00:30The first ten days of the month of Mubarak are about to end.
00:33So, this segment of Niki is with the thought that
00:38every drop becomes a sea,
00:39if we light a single lamp, it becomes very bright.
00:42And the days of Mubarak are passing very fast.
00:45So, it is just a matter of lighting up.
00:47Keep going, at least light up your part of the candle.
00:49Zindabad, absolutely.
00:51And this segment of Niki,
00:53itself, Alhamdulillah, is a contribution from the side of ARY Digital,
00:57from all of us, for those institutions that are doing a great job.
01:01Look, there are two types of institutions.
01:03One is those whose work we generally see on a daily basis,
01:07on the roads, on the streets, there are post offices,
01:09there are ambulances, they have their names on them,
01:11there are hospitals, there are clinics.
01:13But there are some institutions that are working in remote villages,
01:16villages and slums.
01:18So, we may not be very familiar with their names in everyday life.
01:21But it is not that their work is less than any other institution.
01:26The institution we are talking about today, Shine Humanity,
01:29in rural areas, in villages and slums,
01:32they are doing a great job in terms of public health care.
01:36And the foundation of this institution, about 10 years ago,
01:39the Pakistani businesspersons who live in America,
01:42the doctors, they have been working together for a long time.
01:45And even now, it is a great contribution that they themselves,
01:48are contributing with the spirit of returning this sacred land,
01:51their country, their soil.
01:55There are 1.6 million people who have benefited so far,
02:00from different clinics, from different lab tests,
02:03from the supply of medicines, and there is a lot of work.
02:06We will talk about this later.
02:07Our guest today is Mr. Faheem Khan.
02:09He is the CEO of Shine Humanity in Pakistan.
02:14He is Dr. Farwah Shahid.
02:15He is a public health specialist.
02:17Thank you so much for coming.
02:18And again, we thank you all for the work of Shine Humanity.
02:23Please tell us about this institution,
02:25how did it come into existence?
02:28What is its presence in Pakistan?
02:29What is its relationship with the Pakistanis who live in America?
02:32And how are they running it?
02:36Yes, Mr. Iqral.
02:36Actually, when the earthquake in Pakistan hit in 2005,
02:40our founder, Dr. Salman Naqvi,
02:44came to us. He is a chest pulmonologist.
02:46And unfortunately, a two-year-old boy died in his hands.
02:51So he was very affected by it.
02:53And one thing that had been going on in his mind for a long time,
02:58he was a graduate of Sindh Medical College.
03:01He paid 300 rupees a year to the government.
03:03He was in such a big position in California,
03:07that he said, I earn so much, I want to give something back to my country.
03:11And with that idea, it basically came into existence.
03:15And then by 2009, he did fundraising and donated here.
03:20He was doing what he could do on his own.
03:22But then he said, why don't we make an organization in Pakistan?
03:25Take our fundraising forward.
03:29And do what we want to do with our own hands.
03:33So we came into existence here in 2013.
03:37We started with one clinic.
03:39And we kept working.
03:41In that one clinic, I learned my work.
03:43And where was this exactly, the first clinic?
03:45This was in Gharo.
03:46An hour away from Karachi, but the land was in the sky.
03:49You think the world has changed, that's how it is.
03:52So we started with one clinic.
03:54We made an electronic medical record in it,
03:56which made that clinic completely digital.
03:59And then from one clinic, in the last four years,
04:02we have now 17 clinics.
04:05In Sehwan, our next clinic is going to open after Eid.
04:09Thank you very much.
04:11We will try to open it.
04:12And here, facilities are being provided in terms of free labs.
04:16There is medication as well.
04:17I just want to know, the Pakistanis living in America,
04:22are they only supporting you,
04:23or are you getting help from other communities as well?
04:27Yes, our main supporters are the Pakistanis living there.
04:31Some people give us funds every year.
04:35Some give us something every month.
04:37And some people, in the name of their parents,
04:41if they have a village where they have land,
04:43they make a clinic for us and give us money.
04:48What can we do?
04:49May Allah reward them all.
04:51And of course, you can start any such work with passion,
04:55but the need is so great in Pakistan,
04:57that to run it, to increase it,
05:00obviously, a lot of other people's help is needed.
05:02And this is my request to all of you today,
05:05that please support Shine Humanity.
05:07I will say this again,
05:08that of course, you won't see big boards in different places.
05:11It's not that the boards are not working.
05:12It's a great work.
05:13But since it's working in villages and villages,
05:16then maybe the branding is not as good
05:18or the name doesn't reach us.
05:20So Doctor, please tell me,
05:22what kind of services are being provided to people
05:26by Shine Humanity in these 17 clinics,
05:28especially if we talk about it.
05:30Okay, one thing is that we normally,
05:32like we get a patient and they have a cold, cold, cough,
05:35all the curative services,
05:37we give them all of that.
05:39Okay.
05:39But apart from that, our focus is that
05:42the primary health care center is providing preventive services
05:46so that they don't get sick.
