'Hungary is isolated,' António Costa says after Orbán blocks joint EU text on Ukraine

"We respect Hungary's position, but it's one of out 27. And 26 are more than one," António Costa said after an EU summit focused on Ukraine's future.

00:00EU leaders have agreed on a momentous plan to vastly increase European defence and security
00:05investment and spending of up to 800 billion euros.
00:08Heads of state and governments, joined by Ukrainian President Zelensky, travelled to
00:12Brussels as part of an emergency meeting, triggered in response to waning transatlantic
00:17relations and an announcement by the US that it was suspending military supplies to Kiev.
00:22Meanwhile it's not clear whether the US will provide a backstop to European peacekeeping
00:27troops in the event of a peace deal in Ukraine.
00:30But President of the European Council Antonio Costa says guarantees were necessary to preserve
00:35global order.
00:36First of all, the best security guarantee are the Ukrainians themselves.
00:44Since 24th of February 2022, the Ukrainian army is resisting.
00:52A lot of people believed at that time that they cannot resist more than three days,
01:00then more than three weeks, now they are resisting more than three years.
01:07Because this war is not only about Ukraine, it's about the respect of international law.
01:12It's the respect of international rules-based order.
01:17Meanwhile, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban blocked conclusions at the summit reaffirming
01:22the EU's unrelenting military support of Ukraine, saying the EU was isolating itself
01:27from Russia, the US and China.
01:29But President of the European Council Antonio Costa said Hungary was isolated from the rest
01:34of the Union.
01:36Angry is a different strategic approach on Ukraine.
01:41But that means that angry is isolated among the 27.
01:47And we respect angry position, but it's one out of 27, and 26 are more than one.
02:01President Zelensky thanked EU leaders for their unwavering support at a time described
02:05by President Macron of France as a new era of uncertainty.
02:08Sources also told Euronews that President Zelensky floated the idea of a one-million-man
02:14strong Ukrainian army supplied and supported by the West as any potential peace plan for
02:20his country.
