00:00This 85th year began raising funds for the war even before February 24, 2022,
00:06and we have a lot of on-the-ground partners.
00:08Intelligence Services of Ukraine, also for the fact that we grant humanitarian aid for them.
00:13We have recently started a stoop walk-down with a big banner on it that says,
00:20People were scared as of the beginning of 2025, after the inauguration,
00:24when initial reports were being given to various community leaders,
00:28various immigration and Office of New Americans in different states.
00:32They were being told directly by older holdover administration officials
00:38that it would be happening, that at some point this year,
00:42various statuses would be revoked for different minorities, including Ukrainians.
00:46That was tamped down after that was denied by the administration.
00:49That was back in January, February.
00:52At this point, we aren't getting an official statement of denial
00:56that that's going forward by the administration,
00:58but we are getting people ready to understand what their rights are.
01:18Many of these people do not have homes to return to.
01:21We're talking about people whose entire towns have been leveled altogether.
01:25Where would we be sending them back to? Nothing.
01:41We're preparing our community by making sure that leaflets for Know Your Immigrant Rights
01:47are translated into proper languages for them.
01:49That could be Ukrainian, that also could be Russian language, Crimean, Tatar and other languages.
01:54We want to let them know what other, not only their rights,
01:57if they are approached by immigration officials,
02:00we want to let them know what their other possibilities are
02:03for attaining temporary residency in this country,
02:06the pathway to full citizenship at some point, if that's possible for them.
02:10Just let them know, because the biggest thing that causes fear and panic is a not knowing.
02:20Ukraine, Ukraine
02:31There's a variety of responses to this.
02:33There are plenty of immigrants who may have even come five years ago
02:36prior to this displaced persons wave,
02:38who may have been in complete support of this kind of immigration purge in this country.
02:43And they are shocked to find that their friends and relatives
02:45who have come over from Ukraine will be rounded up in this way.
02:48There are fears in our community that people will be sent to Guantanamo,
02:51as we've seen other ethnic minorities announce that they will be shipped first to Guantanamo
02:55prior to being delivered back into their country of origin.
02:59The fact that these people were allowed here legally,
03:02they have a legal status, no matter what the vice president said,
03:05that TPS is not a legal status.
03:07People came here legally, and therefore it is a shock for them
03:11that all of a sudden, through the stroke of a pen, they are declared illegal.
03:18Ukraine, Ukraine
03:26Here, we have a severely traumatized group for the most part.
03:30I would say up to 10% of them have lived through some kind of severe witness trauma.
03:34A lot of them do not like associating with other waves of immigrants,
03:38be that Ukrainian immigrants or other refugees.
03:43They have been, from my personal experience,
03:46dealing with them at my local church and other churches.
03:49I know that they like to do talking circles of just them talking amongst themselves
03:53to support, to validate their lived experience,
03:56their struggles here in this country,
03:58if they didn't have English as a first language or a second language,
04:02but also to understand what they lived through and what they left behind.
