Canada’s PM Mark Carney :
Canada’s new PM Mark Carney has torn into U.S. President Donald Trump over his shocking suggestion that Canada could become America’s 51st state. Calling the idea “crazy” and “absurd,” Carney made it clear that Canada will never be part of the U.S., drawing a sharp contrast between the two nations. Trump, known for his controversial statements on annexing Canada, Greenland, and even the Panama Canal, is reportedly furious over Carney’s blistering remarks. Canada’s PM Mark Carney

00:00Well, I've been clear, personally I've been clear, the ministers behind me, I think to
00:29an individual when asked have been clear that we will never, ever in any way, shape or form
00:36be part of the United States. America is not Canada. Look at the ceremony we just had.
00:42You could not have had that ceremony. You would not have that ceremony in America. Look
00:46at the cabinet behind me. You would not have that cabinet in America. You do not have that
00:50cabinet in America. We are a very fundamentally different country.
00:57So irrespective, irrespective of any issues economically, fundamentally to our core, to
01:03our identity, c'est une des raisons, is one reason why we have a minister, and I will
01:09thank Mr. Guilbault to be our minister of Canadian identity and culture and bringing
01:15in all those aspects and reinforcing them.
01:18You've talked about Trump needing to show Canada respect.
01:21President Trump.
01:22President Trump, yes. President Trump needing to show Canada respect. You said that again
01:25just now. Are you not going to speak with President Trump until he cuts out this 51st
01:31state talk?
01:32No. I look forward to speaking with President Trump, just to be clear. We respect the United
01:38States. We respect President Trump. President Trump is, has put some very important issues
01:45at the top of his agenda. We understand his agenda. We understand the importance of addressing
01:50the scourge of fentanyl, which is a challenge here in Canada as well as the United States.
01:55I would say that the measures that have been put in place in recent weeks in Canada, and
02:01Mexico, also the United States, means that we are making tremendous progress. I'll speak
02:05specifically against fentanyl.
02:07We understand the importance President Trump places on American workers and American jobs.
02:15We want him and his administration to understand the importance we put on Canadian workers
02:20and Canadian jobs. And we will look for avenues to work together so that both objectives are
02:28met in terms of both our great economies, just as we are doing, and the people behind
02:33me have led this, just as we are doing with respect to the scourge of fentanyl.
