00:00Greetings from the the Allen Abode here and I'm just reflect on the situation
00:06last night when it was announced that Colby Bishop had been given a new
00:09three-and-a-half-year deal which is incredible really for a 28 year old to
00:14to be given that length of contract before a season's end as well. Normally
00:20Pompey's approach to contracts with senior players is to wait to the end of
00:25the season to where they know what division they'll be in. With Bishop
00:30though it's really interesting because he's clearly such an integral part of
00:33this side, has been an integral part of this side's success previously and to give him
00:39a three-and-a-half-year deal at this stage of the season doesn't happen often
00:44it's extremely extremely rare so that's all credit to Colby Bishop's
00:48performances and also to Pompey for trying to keep him. Colby was out of
00:52contract in the summer although Pompey had a 12-month option, club option so
00:57they could easily just activated that to keep him at Fratton Park but they've
01:02given them a new contract which is fantastic. It seems a long time ago
01:05oh cash in mind back to the summer of 2022 and Pompey were on a preseason tour
01:12to Murcia in Spain they had no strikers they had to get a lad called Jonathan
01:18Alaphabier on trial and a kid who flew from Manchester and joined them
01:27separately. They tried to keep him under wraps and they wouldn't reveal his
01:31name but they needed him to basically help them in training because they had
01:37no fit strikers. Dan Gifford was here as well he picked up an injury there was
01:41just no fit strikers at the football club and naturally everyone was concerned
01:46about who the striker would be or strikers they would be to strengthen
01:49his side and I remember seeing Danny Cowley getting increasingly frustrated
01:54at preseason in Murcia about who's gonna bring in he's struggling to find a
02:00striker and not long after a certain person called Colby Bishop entered the
02:06football club. They've been pursuing him for a while at one point it looked like
02:10he was going to go to Blackpool that didn't materialise and then Colby
02:14Bishop ends up at Threaten Park and we're talking approaching three years
02:18since that moment what a signing he's been absolutely outstanding
02:22in terms of goals, what he brings to the team, his work rate, the character he
02:28is, his journey. Pompey fans have really taken to Colby Bishop and he's
02:34just a top guy all round and you can see the passion he has and he just loves his
02:39football club and the fact that he's willing to pledge himself for such a
02:43long time as well till 2028 says a lot about his commitment to the cause as
02:48well. So yeah it's been an incredible journey for Colby Bishop and everyone
02:53has watched him really isn't it? Twice he's broken through the 20 goal barrier,
02:58five goals so far this season, the first step up to the championship and I know
03:03some people criticise him on occasions but he always
03:07proves people wrong doesn't he Colby Bishop and you look at his stats
03:10when he came back against Preston Pompey had gone one win in the first 15 games
03:17of the season since then he started 19 league games for Pompey they've won nine
03:23and drawn three that shows you what Colby Bishop brings to the team other
03:27than goals he's just a phenomenal player for this team in this
03:31setup at present perfect so I think it's fantastic news everyone thinks it's
03:39fantastic news it's brilliant it's a really good time at the moment for
03:41Pompey in the last few weeks isn't it? Three successive wins, climbing nine
03:46points clear of the relegation zone and now Colby Bishop pledging his future it's
03:49really encouraging to see isn't it? So yeah obviously something round the
03:54corner to knock us all down again won't know because it's being Pompey
03:57isn't it? That would happen wouldn't it? But really encouraging and
04:03hopefully we'll see Colby score many more goals in the future thank you
