How to Create Window Details in SketchUp
Adding window details in SketchUp enhances the realism and accuracy of your model. Follow these steps to create and refine window details effectively.

Step 1: Create a Basic Window Opening
Select the Face: Click on the building wall where you want to place the window.
Draw the Window Shape:
Use the Rectangle Tool (R) to draw the window outline.
Enter precise dimensions (e.g., 1.2m, 1.5m) in the Measurements Box and press Enter.
Push/Pull (P) to Cut the Opening:
Select the Push/Pull Tool (P).
Click on the window rectangle and drag inward until the opening cuts through the wall.
Step 2: Add Window Frames & Glass
Create the Window Frame:
Select the Offset Tool (F) and click inside the window opening.
Drag inward to create a frame (~5cm) and press Enter.
Use Push/Pull (P) to extrude the frame slightly outward.
Add Glass:
Select the Rectangle Tool (R) and draw a glass pane inside the frame.
Open Materials (B) Glass & Mirrors and apply a glass texture.
Step 3: Add Window Details
Divide the Window: Use the Line Tool (L) to create vertical and horizontal divisions.
Create Window Mullions:
Offset the divisions slightly.
Use Push/Pull (P) to extrude the mullions outward.
Apply Materials: Use Materials (B) to assign different textures to the frame, glass, and mullions.
Step 4: Make the Window a Component
Select the entire window (frame, glass, and details).
Right-click and choose Make Component.
Now, you can copy and place the window across the building without redrawing it.
Final Tips:
✅ Use Groups and Components to keep the model organized.
✅ Adjust Transparency Settings in Materials for realistic glass.
✅ Save your window as a component for future projects.
