the road sign is pretty easy to read.
11:18Even the highway sign across the road looks pretty sharp.
11:21Overman is on the left and the Cool Crazy is on the right.
11:23And there's a huge difference between the brands
11:25and it's a clear advantage for the Cool Crazy.
11:27And the Red Tiger continues to perform well
11:29and both signs look pretty sharp even with some sun reflection on the sign.
11:32Even the road sign across the street is sharp enough to read.
11:35Cool Crazy is on the left and the Overman is on the right.
11:38And both brands performed about the same with the street signs
11:40but the Red Tiger did provide a sharper image of the yellow sign.
11:43And the light from the sunset is really challenging the Rove.
11:46I can read the highway sign across the street
11:48but not the street signs just above the stop sign.
11:50And the Red Tiger is on the left and the Rove is on the right.
11:53And the Red Tiger definitely performed quite a bit better.
11:55And the Wolfbox is also struggling with the light from the sunset.
11:58However, both signs are readable
11:59and the highway sign across the street is also readable.
12:02The Rove is on the left and the Wolfbox is on the right.
12:04And the Wolfbox definitely performed better on this test.
12:07And the VIAFO just might be performing the best yet
12:10with a pretty sharp image of the road sign across the street
12:12as well as the street signs.
12:13And the Wolfbox is on the left and the VIAFO is on the right.
12:16And the VIAFO is definitely performing better.
12:18Even the text on the yellow sign looks pretty sharp.
12:21Unfortunately, things are not going well for the Preveo.
12:23And the street signs are just not readable.
12:25And the highway sign across the street is also not readable.
12:28The VIAFO is on the left and the Preveo is on the right.
12:30And once again, the VIAFO is outperforming the Preveo.
12:33Assessing performance is highly subjective
12:35but the Red Tiger and the VIAFO performed the best with a rating of 1.5.
12:39The Cool Crazy and the Wolfbox also performed well with a rating of 2.
12:42Night vision performance will definitely put these cameras to the test.
12:46Approaching the stop sign, I stopped the vehicle approximately 50 feet away
12:49and I couldn't read the green street sign with the V300.
12:52I then moved ahead and then stopped five additional times
12:54at increments of around 8 to 10 feet.
12:56At the closest stopping point, I can barely read the street sign with the V300.
13:00Overall, the air phase looks sharper than the V300.
13:02At the fifth stopping point, I'm able to read the street sign but it's very grainy.
13:06At the sixth stopping point, it's a little bit easier to read but still very grainy.
13:10And I might really struggle with daytime and sunset performance
13:12but it's performing a little bit better at night.
13:14Just like the air phase, the sign is pretty hard to read at the fifth stopping point.
13:18However, at the sixth stopping point, the street sign is the easiest to read yet.
13:21And the E-Jager also struggled quite a bit with daytime performance
13:24and it's not looking good for the nighttime performance either.
13:27Unfortunately, the street sign is unreadable at each and every stopping point.
13:30And the Overman performed a little bit better than the previous brands
13:33at reading the license plate but it really struggled with most of the other tests.
13:36And the Overman is struggling to read the street sign
13:38but it's finally readable at the sixth and final stopping point.
13:41And the Kool Krazy has outperformed all the previous brands in every test so far.
13:44And the Kool Krazy is outperforming the previous brands once again.
13:48The reflective grain sign is pretty readable at the fifth stop and very easy to read on a sixth stop.
13:52And the Red Tiger has performed very well throughout the showdown
13:55and better than the Kool Krazy in some categories.
13:57And the Red Tiger is doing the best so far with the sign barely readable on the fourth stop
14:01which is the best yet.
14:02The fifth stopping point is looking pretty sharp
14:04and the sixth stopping point looks the best yet.
14:06And the Rovus performed fairly well throughout the showdown
14:08but not quite as well as the Kool Krazy on average.
14:11And the Rovus is finally capturing a pretty sharp image on the fifth stopping point.
14:14At the sixth stopping point it's still looking pretty good.
14:16And the Wolfbox is another one of the best performing dash cameras in the showdown so far.
14:20And the sign is barely readable on the fourth stopping point.
14:23The street sign is pretty easy to read on the fifth stopping point
14:26and very easy to read on the final stopping point.
14:28And the VIAFO has outperformed most of the other cameras in most of the testing so far.
