00:00A pioneering new fund for Lancashire, a familiar sponsor for Liverpool Football Club, a nightclub
00:06gets turned into housing for veterans, and some exciting news on Made in the North West.
00:12That's what's coming up in today's Daily Business Briefing.
00:15Hi, I'm Simon Keegan.
00:22And I'm Robin Hewson.
00:23So, Robin, first of all, some Lancashire news.
00:26I believe there's quite an exciting new fund over there.
00:29Yeah, there is.
00:30So it's an angel investment initiative funded angels that's being launched by Lancashire
00:33County Council.
00:34So it's thought to be the UK's first angel network of this scale to be led by a local
00:39authority.
00:40So that's quite interesting.
00:41And it should be a really nice way to kind of encourage startups and scale ups across
00:45Lancashire to take on funding and really grow.
00:47So nice, nice news for the county.
00:50Well, hopefully we'll see some of that in our Lancashire ones to watch.
00:53Yeah, exactly.
00:54So the idea is that it's going to attract Lancashire angel investors who are already
00:59kind of committed to the region and want to encourage the business landscape there.
01:04And then they're going to invest into exciting local companies.
01:08Fantastic.
01:09Well, the insider cover stars of tomorrow, maybe.
01:11Well, sticking with the North West, I'm going to head over to Liverpool now because we've
01:16got news of a new kit sponsor for Liverpool.
01:21So obviously, it's big business, isn't it?
01:24So they're not just sponsoring the football kit, but it's going to be for the women's
01:28team, for the academy, for all of the various fashion things.
01:31And it's Adidas.
01:34Now what's exciting about that is Adidas were previously a sponsor of Liverpool in some
01:40of the most successful seasons.
01:43So 1985 to 96 and 2006 to 2012, Adidas sponsored Liverpool and they did all right.
01:53So maybe they'll be like a good omen for them.
01:58I'm not going to say much else because you know my football knowledge is somewhat limited.
02:03Yeah, that is pretty true.
02:05Who do you support?
02:06Sheffield United.
02:07Sheffield United.
02:08Are they good?
02:09I'd say they're average.
02:11Right.
02:12Amazing.
02:13What other news have you got for us, Robyn?
02:14So exciting news from Wales, a vacant former nightclub is set to be transformed into housing
02:19for veterans.
02:21So Raffles used to be a nightclub over in Llanelli.
02:25So that's in southwest Wales and it's been shut for a number of years, been empty for
02:30more than 20 years actually, and it's owned by the council.
02:33So Helping Homeless Veterans UK have now lodged an application to transform the unused building
02:38into housing for veterans.
02:40So it's going to provide 16 self-contained one bedroom flats for veterans, as well as
02:45a hub and communal space on the ground floor.
02:47That's going to provide support for veterans in the form of rehabilitation, counselling
02:51and employment training.
02:52So really nice scheme.
02:53Oh, that's really nice and good effort on the pronunciation as well.
02:57Thanks, I really tried.
02:58I don't think I'd have got through that.
03:01So some exciting news again from the northwest.
03:05This is the Made in the Northwest Manufacturing Awards.
03:09The awards dinner itself takes place on May the 22nd.
03:13It's going to be in Hotel Football.
03:16Football theme today.
03:17That's my football.
03:18Yeah.
03:19But we're extending the deadline for entries to March the 21st.
03:23So still got time for people to get their entries in.
03:27Now, just one thing I want to say about this is people might think, well, we're not big
03:31enough.
03:32We can't be the manufacturer of the year because there's all these giant companies in the northwest.
03:36But there are categories for startups.
03:40There's categories for innovation and there's particular sector ones as well.
03:45There's food and drink.
03:46There's automotive.
03:48There's medical and life sciences, sustainable.
03:51So there really is an opportunity for everybody to get involved in that, in the manufacturing
03:57sector.
03:58So look out for more details on that event and how to enter.
04:03With any of these stories, people can look on insidermedia.com and they can give us a
04:09follow on LinkedIn as well, can't they?
04:12Yeah.
04:13See you next time.
04:16Bye.
