"The real thing" by American jazz trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie was recorded in 1969 and released on Perception label in 1970. The album featured long time collaborator James Moody on ntenor saxophone. "The real thing" is an album of jazz, funk and soul, featuring fine Eric Gale's guitar work, with the be-bop and hard-bop still there, where Dizzy's trumpet vies with dances and interplays with the virtuoso playing of the ensamble throughout.
