00:00U.S. intelligence chief Tulsi Gawad is to visit India.
00:04I'm going straight across to my colleague Shashank Mattu for more details on that.
00:09Shashank, I understand that she will be on a multi-nation tour,
00:13and this is significant because it comes as the first visit by a top White House official to India
00:20under the Trump administration, isn't it, Shashank?
00:23Yes, it is. In fact, it is.
00:24And as Tulsi Gawad is Director of National Intelligence,
00:27she's really the chief of the world's most powerful intelligence agency,
00:30so it's an important visit.
00:32She's also going to be going to Thailand, Japan, also coming to India, then going to France.
00:37But she's really going to be here to speak at the Rajasthan conference.
00:40She's going to be also involved in a meeting of security chiefs and intelligence chiefs
00:45from all over the world, and is going to first meet in India.
00:48From what we're hearing right now, the focus of this meeting between Tulsi Gawad
00:53as well as a bunch of other Indian security officials is going to be on counter-terrorism,
00:57cyber security, artificial intelligence, and intelligence sharing.
01:01Really, the purpose of the visit is for her to establish a strong cooperative relationship
01:05with Indian security officials, given just how much intelligence sharing happens
01:09between India and America, especially on the very, very key issue of China.
01:14It's an immense interest to America that that relationship with India
01:17and intelligence sharing on China continues.
01:18So Tulsi Gawad is going to come here and make sure that those strong relationships
01:22on intelligence remain strong.
01:23You know, also, it's a multi-city tour, I understand.
01:27Just, you know, just tell us a little more about that.
01:30I mean, we're all multi-nation tour, I beg your pardon.
01:33So what, where else will she be apart from India?
01:36And what is going to be on top of the priority list as far as the visit to India is concerned?
01:42So she's going to be, right now she is in Hawaii.
01:45She's meeting with the top Pacific command leadership of the American military.
01:49She's going to Japan.
01:50She's going to Thailand.
01:51She's going to India.
01:52And then, of course, from here, she's going to go to France and then back to the United States.
01:56Really, as I said, the key issues are going to be artificial intelligence,
02:00cyber security, and making sure that there is a strong cooperation on counterterrorism
02:05as well as intelligence sharing.
02:07Like I said, China is something that India and America have collaborated on
02:10on an intelligence perspective really for decades.
02:12And Tulsi Gawad's work is going to be to make sure that she can keep those relationships strong.
02:18There's also been some speculation, at least in the American media,
02:21that at the Raisena conference, she may consider meeting the Russian security officials
02:26who happen to be in Raisena.
02:28They do attend the conference.
02:30But this is, of course, not in any way confirmed.
02:32But it has been speculated heavily in the American media.
02:35But as far as the India-America relationship goes,
02:37cyber security, artificial intelligence, counterterrorism, and intelligence sharing,
02:41those are the four key things that Tulsi Gawad wants to make sure that India and America remain strong on.
02:45All right. I'm going to, in fact, ask you to be with us, Shashank.
