00:00Ironically, it's at a lunch for International Women's Day that the government faces a scandal
00:07over jobs for the boys.
00:09Do you think the Commissioner Michael Murphy should resign?
00:12I think that's a very complex matter and that's a matter for the Commissioner.
00:16No sign of the event's keynote speaker, Chief Minister Leah Finocchiaro, who cancelled at
00:20late notice.
00:22Less than a day after Police Commissioner Michael Murphy revealed himself to be the
00:25subject of an anti-corruption probe.
00:28It found he acted improperly, negligently and incompetently in the recruitment for a
00:33senior police position, which his good friend landed.
00:36I honestly couldn't think of a worse way of going about an application process.
00:42It completely flies in the face of all principles of fairness and most importantly the conflict
00:48of interest.
00:49The Police Association now calling for Commissioner Murphy to step down.
00:53We met at an emergency meeting last night, at 8pm last night.
00:57All our membership attended, all our appointed executive members attended and they voted
01:01unanimously to ask for the Commissioner's resignation in response to this.
01:05The Police Commissioner is the highest paid public servant in the Northern Territory.
01:10Everyone in the Northern Territory puts our faith in the police to do the right thing.
01:15Police on the beat, apparently appalled by the revelations.
01:19They were disgusted.
01:20They were distraught.
01:21They have no trust in the leadership.
01:23If the leader's not going to behave in the appropriate manner, they're expected to uphold
01:28as well.
01:29On the streets too, a lack of confidence in the integrity of the NT's senior executives.
01:34Once again in the Territory we always seem to end up in this situation where who the
01:38hell do we trust?
01:39His superiors should take an action maybe.
01:44One would assume he shouldn't have done it and he must have known that.
01:49The integrity breach by the Police Commissioner is one of the first serious tests of Leah
01:53Finocchiaro's leadership.
01:55As the fallout continues, some say the Chief Minister should have taken decisive action
01:59sooner.
02:00She is not showing any action or leadership.
02:03So she needs to step up or she needs to step aside.
02:06Northern Territory Police declined to comment on their Commissioner's next move.
