00:00So we're here at Moseley Old Hall, a fantastic National Trust property here
00:04just on the edge of Wolverhampton, and we meet Ellie the ranger. Hello, I'm good
00:09thank you. Ellie, there's quite a big project going on at the minute in the
00:13meadow, just fill us in on what's happening. So within the stablecroft meadow here at
00:17Moseley Old Hall we've got lots of biological enhancement works happening.
00:20We're planting just over 3,000 trees, so that's a mix of native varieties as well
00:26as heritage fruit variety trees, so lots in terms of benefits for wildlife as
00:31well as people, so you can be picking your own fruit when they're nice and
00:33established. Wildflower meadow enhancements and then also some nice new
00:37natural play features going in the woodland for the children to play on. And you've 3,000
00:43trees to plant, where are you at so far, how many do you think you've roughly got
00:46in the ground? Everyone's been working really hard here at Moseley, all of the team
00:49and the volunteers, so thank you ever so much, and I say that we're currently
00:53probably just under 1,000 trees, so a little bit of a way to go. That's good going, and in terms of the
00:59children's area in the woodland, I guess that's going to be like climbing
01:02obstacles and that kind of stuff? Yep, so we've got a nice few different play features going in, so something for everyone, all different abilities and age groups, so they'll hopefully be in just before the summer.
01:12Great, so children will be able to enjoy those this summer here? Yep, just in time ready for the summer.
01:16Great stuff, so I'm curious, you're planting 3,000 trees here, along with the
01:21help of volunteers, do you get home and your gardens just like, I don't want to
01:25go in there, I've had me fill? No, I'm really passionate about the outdoors, especially trees, so any time outdoors is never wasted.
01:33Fantastic, and what are we planting in terms of the hedge then? We hear how
01:37important hedges are for many reasons, what sort of stuff is being planted here?
01:41Yeah, so hedgerows are really important in terms of habitat corridors, linking up
01:45different properties, allowing species to move between those, and it also helps in
01:49terms of habitats and then also food and reducing soil erosion. Within this
01:54hedge here we've been planting blackthorn, hawthorn, hazel, holly, and then we've also got some gilderose and wayfaring tree.
02:02Great stuff, well we wish you all the best with the project and we'll let you get back to it.
02:05Thank you Ellie. That's great, thank you ever so much.