05:48That root cause should be eliminated
05:50so that they don't get sick.
05:51So that's why we provide a lot of such services,
05:54like our malnutrition program,
05:56where children from the age of 5
05:57come with their mothers,
05:59we check them, screen them.
06:02And if we feel that this child
06:04is not growing according to their age,
06:08then we give them a lot of supplement food.
06:10In the same way, we have a diabetes program,
06:13which is anywhere in rural Sindh.
06:15Before we move forward,
06:16if we talk about children and their malnutrition,
06:19are these alarming numbers in Pakistan?
06:21Very, very.
06:23In Pakistan, in Sindh,
06:25if we look at the last statistics of 2021,
06:31and if we look at it,
06:3260% of the children are stunted in Sindh.
06:36Okay?
06:37And it's more alarming than that.
06:38And after that, there was a flood.
06:40And the situation got worse.
06:42Inflation has increased so much,
06:43so the situation has gotten better.
06:44So this is working on the lack of food for the children?
06:47Absolutely.
06:48Not only for the children,
06:49but also for their mothers,
06:50we give a lot of multivitamins,
06:52which are only given in the US.
06:55We are trying to treat those multivitamins
06:57in the same way as the women of Tharparkar
07:00are treated with the same standards.
07:04Maybe there is a little standardization in the clinic.
07:07The treatment that we have in Karachi,
07:09we have a center in Malir,
07:11where services are provided.
07:13We try to provide exactly similar quality services
07:16to Tharparkar, New Jatoy, and Sajawal.
07:19I would like to add something
07:21in terms of malnutrition.
07:22You must have seen the video that was played in the beginning.
07:25Because malnutrition is very high in Sajawal,
07:28we have made a malnutrition center with a clinic.
07:32It is separate from the clinic.
07:34Okay.
07:34But only malnutrition is seen there.
07:37And all the schools in that area,
07:40and all the children in that area,
07:42we can see the malnutrition from the community outreach.
07:44So this is a very surprising thing.
07:47When we talk about our children,
07:48let's take the example of Iftari today.
07:50What are the blessings that will not be on our Dasar Khan?
07:53What kind of food,
07:55Italian, Japanese, Pan-Asian,
07:57I don't know what we want for our children.
08:00But 60% of the children in Sindh
08:03are not even getting basic food.
08:05This is a very far-fetched thing.
08:08Absolutely.
08:09I would like to add one more thing.
08:10All our clinics have a digitalized system.
08:14It is called EMR system.
08:16We can sit in Karachi and see
08:19which medicine is being given by the doctor.
08:20Okay.
08:21It also controls the quality of the doctors.
08:23You also get to know the numbers.
08:26If an epidemic is coming,
08:27where malaria is spreading more,
08:29how many cases are coming from which clinic.
08:31Right.
08:32We can do research on this
08:33and tell them internationally
08:36that these are the alarming situations in these clinics.
08:40Absolutely.
08:40So, all these clinics
08:43run on a centrally digitalized system.
08:46Zindabad.
08:47So, Fahim Bhai, what is the vision?
08:49We are talking about 17 clinics.
08:51If quality and standards are being taken care of,
08:55operating and running them is a big challenge.
08:58But what is Shayan Humanity thinking ahead?
09:01How far do we have to go?
09:02In which departments do we have to serve?
09:04Sir, our mission and the mission of our institution is
09:09that in every clinic,
09:11whether it is A clinic or 20, 25,
09:13we maintain the same quality.
09:16Like, if you go to our Gharu clinic,
09:18the procedure there is like that of Agha Khan Hospital.
09:23What to say?
09:24A patient's ID card is made
09:26in which the date of every visit is recorded.
09:30Right.
09:30Similarly, our farthest clinic is in Nagarparkar.
09:34Okay.
09:34With the border.
09:35And there are also issues of internet and electricity.
09:39So, it is very difficult to digitalize it.
09:42Exactly.
09:42But we are looking for other ways
09:44that we have made that app offline.
09:46So, if it gets even a little signal from the internet,
09:49it will upload all the data.
09:52Okay.
09:53So, we are going to face all these challenges.
09:55We are going to face all the challenges.
09:57There is one more thing that Mr. Yaqub donated to us.
10:03It is a MUC container.
10:04So, there are three clinics in the container.
10:07Okay, Mashallah.
10:08There are lab services everywhere.
10:10There is also a doctor and a pharmacy.
10:13And now, because there is a big issue of people's teeth
10:17by using dirty water,
10:19and by consuming other drugs.
10:21So, we are going to open a dental clinic in one of the containers.
10:26So, every clinic in our container will stay for a week.
10:30And all the people there,
10:32who need a dentist, they will come.
10:33Absolutely right.
10:34Dr. Farwa, these are all the challenges
10:37that are on the level of the organization.
10:40On the ground.
10:41Tell me, what are the problems?
10:43What are the challenges?
10:45And how are you dealing with them?
10:46Okay.
