00:00I think many of us in our society, our consumer society, are so distracted, so alienated,
00:17so fragmented by the whole consumption process that we are not sure if we've actually been
00:24alive.
00:26Being alive in this country has come to be a counterfeit feeling, and that we think that
00:33when we buy something, we have an excitement, and we think we're feeling alive.
00:37Wait a minute, just a minute.
00:39What's wrong with this type of materialism?
00:42There's this huge, growing mass of people who are in the world of desire, and that world
00:49of desire, we've never seen before.
00:51No one knows how to handle it.
00:55And I got all kinds of plate toys, like coffee maker, espresso machine.
00:59Okay, that would be fine in some ways if it were sustainable in a financial sense or an
01:07ecological sense.
01:09When you look around, it doesn't look like there's anything wrong.
01:12We've done an awful lot of damage on this planet.
01:21Being unable to comprehend it is an easy way to justify keeping right on going the
01:25way we are.
01:27What do we do with the inescapable fact that to get to this level, we are ravaging and
01:35pillaging the earth?
01:40When we've seen something wrong, we've set about to change things.
01:50Ultimately, it takes each an enlightened citizenry.
01:52It takes each one waking up and being fully responsible.
01:56Our history is fantastic.
01:57We're a great people.
01:58We have a great future.
01:59I see no problems, except our doubting ourselves.
02:00And if we doubt ourselves, we can't make it.
