00:00It's the Beholder Mile. It's a grade one race for Phillies and Mayors, and it's going to be race number eight at Santa Anita on Saturday, March the 8th.
00:10So if you want to follow along with us, what I thought was really interesting about this group, you don't really have that standout in the division who's head and shoulders above everyone else.
00:21You have some new faces here and some horses who are going to get the opportunity to win a grade one, which is the highest status, the highest caliber of class in all of horse racing.
00:32Let's meet the field at Santa Anita race number eight on Saturday.
00:37The number one Rishi came from Chile, and when you look at some of the races that she ran in Chile, she was incredible.
00:45She was a multiple group one winner in Chile, so at the highest level over there, and she won at distances from six furlongs all the way to a mile and a quarter.
00:56You just don't see horses show that kind of versatility and that kind of brilliance.
01:01She's run three times since she's been in the U.S., and she's run well in all three of them.
01:07I think she's going to be a little more aggressive in this race than they had her in her last race.
01:12They kind of had her sitting third or fourth early on behind horses, and the horse who beat her that day, Copian, has become a very, very impressive filly.
01:22So I'm kind of getting some mixed feelings on Rishi where I wouldn't be shocked at all to see her win this race, but at her price of two to one, I would want a little bit more than that to really go dive in and play her on the win end.
01:37I'm just expecting them to be more aggressive with her, though.
01:40I think she'll be part of the early speed in here.
01:43The number two Hoosier filly, she's a grade two winner.
01:46She was a horse who started her career three for three, so she was really precocious.
01:52She was kind of like that young athlete who was just a little bit better than everyone early on.
01:58Then they caught up to her.
02:00She's been just three for her last 14 since, and she's just not as fast as some of the other horses in here, so I'm not quite as high on her as a few others.
02:12The number three Cavalieri, really interesting.
02:15I mean, she's undefeated.
02:17She's three for three.
02:18She's trained by Bob Baffert.
02:20Bob Baffert also trains the one Rishi.
02:23That's what I'm a little concerned about in this race is that those two are both horses who are likely to be on the lead.
02:32They want to show early speed.
02:33That's their running style.
02:35Are they both going to do that and battle each other when they're running for the same trainer?
02:41Because a lot of times that doesn't happen.
02:44The trainer will have one of the two of them go, and the other one sits off a little bit, and a lot of times the horse that gets the lead is able to win that race.
02:53So I'm just trying to project in my head how I think this race will unfold, and Cavalieri is a horse that's hard to leave out of any of your wagers.
03:04You're not going to get rich in betting her because she'll be one of the shorter prices in this field, but she makes a lot of sense, and it's a really good spot for her.
03:12The horse that I like is the number four, Ultimate Authority, who could be a really big price.
03:17She was 15 to 1 posted odds on the morning line, and I think you can go through her entire career of races, and you only have to make excuses for one or two of them.
03:30That was like a poor performance.
03:33Most recently she won at Santa Anita going a mile, and she came from off the pace.
03:39She had to go very wide, and she was making her second start back after having a long time off in between races.
03:46A lot of times for horses when they make their third start back of the form cycle, you're going to get the best effort from them.
03:53I could see her getting a really nice trip in here.
03:56You look at some of the horses she's faced earlier on in her career.
04:00Kopien, who I mentioned before, very nice filly.
04:04Kinza is another really nice filly.
04:07Accuracy, all three of those fillies got very, very high ratings for the races that they ended up winning.
04:15So I think Ultimate Authority is a fun long shot.
04:19We move to the number five, Tarifa, who is a three-time Graded Stakes winner.
04:25She had a really nice 2024 last year.
04:28She wasn't quite a Grade 1 horse, but she fits really well in this group.
04:33She's one of the more proven horses in this field, and I think that the one-mile distance will actually be great for her.
04:39She's going to be cutting back in distance a little bit.
04:42My knock on her would be she hasn't raced since November.
04:46So she probably needs a race or two before we're going to see her best races and before she'll be at her top level of fitness.
04:54Rounding out the field, it's Alphabella, the Grade 3 winner, but a horse who loves to finish second.
05:00She's finished second in three straight races and in seven of her 19 overall starts.
05:06So I think she's more of a minor award type.
05:09As we move to selections, I'm going to put the four on top.
05:12I mentioned the big price, Ultimate Authority.
05:15I'll go four, one, five, three.
