00:00So today we've released a report into the clinical practice Mr Shah one of our
00:04orthopaedic consultants who worked at the Trust in 2019 up until November 22
00:11when he was dismissed. I want to unreservedly apologize to the 91
00:17patients who did not deliver the care that we should have given them and
00:22resulted in some harm. I also want to recognize the efforts and input that
00:28each one of those families have put into our review both with our independent
00:33partners but also as part of our internal investigation because we
00:37recognize that they would have come to that would have been distressing for
00:40them not just in their post-surgery but also in actually reliving some of those
00:45experiences to be able to share them with us. It's really important with these
00:49reports that we learn from them and we put in new practices new governance
00:55arrangements to make sure this doesn't happen again but I also want to
00:58recognize that it's important not just to listen to our patients but also to
01:03our staff so it's important that we listen to them and their concerns when
01:07they're raised. Paul Jenkins Express and Star.com we're
01:12outside Walsall Manor Hospital and if you can just introduce yourself please.
01:16Yeah my name is Dr Jonathan Oden and I'm the group chief medical officer
01:21between Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust and Wolverhampton Healthcare Trust.
01:26The reporting to the surgeon has been published today just a little bit of your
01:31thoughts on the outcome and what you'd say to the patients who are affected
01:35please. Well I'd first of all like to send my heartfelt apologies to all those
01:40patients who have suffered any harm as a result of the treatment and surgery
01:45that's been undertaken by Mr Shah. We've reviewed the cases in detail and we are
01:52putting in place now a process to ensure or have put in place a process to ensure
01:57that all doctors who are undertaking procedures and surgery are fully
02:01competent and trained to undertake those procedures so we should not be in the
02:05same position of having patients harmed by surgeons who are not trained for the
02:10work that they are doing.
