00:00The number of cases of rabies is lower now compared to the same time in 2024.
00:07But the Health Department continues to remind us that if an animal is bitten,
00:11we should immediately get vaccinated, especially since the symptoms of rabies do not immediately show up.
00:16Danoting Cungco got it right.
00:20This is one of the last videos of 57-year-old Marky Torado before he died on March 3 because of rabies.
00:27Four months after he was bitten on the wrist of his 50-year-old aunt.
00:42He was vaccinated against rabies among his relatives.
00:45Nicole was vaccinated against rabies twice for her two-year-old son.
00:50The first was in April when her aunt was able to save her son's life.
00:58He didn't eat much at that time, so we were a bit worried.

01:20I became more aware of what was happening compared to waiting for my son to get rabies.
01:28According to the Department of Health, in 2024, 426 people got rabies.
01:33All of them were at home.
01:35Almost half of this number were bitten by a dog with rabies.
01:39From January to March, the DOH recorded 55 rabies cases.
01:44This is lower than 90 cases in the same year of 2024.
01:48According to the DOH, it is important to get vaccinated against rabies because it is deadly.
01:55The symptoms of rabies do not always show up.
01:59The first symptoms of rabies usually show up after two to three months from the day of exposure or bite.
02:08But it can also show up within a few weeks or last up to a year.
02:15Rabies is caused by the bite, itch, or scratch of an animal with rabies virus.
02:20The symptoms include fever, weakness, and bleeding.
02:24If it spreads, it can lead to phobia of water and air, confusion, and paralysis.
02:30If bitten, wash the wound immediately using soap and running water,
02:34and run to the nearest health center, emergency room, or animal bite center.
