00:00It is hockey talk time, it is Andrew Razor Raycroft time, he joins us each and every
00:06week and he is brought to you by John Sewart and Drain Cleaning, the name to know when
00:11drains don't flow.
00:12Razor, how are we doing a week removed from all hells breaking loose last Friday?
00:18Yeah, it feels like two months ago.
00:20I'm up in Canada right now, so I'm visiting the parents and I just realized that we hadn't
00:27talked since then.
00:28Yeah, no, it's amazing how time flies and yeah, what a crazy week last week.
00:33Okay, so our producers put a little something together for you, so listen to this and then
00:38we'll get your opinion on the other side.
00:40When you have a guy who's a hall of famer, your captain just doesn't typically get traded.
00:51It would be the biggest story, biggest trade since Wayne Gretzky being traded 35 years
00:57ago.
00:58So, am I leaning that way?
00:59No, I'm certainly not, but like you just said, it is wonderful news for anyone who wants
01:05to get a click.
01:07It's false.
01:08No way.
01:09Not this time.
01:10So, Razor, how did we get to the point last Friday where Brad Marsham was traded to the
01:13Florida Panthers of all teams?
01:16Yeah, no, it's, you know, there was a lot going on.
01:22There was a lot going on and I'm sure, you know, I'm sure maybe sometime it might come
01:28out, but definitely an interesting setup, definitely an interesting story and I think
01:36at the end of the day, Brad ended up in a place where he thinks he can win a Stanley
01:42Cup and the team ended up getting a draft pick in a situation where they weren't sure
01:48they were going to get one.
01:50So Razor, one of the things that I think may be spurring the Bruins on now, it's a smaller
01:55sample size.
01:56They've only played two games since he was dealt last Friday, but they have played pretty
02:02well.
02:03Those are against two really good teams in Florida and it feels like to me that maybe
02:08the combination of the Paul or the specter of Brad Marsham's trade combined with everyone
02:15saying, ah, the Bruins are toast, they're done for the year.
02:19That has added up to them playing two games with their hair or their sticks on fire and
02:23I feel like maybe, just maybe, they have a chance here to turn some heads and show everybody
02:29that they're not quite dead yet over this upcoming stretch to end the season.
02:34Yeah, listen, the entire season and the game before the break where the stick breaks from
02:41the door.
02:42I mean, they played an unbelievable game down in Carolina and again, Brad's been out of
02:46the lineup, Charlie McEvoy, these guys have all been out of the lineup here for a couple
02:50weeks now and they continue to work and they continue to push and they've done a really
02:56good job showing some big guts and you have to appreciate that and love that from that
03:03group out there and certainly the crazier things have happened in this game and to be
03:07able to go on a run and like you said, they beat two pretty good teams and if they can
03:12beat another couple more good teams here over the next couple of days before they go on
03:15the road, never say never.
03:18Razor, you know, when Brad's moved, you know, traded and you think, okay, where's the leadership
03:24going to come from now?
03:25It's natural to think, you know, Pasta and obviously McEvoy when he comes back from his
03:30injury, but Pasta's been playing, you know, outstanding, I mean, he had a beautiful assist,
03:35I believe it was him that had the assist on a game winner against Florida the other
03:39night.
03:40And, you know, and just, I heard Judge Surratt say that when he talked to him that Pasta
03:45said to him, hey, we're going guns blazing, don't forget about us now just because we
03:51let a lot of these guys go.
03:53Just what your thoughts are about Pasta filling that leadership void and just his overall
03:57play this year, Razor?
03:59Oh, he's been incredible.
04:01Absolutely incredible.
04:02Last season, this season, what he's done on the ice, his growth off of the ice, leading
04:08this team, being a guy that is responsible for communicating after every single game,
04:14he's at his locker, he's the one that the press are talking to the most.
04:20And it's been, he's a top five player in the world and that's what he is.
04:27And he's proven that over the last couple of years, again, how much of his growth has
04:34come.
04:35And he's literally got this team on his back.
04:37He does.
04:38He's so influential and so good.
04:41And I know at times, you know, there's a way of looking at him in the Boston area, but
04:47league wide, worldwide, the text messages that I get after a Bruins game on a nightly
04:51basis of how great 88 is, um, is, is a testament to, to his game and just how good he is.
04:59Nesson's Andrew Raycroft joining us here on WEI afternoons, uh, Razor, I get a circle
05:04back around.
05:05Cause I had this, if there was going to be a Marcian trade, you know, I had this dream
05:09alive that maybe he returns as a free agent.
05:12You got an extra draft pick out of it.
05:13Who knows?
05:14Maybe you've got a little bump post trade like they're getting.
05:16Is that, I heard, I heard Marcian talk about it.
