00:00Now, this decision by President Trump was made without consulting NATO allies, and we've
00:08heard in the last couple of days someone very close to Donald Trump, Elon Musk, who says
00:13that the United States should leave NATO.
00:15I don't know what you think about that.
00:17What would that mean for NATO?
00:19Well, I mean, it is not Elon Musk, first of all, I mean, who should come up with any kind
00:27of judgment on this, because he is clearly absolutely illiterate in these type of issues.
00:32But we've heard President Trump already making similar noises during his election campaign.
00:38So I maintain the view over the past half year or so that the allies would be well advised
00:45to really prepare to contingency planning, because even if Mr. Trump will not officially
00:53abandon NATO, he has a wide range of opportunities to really do harm to NATO.
00:59And he has already harmed NATO massively, primarily, obviously, by leaving the consensus
01:06on Russia.
01:07And if I think back of just two days or three days ago, when the U.S. Defense Secretary
01:13ordered the U.S. Cyber Command to stand off all operations, defensive and offensive cyber
01:20operations against Russia, this is something really, really bad.
01:24I mean, this is almost insane, I think, unless you side with Putin.
01:31So this harms the alliance.