14:32And the VIAFO moves into the lead at the third stopping point.
14:35The image is very grainy but the best so far.
14:37The VIAFO just produced the best image yet on the fourth stopping point.
14:41And the fifth and sixth stopping points look nice and sharp.
14:43With only a 1080p main camera the Preveo is at a pretty big disadvantage
14:47compared to the previous five brands.
14:49And the Preveo is finally gaining a clear image of the street sign on the fifth stopping point.
14:52And the sixth stopping point is looking even better.
14:55Assessing performance is highly subjective but the VIAFO came out on top
14:58with the best possible rating of one.
15:00The Red Tiger and the Wolfbox tied for second place with a finish of 1.5.
15:04And finally in most challenging test yet,
15:06let's see which dash cam does the best job of providing a clear image
15:09of a light box sign with a digital display.
15:11And the V300 is really struggling and cannot read the name on the sign
15:14or the gas price on the digital display.
15:16And the Aerophase cost $8 more than the V300 and is performing about 99 cents better.
15:21Unfortunately the Aerophase is overwhelmed by all the light from the sign and the digital display.
15:25I promise some of the other dash cams are going to perform a lot better.
15:28And the $40 Midan has trailed the $22 V300 in several tests
15:32and is struggling on this test as well.
15:34Unfortunately the Midan is unable to read the sign or the fuel prices.
15:38And the E-Yeager has struggled the most of all the dash cam in the review so far
15:41but is performing marginally better with the lighted sign.
15:44The digital display is very blurry but marginally better than the first three brands.
15:47And the Ovenman has struggled quite a bit throughout the showdown
15:50but is performing better on this test than the first four brands.
15:53I'm unable to read the price of gasoline but diesel appears to cost $3.35 per gallon.
15:58And the Cool Crazy has pretty much ran circles
16:00around the first five brands throughout the entire showdown.
16:02And the Cool Crazy is by far the best yet in the lighted box
16:05and the digital display are very easy to read.
16:07And the Red Tiger has performed better than the Cool Crazy in most categories but not this one.
16:11Unfortunately the lighted box is unreadable and the digital display is also very difficult to read.
16:16And the Rove has performed better than average in most categories
16:19and is doing a great job on this test.
16:20While not quite as sharp as the Cool Crazy
16:22the lighted box and the digital display are readable with the Rove.
16:25And the Wolf Box has also performed better than average in most categories
16:28but is struggling on this test.
16:30Unfortunately the lighted box is unreadable
16:32and the digital display is marginally readable at best.
16:34And the Viapho has outperformed the competition in most categories throughout the showdown.
16:38Even from a couple hundred feet away
16:40the Viapho is providing a pretty readable image of the digital display and the gas station brand.
16:44Up close the Viapho is by far the best yet, very impressive.
16:48And the Pruveo is at a huge disadvantage at 1080p and it continues to struggle on this test.
16:52Unfortunately the lighted box is unreadable
16:55and the digital display is pretty difficult to read.
16:57Assessing performance is highly subjective
16:59but the Viapho received the best possible rating of 1.
17:01Cool Crazy performed almost as well with the rating of 1.5
17:04and Rove finished in third place with a rating of 2.
17:07To help viewers make a more informed buying decision
17:09I've attempted to put together an accurate list of dash cam features and specifications.
17:13However, there was a lot of conflicting information
17:15when comparing the manufacturer's information with the marketing information.
17:18So please double check the information that I've provided
17:21just to make sure the information that I provided is correct.
17:23I decided not to test the rear facing camera
17:25since none of them offer 4k and 1080p
17:28just doesn't offer an acceptable performance in my opinion.
17:30So which dash cam is the best?
17:32I've converted raw performance into a first to 11th place ranking
17:35and the Viapho pretty much ran circles around the competition
17:38and had an average finish of 1.3.
17:40It only offers a forward facing camera
17:42but if it were me I'd buy a second camera for the rear window
17:45if a second camera is desired.
17:46The Red Tiger is also a terrific camera and had an average finish of 2.2.
17:50The Cool Crazy finished in third place with an average finish of 2.7.
17:54If I can only choose one dash cam I'd definitely go with the Viapho.
17:57However, I'd also buy the Red Tiger and the Cool Crazy if the price was right.
18:00I didn't think we'd see such a huge difference in performance among the brands.
