00:00Well, it happened.
00:01Despite many of his supporters saying
00:02he wasn't gonna actually do it,
00:04he was just playing hardball, it was just posturing,
00:06President Donald Trump's massive tariffs against Canada,
00:09Mexico, and China that were announced last month
00:11have officially gone into effect.
00:12So for Canada and Mexico,
00:13that means a sweeping 25% tariff on many goods,
00:16while China got slapped with an additional 10%
00:18on top of similar tariffs imposed a month ago.
00:20And with that, you know, this isn't a one-way street.
00:22China wasted no time responding
00:23and baselapped the US with retaliatory tariffs,
00:26took measures against multiple US companies
00:28and filed a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization.
00:30Also, as far as American companies go,
00:32China has added a bunch to its export control list,
00:34meaning that they won't get access
00:35to certain Chinese goods no matter what.
00:37And notably there, American farmers are possibly
00:39the group that will feel these tariffs the most
00:41because it's their products being affected.
00:43Which, you know, is a very big deal
00:44because China is actually the biggest market
00:45for American agricultural exports.
00:47Now, to be clear, this doesn't mean
00:48that American farmers will spend more to send goods
00:50to China just like it doesn't cost Chinese companies
00:52more to sell goods to Americans.
00:54But it does mean that Chinese buyers
00:55will have to spend more on American agricultural products,
00:58disincentivizing them from buying products
00:59that already operate on razor-thin margins.
01:01I mean, even calling it razor-thin, that's generous,
01:04considering that many rely on US government subsidies
01:06to even exist.
01:07You know, all of this as the response
01:08to the tariffs have been wide ranging.
01:10Right, I mean, one of the things we saw
01:11is Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
01:13giving a somber speech this morning.
01:14They've chosen to launch a trade war
01:16that will first and foremost harm American families.
01:22They've chosen to sabotage their own agenda
01:25that was supposed to usher in a new golden age
01:29for the United States.
