00:00Carpet pythons are ambush predators, preferring to sit and wait for their prey to come within

00:07striking distance.

00:09They're usually nocturnal, but during the breeding season, these pythons are known to

00:15roam during the day and night in search of a mate.

00:19So when did you guys first notice the snake, like what was it, what was it doing?

00:23The dogs started barking actually, and you can tell that their bark is different.

00:28They always do a different bark, don't they?

00:29And owners say it every time, like, we heard the dog go off and we never heard it before.

00:35When dogs and snakes go head to head, it's nearly always a fight to the death.

00:41Just be careful, he's on you, he's on you.

00:44Which is why it's crucial for pet owners to act quickly when they find a snake in their

00:49backyard.

00:50Is he pretty warm or cold?

01:12Every time Olivia pulls the snake off a branch, it reattaches itself.

01:18He's gone back on himself.

01:20Fabulous.

01:27Go gently, but if you want, in this situation, you can potentially go for the head grab,

01:35because you don't want to stuff it up, obviously, because you will get bit.

01:40Grabbing a python by the head is a risky manoeuvre.

01:42You can basically come in from on top of him and grab straight down.

01:47And something Olivia hasn't done since she started working with Stu 18 months ago.

01:52It's all about just that initial grab, because if you stuff that up, you're going to get bit.

02:01Just like what I'm doing, you've got to be kind of firm at the same time, because they

02:06can quickly just go around and grab you.

02:08Once we get him all the way out, what we'll do is we'll lower him straight down onto the ground.

02:12After nearly 30 minutes...

02:14That's it, bring him right down.

02:16The python is finally out of the tree.

02:18And then what you're going to do, so now that you've got the back end secure, put the whole snake down.

02:23All of it?

02:24Yep, but then hold onto the back end and quickly let go of the front end.

02:27Get your hand out of there.

02:28Perfect.

02:30It will now be relocated to nearby native bushland.
