00:06peacekeeper troops in Ukraine as part of a deal to end the war.

00:11He made the comments as he hosted French President Emmanuel Macron at the White House to discuss

00:15the ongoing conflict.

00:17Speaking at a joint press conference after their closed-door meeting, Macron said European

00:41nations are ready and willing to deploy troops to guarantee Ukraine's security.

01:03The French leader noted that Europe must learn and not repeat mistakes of the past.

01:07Russia revealed that the Kremlin had betrayed their trust in 2014 and violated a negotiated

01:12peace deal as it proceeded to annex the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea.

01:17In 2014, our predecessors negotiated peace with President Putin.

01:25But because of the lack of guarantees and especially security guarantees, President

01:29Putin violated this peace.

01:32So this is why being strong and having deterrence capacities is the only way to be sure it will

01:39be respected.

01:41Trump maintains that Putin is serious about securing a peace deal and bringing the war

01:45to a close.

01:47He added that he believes a deal can be finalized and implemented within weeks.