05:20I heard Sweeney not, you know, never say never.
05:23Do you think that door is still open for him to return and free agency?
05:27Yeah, it could be, it could be for sure.
05:31Um, you know, I, I think there's a lot to, to unpackage and, and there'll be a lot once
05:36the season ends and, and who knows in Brad's and, you know, especially where Brad's sitting
05:41right now.
05:42And again, hopefully the Bruins go on a run still too, and McAvoy can come back and they
05:46can push, but, but where, you know, the Florida Panthers.
05:50They expect to go a long ways too.
05:51So there might not be a whole lot of time to really think about it once the season ends,
05:56but, but yeah, certainly there's, um, you know, um, yeah, you know, I, I, I'm not, I,
06:04you know, I'm not an insider.
06:05I'm not going to like spill everything, you know, but, but yeah, certainly I think there's
06:08an opportunity, um, for them to come back to the table if, if the summer goes a certain
06:14way.
06:15Sure.
06:16All right.
06:17Well, I'm with the Bruins, Andrew Raycroft here in WEI Afternoons.
06:18And I gotta say, uh, I'm pretty excited about the game tonight and don't, how do you feel
06:23about the way Swainman has played the last couple of games?
06:26And do you think it could be as simple as, well, if they want to go on a run, win more
06:30games than they lose and press, you know, starting tonight playing against Kachuk, uh,
06:35and the senators, then it has to start with a hot goalie.
06:40Uh, obviously it looks like he's played a little bit better.
06:42Is that him playing better?
06:44The defense in front of him or a combination of the two?
06:46Well, he was great in Tampa.
06:48Uh, he was great.
06:50A couple of huge saves, uh, you know, the paddle save, obviously, but, but he, he was
06:54able to keep them afloat in Tampa.
06:56I think the team played an unbelievable game in Florida.
06:59You know, there weren't, uh, there weren't a lot of odd man opportunities.
07:03The chemist, the penalty kills did a great job.
07:05So Swainman was very solid, but, but far from had to, to really get one, uh, feels like
07:11tonight in Ottawa.
07:12You know, they're a very offensive team.
07:15They're very good on home ice.
07:16Their power play is great.
07:17Uh, he feels like if they are going to win tonight, they're going to have to be a low
07:21scoring game, which means Swainman is going to have to keep a good offensive team off
07:25the board.
07:26Hey, Razor, what do you think of some of the new guys, uh, that the, uh, that the bees,
07:31uh, got back, you know, uh, Lauco, you know, come back.
07:34I always liked him.
07:35I wish he had never left, but, uh, you know, some of the, some of the new guys that they,
07:39they picked up in these, uh, middle stat, uh, another one, uh, had, I think had a nice
07:44assist in, uh, in the game against the Panthers.
07:46Just your thoughts on, on those guys.
07:48No, they, they, they're, they're younger legs there.
07:53They have a little bit more speed, a little bit more pace in the case of middle stat.
07:58He's certainly more offensive minded than what Charlie Coyle was or two different kind
08:03of centermen.
08:04Um, of course we know what Charlie did and how great he was for this Boston Bruin team,
08:09especially when he came over in 19, uh, he was a huge part of them getting to game seven.
08:13Um, but he's a 200 foot guy, very responsible middle stats a little bit is a lot more offensively
08:19minded.
08:20Um, he, he's on the power play right away.
08:23He's going to be a driver for that power play the rest of the season, along with David Pasternak.
08:29So, so it, it, it adds a bit of a different vibe.
08:31And again, you get new, new faces, new personalities in the room.
08:36Um, it changes the energy and, and, and in pro sports, sometimes you just need a little
08:41bit of energy changed and, and, uh, and you can go on a run.
08:44So they, they've changed the makeup just enough.
08:47Of course, the core guys are the core guys, but I think they've got a little bit quicker
08:51and a little bit more offensive minded here over the last six days.
08:54Razor to steal your own words from the Nessun alternate broadcast.
08:58Uh, did that just happen was a phrase that could describe two Zdorov moments from the
09:03last week or so.
09:04One was negative, the broken stick, the loss, and then the, uh, the right hook to Sam Bennett
09:10that dropped him like a sack of potatoes.
09:12Uh, can that be, can that be something that changes things for Zdorov?
09:16Cause I think he has been sort of one of the, uh, lightning rods for criticism of the offseason
09:21of the team.
09:22Oh, you got bigger, but you got, you didn't get better and he's overpaid.
09:26Is he a guy that you think can still turn a corner and, and be a success in what the
09:30role was envisioned for him here?
09:33Yeah, certainly he's done that.
