00:00Chris, defeat to Leeds tonight, your thoughts on the evening?
00:04Yes, a disappointing end to a mainly positive evening for us.
00:10Go toe-to-toe with the best team in the division.
00:12I said they're the best team all along, wasn't winding anybody up or spinning anything,
00:16you know, and we kept them quiet for 60, 65 minutes.
00:20Thought we started off absolutely superbly on the front foot.
00:25Big moments to go two up, which we didn't capitalise on.
00:29They gradually grew into the game in the back end of the first half
00:34and then they're 1-0 down, away from home,
00:37and they've got players that go for it.
00:41We had a few moments, we just lost control of the game a little bit
00:45in terms of keeping hold of the ball.
00:48I said to the players, we felt as if we needed to score on every opportunity
00:53and every attack, where we just needed to be a bit more patient
00:56and keep control of the game.
00:59Disappointing from our point of view, their goal, what, 70-odd, 72, 73 minutes?
01:05It's about 72, yeah, I think.
01:08Stop the cross, see the run out, but they're piling people full because they've got a risk.
01:14And there was a couple of moments just before that where, you know, counter-attack transition,
01:18where, you know, opened up for us to try and get a second goal.
01:26Didn't see a run out in the box, that's the way they play.
01:29There's a left-back in the middle of our goal.
01:32So, disappointing that we've not stopped the cross and seen the run out.
01:36And then, I think, 88, 89 minutes.
01:39I think maybe, from our point of view, not being negative on it,
01:43but we've gone toe-to-toe with the top side.
01:45You possibly shook hands for a draw and it's, you know,
01:48incredibly disappointing to concede from a set play.
01:50You know, we got done by a set play up there on 78, 79 minutes
01:55and we got done again on a set play and we've not got first contact on it.
01:58The boys run off one of our players and they find a second goal
02:04and then, ultimately, a fabulous finish late on.
02:06I think the scoreline is a little bit unjust and harsh on us,
02:09but we've got to go again.
02:11Sometimes you've got to stay, you know,
02:13add a little bit more in the locker than us.
02:16So, we have to stay humble and work our way back into a performance
02:24and a result on Saturday.
02:26Our reaction to disappointment has been outstanding all season.
02:29So, I'm not going to beat the players up on tonight.
02:31We've gone toe-to-toe with, you know, from a metrics point of view,
02:36the best team in the division.
02:37I think Jack was just saying it there.
02:38We were 3-1 to win at home, which is ridiculous.
02:42So, the bookies go on the metrics and that's how far they've been,
02:46Ned, of every team in the division.
02:49We've run them close.
02:50Don't like to lose games at home,
02:52but we have to look bigger picture and look at where we are,
02:57what we need to do to recover from disappointment.
03:00As I said, we lost against Leeds, we lost against Middlesbrough.
03:04We won nine out of ten,
03:06massively stretched over the Christmas period and the Hull game.
03:11And then we go and win, what, five or six out of seven.
03:15So, 12 games to go, dust ourselves down and go again.
03:19A lot of football to be played, a lot of points to be won.
03:20And let's go again and regroup
03:25and see if we can go and get ourselves a win on Saturday.
03:28Indicated this yourself,
03:30did it feel like in that first half when you were on top,
03:32you just needed that second goal if you could have got it?
03:35Oh, yeah, of course.
03:35But, you know, I thought the players, the attitude to the game,
03:38we want to put them on the back foot and we did.
03:41You know, not that it's the be all and end all,
03:45but it was a very quiet away end for a long time.
03:49So I think they recognised that this was a tough game
03:52and how it panned out,
03:54it was going to be a close game between two good sides.
03:57I think that everybody watching on that would have agreed
04:00there wasn't a lot between the teams,
04:02but ultimately they found that cross and that finish and the set play.
04:06And we didn't find the bits and pieces that we needed to find to win a tight game.
04:11And they've won a tight game.
04:13So congratulations to them.
04:14They're a good side, as I said all along.
04:17But I don't think we're a million miles off of it.
04:19And we've just got to show that and show all the qualities that we've shown for 34 games.
04:26Vinny Souza tonight really kind of drove it in the middle of the park,
04:30just doing everything you'd want out of a midfielder.
04:32I know there's some other big performances as well,
04:34but he was certainly somebody that stood up in a big game.
04:36Yeah, I thought all the players stood up to it,
04:38you know, in terms of their contributions.
04:42I thought we were decent,
04:45but you have to be really, really good to beat them.
04:49And we just fell a tiny bit short.
04:51So no disgrace in that.
04:54As I said, I'm not going to smash the players and beat them up.
04:57There's been a lot talked about performances and stuff like that.
05:00It was a decent enough performance.
05:03Another night we get a positive result, but it wasn't our night.
05:05And we have to take it on the chin and be humble
05:09and move quickly on to the game on Saturday afternoon.
05:15Of course, losing Harry Clarke at the end of the first half was a blow, wasn't it?
05:18You know, but Hamza's come on in the second half,
05:21he's played there before, filled in,
05:22and that's the point of the squad, isn't it?
05:24Yeah, it is, yeah.
05:25We lost Alfie in training with an ankle injury.
05:29Femi's just easing his way back in as well.
05:31So Hamza's had to play out of position.
05:33So, yeah, it's not his natural position,
05:37but it'll do a job for the team, as they all are.
05:39So, you know, there's a lot of encouragement from tonight's performance.
05:43They've steamrolled everybody.
05:45They've swatted everybody away.
05:46They didn't swat us away tonight.
05:48And I'm not accepting defeat easily.
05:50I don't want us to be the hard-luck story.
05:53And we did OK on the back of that because we came here tonight to win.
05:58And a lot of the stuff, maybe on another night, would have got that three points,
06:04if not a result out of the game.
06:07But we didn't, and as I said, we've got to go again.
06:11Just finally, I imagine now that it will still be about chasing them down, won't it?
06:15And looking for leads and still going for that top spot.
06:17Well, you know,
06:21Dan said it, I've said it, you know, Scott Parker said it.
06:25I imagine the Sunderland manager would have said it.
06:27You know, there's a lot of football to be played.
06:30Nothing gets decided tonight.
06:33They've put themselves in a fabulous position, of course.
06:36And if we'd have got a result, if we'd have got a win,
06:39we'd have still said the same things and the narrative would have still been the same.
06:44There's still a lot of football to be played.
06:47So, you know, the attitude is not chasing anybody down.
06:51The attitude is going to win the next game, which we have done on numerous occasions,
06:55because that's the reason.
06:57We sat in this position and thought the support tonight was fabulous.
07:00It was an electric atmosphere at Bramall Lane.
07:02I think that was a connection between the players and the supporters.
07:07Ultimately, we all go home disappointed, but there's still a lot to play for.
07:12You know, listen, wherever we go with this, we quickly have to get over it.
07:19Quickly have to get over it.
07:20And they've shown historically this season that they've done that.
07:22And we need to do it again.
07:24Thanks, Chris.
