00:00The big winner from this Greenlandic election is the Democratic Party, a centre-right party
00:05which saw a 20% swing in terms of votes. They now have about 30% of the vote. The coalition will be
00:13led by this party and a new leader to be Prime Minister, 33-year-old Jens Fredrik Nielsen,
00:20a former badminton player, and it's unusual and unexpected for such a change. The second
00:26biggest party is NALERAK, the pro-nationalist party who wants a referendum quickly to break
00:34away from Denmark. They also want closer ties with the United States, and of course the Trump
00:39factor has played a big part here. Now the Democratic Party wants independence but does
00:46not want to do it quickly because it fears the impact on the welfare state here and also on
00:52business. The IA party, the Inuit party and the Suwamit party, they're out of government,
00:58they lost badly, they still have some members of parliament, but this is a big change for Greenland
01:04because of outside affairs and also what happens internally here with rare earth minerals and the
01:11economy in future.