09:34I think over the last month or at least out of four nations, of course, taking on a, he's,
09:40he's, he's essentially number one defenseman that that's not why he was signed or what
09:45his real role is when everybody's healthy and everybody in a good place.
09:51But, but certainly he's a, he's a guy who's an NHL defense and he's an older guy who played
09:55a bunch of playoff games, big, he's strong, he's physical.
09:59And again, with if Lindholm and McEvoy are in the lineup every night, he slots in a great
10:03spot.
10:04And I think we'll continue to get more comfortable anytime you get, get, you know, you sign one
10:08of these huge deals, a big deal, he's not like a, he's not a huge superstar master,
10:16you know, master deal.
10:18You know, he's going to be more than, he's going to be about an average paid guy at the
10:23end of this deal.
10:24And, and he's going to be a big part of this team going forward because of the physicality
10:28he can bring and come playoff time, that, that stuff really pays off.
10:32Obviously, it was a very emotional week last March on related thing, uh, razor, uh, emotional
10:37week, those, the speeches that he gave were long and it was difficult for a lot of fans,
10:42uh, to see one of their favorites go, but you know, that's the last bastion of the championship
10:48days gone by.
10:49Do you, do you agree on, was it on the, do you think it was on the money difference?
10:53So, you know, cause I, there was that report from spit and chicklets that Marshy was asking
10:57for a seven and a half Bruins wanted to give like six or six, three.
11:01And then there was talk of, you know, meeting in the middle.
11:03I know you said you're not, you know, an insider and didn't have contractual details, but do
11:07you think it could have gotten down to something that simple between a legendary player and
11:11ownership?
11:12Yeah, I don't know.
11:14I don't know.
11:15Um, you know, I, I think that, you know, um, maybe, uh, maybe not, maybe, maybe it was
11:22just a way, you know, how, how the week went and it got down to the last minute, you make
11:27a quick decision.
11:28Um, you know, I don't know.
11:31Razor does the winning streak continue tonight?
11:33Uh, it's a tough one.
11:36So this is by far tougher than the Tampa game or the Florida game at home.
11:42Um, Ottawa's cooking there, there, they are fighting for their lives, unlike Tampa and
11:47unlike Florida.
11:48So it's a little bit of a different spot.
11:49Uh, like we talked about, so I'm going to have to have an unbelievable game.
11:53They're going to have to be pretty flawless discipline wise and really hold their structure
11:57against this team.
11:58Um, but, but sure.
11:59Why?
12:00You know, I, I'm not betting against them, uh, but tonight's the toughest game for them,
12:06but before they go out west, you must've heard scowl yesterday when he told us the Celtics
12:11were going to blow out the thunder and then had to eat some crow when the thunder, uh,
12:14took full advantage of the Celtics on their home floor.
12:16So I understand the hesitancy, but, uh, we're all rooting for it because we, we would love
12:21a little run here.
12:22That would be a fun little run here.
12:23I don't even know if it's possible to make up the ground they need to with the teams
12:26that are in front of them.
12:27Anything is possible.
12:28Anything is possible.
12:29But it would be fun.
12:30Razor.
12:31It would be, it'd be nice to get a win tonight and really close out the homestand with a
12:35couple of good victories and rattle five in a row off, get back in the mix and get people
12:40excited for sure.
12:41It's, it's, it's anything's possible in, in, in the NHL.
12:45It's been a crazy season.
12:47That's what we want to hear.
12:48Well, here's to hoping that when we talk to you next week, they're still on a winning
12:50streak.
12:51That's all we can ask for is one week at a time, one game at a time.
12:53He's Andrew razor Raycroft.
12:54We appreciate you joining us today as you do each and every Thursday at four 30.
12:58So I have a good week.
12:59We'll talk to you next week.
13:00Thanks.
13:01Razor.
13:02All right.
13:03See it.
13:04Razor.
13:05I thought took it very well.
13:06Stiz was a bit of a bully putting together those audio with this.
13:09Have you noticed the theme to this show?
13:11We started the show audio used against us.
13:14Oh, I thought it was great.
13:16And we continue to have audio used against people and listen at the end of the day, we're
13:20having fun.
13:21We love our, we love our pal.
13:23We love our pal Raycroft.
13:25Just a little accountability.
13:26A little fun.
13:27That was coming.
13:28They had to know that.
13:29Oh yeah.
13:30We're just, you know, just barbing and jiving.
13:31You know, it's just busting Dan balls here, right?
13:33We're just busting skates.
13:34The revenge of the producers today.
13:36Just busting pucks.
13:37Yeah.
13:38You guys are having a day back there.
13:39It's easy to produce that when you're at, you hide behind that big thick glass.
13:42Oh, I'll come right in there.
13:43Teddy.
13:44Jack.
