00:00There's someone who's trying to weaken our economy, Donald Trump, Donald Trump,
00:11and Donald Trump, as we know, has put, as the Prime Minister just said, unjustified
00:18tariffs on what we build, on what we sell, on how we make a living. He's attacking
00:27Canadian families, workers, and businesses, and we cannot let him succeed, and we won't.
00:39I am proud, I am proud of the response of Canadians who are making their voices heard
00:45and their wallets felt. I am grateful for how our provinces are stepping up to the fight
00:54because when we are united, we are Canada Strong.
01:07The Canadian government has rightly retaliated and is rightly retaliating with our own tariffs
01:15that will have maximum impact in the United States and minimum impact here in Canada.
01:22My government will keep our tariffs on until the Americans show us respect.
01:43And until they can join us in making credible and reliable commitments to free and fair trade.
01:52As Christa did. And in the meantime, we will ensure that all the proceeds, all the proceeds
02:00from our tariffs will be used to protect our workers.
02:09The Americans want our resources, our water, our land, our country.
02:16Think about it. If they, if they succeeded, they would destroy our way of life.
02:25In America, health care is a big business. In Canada, it is a right.
02:45America. America is a melting pot. Canada is a mosaic.
02:58America is not Canada. And Canada never, ever will be part of America in any way, shape or form.
03:08Look, we didn't ask for this fight. We didn't ask for this fight.
03:26The Canadians are always ready when someone else drops the gloves.
03:32So the Americans, they should make no mistake, in trade as in hockey, Canada will win.
03:43Donald Trump is trying to weaken our economy. But there's someone else who, if he succeeds, will weaken our economy.
03:55It's Pierre Poliev. Pierre Poliev just doesn't get it.
04:05He is the type of lifelong politician, and I've seen this type around the world,
04:11a lifelong politician who worships at the altar of the free market, despite never having made a payroll himself.
04:24And now, and now in the face of President Trump's threats, Pierre Poliev still, still refuses to get his security clearance.
04:39At a time when our national security is under threat and has never been before.
04:46At a time of immense economic insecurity, he would undermine the Bank of Canada.
04:54Pierre Poliev would let our planet burn.
05:03This is not leadership. It's ideology. It's ideology that betrays what we as Canadians value, each other.
05:13It's an ideology that also represents a fundamental misunderstanding of how the economy works.
05:21Now, unlike Pierre Poliev, I've actually worked in the private sector.
05:26I know, I know, I know, I know how the world works, and I know how it can be made to work better for all of us.
05:37And that, and that knowledge, that knowledge is especially useful now in the service of Canadians when we must build a new economy and create new trading relationships.
05:58Let me tell you something else that we know that Pierre Poliev doesn't.
06:04We know that markets don't have values. People do.
06:10And we know, we know as Liberals that it's our job, our job to make markets, to make the economy work for all Canadians.
06:21These are the most powerful tool we've ever invented. They can find solutions to our greatest problems.
06:29And when the private sector, when the markets are governed well, they deliver great jobs and stronger growth faster than anything.
06:37But markets are also indifferent to human suffering, and they are blind to our greatest needs.
06:45So when they're not governed well, or not at all, they will deliver enormous wealth for the lucky few and hard times for the rest.
06:59And in this crisis, in this crisis, we must help those who are hit hardest by the American tariffs while we build our strength here at home.
07:13That's the right thing to do. That's the fair thing to do. That is the Canadian thing to do. That is what makes us strong.
07:29So Donald Trump thinks, thinks he can weaken us with his plan to divide and conquer.
07:41Pierre Poliev's plan will leave us divided and ready to be conquered.
07:48Because a person who worships at the altar of Donald Trump will kneel before him, not stand up to him.
07:58Pierre Poliev's slogans are not solutions. His anger is in action. His division is in strength.
08:16Division won't win a trade war. Division won't pay the rent or the mortgage.
08:22Division won't bring down the price of groceries. Division won't make Canada strong.
08:30I've learned a few things from long experience in crises. And the first is that plan beats no plan.
08:39And you need to distinguish what you can change from what you can't.
08:45We can't change Donald Trump. Can't change him.
08:51And because we're masters in our own home, we can control our economic destiny with a plan that puts more money in your pockets.
09:00A plan that will ensure your government spends less so Canada can invest more.
09:06A plan, a plan, a plan that builds millions of homes.
09:13A plan that makes us an energy superpower in both clean and conventional energy.
09:20A plan that creates new trade corridors with reliable partners.
09:28A plan that creates one Canadian economy, not 13.
09:34Because in Canada, we are stronger when we're united.
09:39We can give ourselves far, far more than Donald Trump can ever take away.
09:47But it will, it will take extraordinary efforts. It won't be business as usual.
09:59We will have to do things we haven't imagined before at speeds we didn't think possible.
10:05We will do it. We will do it for the common good so that everyone, everyone benefits.
10:13You know, I do care about the economy. But it's not because I'm an economist.
10:26It's because I care about people. That's why I'm a Liberal. That's why we are Liberals.
10:35So, we need a strong economy. But when we're fighting for a strong economy,
10:43we're fighting for good Canadian health care for everyone.
10:49We are fighting for strong support for our seniors who built this country.
10:54We are fighting, we are fighting for child care for young families that they put in place.
11:01We are fighting for dental care and pharma care for everyone who needs it.
11:08We are fighting for rights.
11:11We are fighting for a strong economy so we can create a more sustainable world for our children and grandchildren.
11:19And we will deliver.
11:38I know, I know that these are dark days.
11:45Dark days brought on by a country we can no longer trust.
11:49We are getting over the shock.
11:53But let us never forget the lessons.
11:57We have to look after ourselves.
12:01And we have to look out for each other.
12:05We need to pull together in the tough days ahead.
12:10And so, to those families watching this evening in Fort Smith, in Edmonton, and across every community in Canada,
12:20I promise you this, together we can and we will get through this crisis.
12:28We can and we will come out stronger than ever.
12:35And we will because Canada is built on the strength of its people.
12:43From our mines to our ports.
12:46From our logging roads to our city streets.
12:49We're strongest when we're united.
12:52When we're one economy, not 13.
12:55When we can cheer for different teams and still be on one team when it counts.
13:00When we come together, we build things that last.
13:05Because we are Canada Strong.
13:10Vive le Canada.
13:12Merci.
