00:00The Cowboys did place the franchise tag on interior defensive lineman,
00:04their gate tackle Osa Odigizuwa.
00:06They placed the franchise tag on him, but as negotiations were already beginning.
00:11So Odigizuwa could not test the open market to see what that value truly is.
00:17Regardless, the Cowboys and Odigizuwa have agreed to a new deal.
00:22Four year, $80 million with 52 mil guaranteed.
00:26Odigizuwa, 26 years old, has started all 17 games in the regular season.
00:31Each of the last three years for Dallas coming off a career best four and
00:35a half sacks along the interior of that D line for the Cowboys this past season.
00:41So with some foresight and maybe a little bit of haste this time around,
00:47Jerry Jones and the Cowboys get a long term extension
00:50done early in the off season, not letting it drag out.
00:54Yeah, I'm one of the more consistent players on defense.
00:56That defense was terrible down the stretch.
00:59They were terrible against the run,
01:01against some of the better teams in terms of the NFC and AFC.
01:04And now you sign him to a long term deal to solidify the middle, right?
01:09That should open up things for Micah Parsons and the outside.
01:12And obviously Micah Parsons is another player that they have to prioritize in
01:17terms of the off season, get him signed, Iggy, right?
01:20And then all of a sudden now you can move on to bigger and better things.
01:25Especially for a first year head coach, Jerry would be doing an honest disservice
01:29to Kellen Moore and that staff if he didn't sign these players sooner rather
01:33than later and move them on in respect to the locker room and the continuity.
01:38If you allow these things to linger throughout the off season,
01:42then you have a locker room that's disassembled, that's not in tune.
01:46And a first year head coach, it's a big problem.
01:50And just to clarify, Brian shot him.
01:52But I also messed up as well.
01:54So we own our mistakes here on FFC.
01:57The Cowboys, the update over the weekend was that Dallas planned to utilize
02:01the franchise tag on Oso Odigizuwa had they not reached a deal by
02:06this tag deadline day in Tuesday at 4 PM Eastern.
02:10So the franchise tag was actually not placed on Odigizuwa, but
02:15they were able to agree to a long term deal before it because of the deadline
02:20looming and just to show why the franchise tag doesn't actually benefit
02:25the NFL organization in terms of the financials is because the franchise tag
02:31for a defensive lineman this year is a little bit more than $25 million.
02:35So on the annual average value, Odigizuwa only making 20 mil per year,
02:40but gets $52 million guaranteed up front.
02:45He's good for cap space for Jerry Jones and
02:48the Cowboys after having paid Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb last offseason.
02:53And certainly going to have to pay Micah Parsons this offseason.
02:57That was a good move by the Dallas Cowboys, not something that we often say.
