00:00Earlier, you had criticism of the President's operations,
00:04he says the blockers promote at least 100% of all of his votes.
00:08Do you have the same criticism of the Republicans?
00:12You might be opposed to this in the new Congress.
00:14How much of a filibuster is this?
00:16You're talking about the CR, the CR.
00:18Well, I think we've, as we've done our head count,
00:22I think we feel very comfortable that we need to deliver a majority vote for this.
00:26The question is, can we get the 60 vote super majority threshold that's necessary to pass it?
00:30And in order to do that, we need to get our preference count.
00:32So, we will have our conference on board in support of keeping the government open
00:38and finishing off what is last year's business,
00:43which is a junction with the Democrats and the Senate at the time,
00:47not taking a single appropriations bill, putting it on the floor, and moving it forward.
00:51This is a pilot from last year, this is FY25.
00:54We want to get it into rearview mirror, and we think the best way to do that,
00:58right now at least, based on what the House is going to do today,
01:01and what the President supports, is to pass this CR.
01:04The question is, will the Democrats filibuster?
01:07And we'll find out soon enough.
01:09And I was going to say, on that point, Mr. Leader,
01:11have you gotten any indication that Democrats will join you?
01:15And if they don't, are you willing to consider this alternate CR
01:19that Congressional operators have put forward to an extent that would not be great?
01:24I think the problem you've got with what a temporary CR does
01:29is it continues to haunt the problem down the road.
01:32Pretty soon you run up against April 30th deadline in which a sequester will take place,
01:37which will be a terrible outcome, particularly for defense.
01:40And it's a totally avoidable outcome if we will simply take action to do this today or this week.
01:48My view is that the best way to fund the government
01:51and to deal with last year's business so we can move on to this year's business
01:56is to fund this year, vote for this CR,
01:59and I'm hoping that we'll have a record number of Democrats in order to do that.
02:03And I think anything else they put out there is a smokescreen,
02:06because at this point there's really one solution on the table.
02:09It keeps the government funded, it addresses the core issues I think a lot of Democrats care about
02:14in terms of programs that they want to have funded through the end of the year,
02:17and that's why we think it represents the best solution at the moment.
