A total of 514,105 housewives registered for the Housewives Social Security Scheme (SKSSR) last year, exceeding the Human Resources Minister's target by more than double.

Despite this, committee chairperson Kasthuri Patto said many housewives have yet to register through family members or workplaces where they are employed and urged the corporate sector to step forward.

She highlighted that under Section 44(6) of the Income Tax Act 1967, companies that voluntarily sponsor contributions for housewives are eligible for tax reliefs.

00:00Please have a seat.
00:04You may proceed.
00:08Since it was passed in Parliament in December 2022,
00:11in more than two years,
00:13a total of 1,308 households have received benefits
00:18through the amount of interest payments of 4.2 million ringgit.
00:23This is equivalent to the number of registrations of 514,105 households last year,
00:30while reaching a target of more than 100%
00:34set by the Honourable Minister of Human Resources, Stephen Sim.
00:38With this protection,
00:40households that previously did not have a financial security network
00:44are now getting better benefits
00:46in dealing with emergency situations such as accidents,
00:49loss of income as a result of an injury or a serious illness.
00:53The success of this programme proves the importance of continuous support
00:57from the government, the corporate sector
01:00and the people in strengthening the national social protection system.
01:04Therefore, we have a media campaign to encourage more companies
01:08to use this opportunity to enjoy a pay rise
01:13when they hire their female employees.
01:18The Ministry of Labour has also collaborated with Perkeso
01:26and other companies,
01:28i.e. companies' staff who want to hire their wives
01:33and JTK allows them to cut their salary by RM10 per month
01:38if they are paid by the company in advance.
01:44The SKSSR scheme is RM120 per year,
01:50but it is an upfront payment.
01:52You pay first so you can enjoy the benefit.
01:55At the same time, we encourage housewives
01:59to save RM10 per month if they are sponsored by the company.
02:06If the period is one year,
02:10they will have RM120 to continue the scheme.
02:16This is our concern as well.
02:18The continuity of the coverage.
02:22We understand that RM120 is a lot of money for housewives.
02:28It can be used for grocery shopping, marketing,
02:34it pays your bills, it's petrol money.
02:37That's why we ask for companies and government agencies
02:43to contact government agencies and ministries
02:49where their B40 staff,
02:52such as cleaners,
02:55can use this opportunity to hire their female employees
03:01to enjoy a pay rise.
03:03For those who haven't been hired yet,
03:06we hope you can hire here.
03:08It's made very easy.
03:10There's a QR code that you can scan.
03:12You can also contribute and hire for yourself.
03:15I've already hired for myself last year
03:19and I got a notification this year
03:21that my due date is coming near,
03:23so I have to prepare another RM120
03:25to continue my hiring for myself.
03:28I hope if you have not done it,
03:30you can do it for yourself.
03:32For all the men here,
03:33you can also do it for your female family members.
03:36You can charge for them also.
03:38We know we just celebrated International Women's Day.
03:41There's still a big debate
03:43about the role and function of housewives
03:46who do an unquantifiable job.
03:5124 hours, 7 days a week,
03:54no ER, no emergency leave, no MC.
03:58This is a token of appreciation by the government,
04:01particularly through Perkeso,
04:03to provide social security for housewives.
