00:00A trade request early during Super Bowl week, Miles Garrett, the 2023 defensive player of
00:07the year, one of the most feared defenders in all of the NFL, requested a trade out of
00:12Cleveland.
00:13I can't win here.
00:14This Browns team is in once again in the rebuild.
00:17I want to contend for Super Bowls to finish out my career.
00:22And the Browns said, we're not so sure.
00:25And Miles Garrett said, if you don't trade me, I'm not paying or playing.
00:29I don't care how much money I miss.
00:32The Browns then said, how about $40 million per year?
00:35Miles Garrett said, what?
00:36All right.
00:37I'm back in Cleveland, man.
00:38Let's have a reunion.
00:39A $40 million per year extension, four year, $160 million deal, 123 and a half mil, fully
00:48guaranteed.
00:49The highest paid non quarterback ever in the history of the National Football League was
00:55once Justin Jefferson.
00:57Just a week ago, it was Max Crosby, and now it is Miles Garrett sacrificing a chance to
01:03contend for a Super Bowl for $40 million per year.
01:07One of the worst owners in professional sports, Jimmy Haslam and the Cleveland Browns just
01:11bungle every single decision that they could possibly make.
01:14But let's get into it because there's a couple layers to this.
01:16And the interesting part was like Miles Garrett saying, look, I made a lot of money already.
01:20I played for Cleveland.
01:21We are a horrible franchise with no quarterback and no direction.
01:24It's not about money.
01:25I just went out.
01:27Let's see where he can go.
01:28And then we see that the owner goes, you know what?
01:31My player, star player wants to meet with me.
01:33Maybe he can mend some fences here.
01:34I'm not going to meet with you at all.
01:36It harkens back to the Indianapolis Colts.
01:38You remember Jim Irsa was like, Jonathan Taylor wants a new contract.
01:41I don't care if he sits the rest of his career.
01:42I'm never paying that guy.
01:43And like 24 hours later, it's like, man, this guy's the best running back I've ever seen
01:46in my life.
01:47He's a high paying deal.
01:48This doesn't make any sense on the direction of a franchise based on what you just said.
01:51Now, understand this.
01:53This isn't me coming after Miles Garrett.
01:55He's probably the best pass rusher in the NFL.
01:57Let's just say here's what happened instead.
01:59Miles Garrett said, I will not play for the Cleveland Browns.
02:03Two first round draft picks are traded and he goes to the Buffalo Bills and gets that
02:07same exact extension from the Bills.
02:09Standing ovation from these sitting here going like unbelievable move for the Browns, unbelievably
02:14good move for the Buffalo Bills because why?
02:17The Bills think they can win a championship and he's the missing piece.
02:20Now understand this.
02:22The Cleveland Browns, you are going absolutely nowhere until the Sean Watson's contract is
02:27completely clear.
02:28And in the NFL, once you start to hit 30 years old, you are no longer in your prime as an
02:33NFL player outside of the quarterback position.
02:36That's just a fact.
02:37Can he be a serviceable player in two to three years?
02:39Absolutely.
02:40Might he be the best player in football once again next year?
02:42Cleveland, you're not making the playoffs next year.
02:45And here's where you can trace that with the Seattle Seahawks.
02:47They won 10 games last year and their ownership group said, you know what?
02:51You know, I don't think we can win a championship with this team.
02:54Is that what it's about?
02:55Like signing Myles Garrett to quarterback money to win you five games a season?
02:59Like what is the point of that?
03:01You are best off just saying until Watson's contract is completely clear, let's tear this
03:05thing down.
03:06Let's get multiple first rounders and maybe next two to three years we'll get Arch Manning
03:10as our quarterback.
03:11We'll rebuild this thing and we'll be a proud franchise for our Cleveland fans.
03:15I'm sure Cleveland fans that have Myles Garrett jerseys and love Myles Garrett and there's
03:18a lot of them out there that do.
03:19But understand this, you didn't help your football team by signing the best overall
03:23defensive end.
03:24Why?
03:25Because you're not winning anything.
03:26Isn't that the point of professional sports?
03:28You're either building to win something or you're going backwards to make sure in a few
03:31years you can then build to win something here.
03:34One of the worst contract signings I've ever seen for a single sports franchise is Myles
03:39Garrett.
03:40And it's not Myles Garrett's fault.