10:47We also took an initiative
10:50that wherever our clinic is,
10:53we hire women from there as a community advocate
10:58or community health worker.
10:59Absolutely right.
11:00And then they tell the problems of the families of the women of that area.
11:04Okay.
11:04So, it works as a bridge between us and that community.
11:08Because every community has its own problems and challenges.
11:12Somewhere there are so many family planning issues.
11:16In this way, we make tailored programs for those clinics.
11:21So, the ground reality is that
11:25you have to access and work in one place.
11:28Okay.
11:28And you have to work with the locals there.
11:30Yes, with the locals there.
11:33If we go for a camp,
11:34or they just come for a few days and then leave.
11:37Absolutely.
11:37So, you have to build your reputation and maintain it.
11:41For example, we had one clinic in Third Parker.
11:43But that model was so successful there
11:46that we opened another clinic.
11:47Okay.
11:48Right.
11:48Okay.
11:49So, in this way, we try to advocate for the people there.
11:54We try to give employment to the locals there.
11:57Right.
11:57One big challenge is that we don't get female doctors in rural areas.
12:01We don't get them, I am sure.
12:02So, for that, we have to double or accommodate them.
12:07The doctors who are ready to go or stay there.
12:09Absolutely.
12:10So, they come to face such challenges.
12:13There are a lot of internet issues there.
12:15To digitalize the clinic, we have to invest a lot of resources.
12:19Absolutely.
12:20But the more challenges there are,
12:22the more fun it is to overcome those challenges.
12:25Absolutely.
12:26If we talk about donations,
12:28as we said in the beginning,
12:29some friends and doctors from the Pakistani community
12:32and businesspersons started it.
12:34But obviously, when the work spreads,
12:36then maybe it doesn't stay in the hands of one person,
12:38or a few people, or a group of friends.
12:40Obviously, you can't stop it.
12:42And it's not possible to do it on your own.
12:45So, tell us, who are the people
12:47who have supported Shine Humanity so far?
12:50And what would you like to request to the people
12:52who are watching us on the television screen right now?
12:54The Pakistanis who live in America,
12:59they help us a lot.
13:01Because of their help,
13:03we have been operating for the last 10 to 11 years.
13:07And successfully.
13:08Long live.
13:09Even though, when COVID came,
13:11our clinics were open.
13:13We used to go home and give medicines.
13:15And everyone's jobs and salaries went on time,
13:18because of this.
13:18Long live.
13:19So, my request is always,
13:22and whenever I get a chance to speak,
13:25I always say this,
13:26that we get it in dollars,
13:29in thousands, in lakhs,
13:31but when someone gives 100 rupees,
13:34for which 100 rupees is a big thing,
13:38when we get that,
13:39and we get a lot of passion,
13:41the way our passion increases,
13:43that's something else.
13:44And the same drops become a river,
13:46the same lights come together.
13:48So, I always have a demand from people,
13:52that the organization you are giving it to,
13:54keep giving it.
13:55Because everyone is doing such a good job.
13:58This is a very positive approach, Mashallah.
14:00Without these organizations,
14:01the condition of this country would be very bad.
14:04So, the people you were giving it to,
14:06but there are a few left.
14:08Yes, that's a very good thing.
14:10Obviously, a lot of people are doing a great job in education.
14:14If we talk about hospitals,
14:15then obviously,
14:15but like I said,
14:17SHINE Humanity is focusing on rural areas,
14:20the rural areas,
14:21the villages.
14:23So, do try.
14:24And again,
14:25some people have kept this foundation with a lot of sincerity,
14:28with their own help,
14:30and instead of,
14:31God forbid, earning something,
14:33they are contributing themselves.
14:34But, because this issue is increasing,
14:36this network is increasing,
14:38so, obviously,
14:38we need everyone's help.
14:40So, I request everyone,
14:41that please,
14:42on the screen,
14:43the contact details of SHINE Humanity are also coming,
14:45bank account as well,
14:46and all other details as well.
14:49If you want to ask something,
14:50if you want to ask a question,
14:51if you want to get more information about SHINE Humanity,
14:53then do contact us.
14:55Absolutely.
14:56Great.
14:56As the name suggests,
14:58this is all about SHINE University,
15:03the light,
15:04the spark we are talking about from the beginning,
15:06and the theme we are taking with us.
15:07So, this is a question of name only.
15:09Sir, as he said,
15:11the biggest check-out has its own value,
15:13but if a person is giving 100 rupees,
15:15then it is visible from which heart and from which heart he is giving.
15:18And from that, his emotions also reach the heights.
15:21It helps.
15:21So, you,
15:23I mean,
15:23don't stop thinking,
15:25that by contributing this much,
15:27what difference will it make or not.
15:28So, definitely light your part of the candle,
15:30and strengthen your hand, Inshallah.
15:33Thank you very much for coming.
15:34We will send off our guests with a lot of applause.
15:36Great.
15:37We will be back after the break, Inshallah.
