00:00Lennie Martínez came of age yesterday with his first WorldTour victory, but it was a
00:05day of mixed emotions for Visma Lisabike.
00:08Jonas Vingegaard was visibly struggling after an early crash having hurt his hand, and he
00:13surrendered the yellow jersey back to his team-mate, Matteo Jorgensen.
00:18The big news this morning was that Vingegaard had decided to pull out of Paris-Nice to focus
00:23on his recovery.
00:24It's obviously a big blow for the Dutch squad, but as the defending champion explains, their
00:29ultimate goal at this race remains the same.
00:32He's an incredibly strong member of the team and he was second in the GC, so it changes
00:39our GC prospects of going 1-2, but for the rest, I think we still can go for the victory
00:48in Paris-Nice.
00:51Today should be one for the sprinters, and nobody's been able to live with Tim Moliere
00:55so far, although the weather conditions could hinder his hopes of a hat-trick.
00:59Did you have a good night, Tim?
01:01Well, I slept well, yes.
01:05And so you're ready for today, for another sprint?
01:08Hopefully it's a sprint, yes, there's some wind, some rain, it's cold, so special weather.
01:18I just focus on my own sprint and just try to be there, and I try to do my sprint, that's
01:25the most important thing for me.
01:27Well, the wind will certainly be an important factor today, especially in the latter part
01:32of the stage.
01:34We could have the first proper echelons of this edition, even if most riders would no
01:38doubt prefer a straightforward bunch sprint.
01:41Today, thankfully we have quite a lot of tower wind down the valley, but I think there's
01:45potential for some crosswind getting towards the final, so I think it could be a pretty
01:50spicy day.
01:51I think a little bit of rain too, and quite a lot of wind today, so it'll be interesting
01:56with a very technical final, so hopefully we all stay safe and we have a nice bunch
02:02sprint.
02:06At just over 209 kilometres, Stage 6 is the longest of Paris-Nice 2025, but perhaps not
02:12the most challenging on paper, only three minor climbs on the menu.
02:16However, the wind and the rain could change all that and cause a bit of chaos on the road
02:21to Berletin.
02:23The GC riders will have to be switched on from the moment the flag drops.
02:28Well, Michael Matthews was right on the money.
02:32This turned out to be a very spicy day indeed.
02:35When the live pictures began, there were riders all over the place.
02:39The Visma Lisa bike put the hammer down in the crosswinds and absolutely shredded the
02:43peloton.
02:46Remi Cavagna was the sole survivor of the day's breakaway, which had seen Thomas Gachignard
02:51become the virtual king of the mountains, but all the action was further back, with
02:55several top GC contenders finding themselves on the wrong side of the splits.
03:00Up at the front then, Matteo Jorgensen with his entire team, plus a host of big engines
03:05from the INEOS Grenadiers.
03:07Florian Lippovitz was there with a teammate, Matteo Sobrero, as was Matthias Stjelmoser
03:12with Mads Pedersen.
03:13UAE Team Emirates XRG, however, were caught out, with Joao Almeida and Brandon McNulty
03:19in the first chase group, while yesterday's stage winner, Lenny Martinez, was even further
03:23adrift, over three minutes down.
03:26The GC being completely turned on its head here, and Cavagna was soon caught because
03:30he had a job to do further back in the chase group, helping his Groupama FDJ team to limit
03:36the damage.
03:38Most of the peloton chasing desperately, but they weren't making any inroads into
03:42the gap.
03:43At the intermediate sprint, Jorgensen helped himself to six bonus seconds, four for Stjelmoser
03:49and two for Lippovitz.
03:51Those three were clearly the day's big winners on GC, although the INEOS trio of
03:55Aaronsman Foss and Sheffield were also set to leap up the standings.
03:59The victory would go to one of the 16 riders at the front, and on paper, Pedersen was the
04:04man to beat.
04:14At this point, the Almeida group were more than a minute and a half back, with the Martinez
04:18group at over six minutes.
04:21Heading into the final kilometre, Max Schachmann tried to go from distance, but they soon reeled
04:26him back in, Pedersen in a perfect position, with Tarling and Zingle on the wheel.
04:32Campenaerts is in the wheel, there is Zingle.
04:35Now they come round, there's Joshua Tarling, Pedersen is there, right, ready and waiting.
04:40Zingle in the yellow, watch out for him, he's looking for his first ever world tour victory.
04:45Can he try and deliver where a day that Matteo Jorgensen has benefited in gaining time in
04:50the general classification?
04:51This is a really hard, brutal kind of finish.
04:54Pedersen strikes, Pedersen tries to go for glory, Tarling's right in the wheel, Axel
04:59Zingle's boxed in, but he can't quite start to sprint.
05:02Sam Watson is trying to come forward, this has been a really early sprint for Pedersen.
05:06Pedersen's coming to the line, Tarling's trying to go for it, what a close finish.
05:11Pedersen takes it.
05:13Well, today was all about being in the right place at the right time, and those who weren't
05:20certainly paid the price.
05:22Mads Pedersen is one canny operator, though, and as well as giving his team-mate Matthias
05:27Schjelmose a boost in the GC, the day ensnatched his third win of the season so far, and the
05:33third of his career at Paris-Nice.
05:43After such a tough day like today, it's of course nice to win, you know, it would be
05:48a pity to be second or third, so it's super nice to get a victory home with the team and
05:54also Schjelmose moving up in GC, so for us this was a perfect day.
06:00Pedersen taking his 49th professional win ahead of the Ineos duo Tarling and Watson.
06:06The Almeida group came in at 1 minute 54, with Martinez almost nine minutes down.
06:12Jorgensen now leads Lipovic and Schjelmose by 40 and 59 seconds respectively, with Arendtman
06:18fourth at 1.20.
06:19Almeida slips to 2 minutes 40, after a day to forget for UAE.
06:24A day to remember for Pedersen, though, he always thrives in these tough conditions.
06:28He also snatched the green jersey from Melilla by a single point.
06:35Gachignol was rewarded for his efforts earlier in the day.
06:39The Frenchman will wear the polka dot jersey tomorrow by a point from Almeida, and it's
06:46still game on for the white jersey, with just 19 seconds separating the current holder
06:51Lipovic from Schjelmose.
06:58Due to adverse weather conditions, tomorrow's seventh stage has been shortened to 109 kilometres
07:03and no longer features the Cote de Belvedere or the Col de la Colmiane, but we still have
07:08a summit finish to Oran to look forward to with plenty more GC action.
07:12Join us for that on Saturday, and thanks for watching.
