00:00Does anybody want to redo on their Jimmy Butler take I came in and wanted to redo one and and and I have
00:07Which which is to say I was absolutely wrong with regard to the energetic shift
00:15That not was needed
00:16I think we knew something was needed
00:19But I was certainly wrong in terms of how that energy shift could immediately affect the team
00:24I cannot think of too many deadline deals that have led to this much of a different vibe this quickly
00:32Like sure you want to come in and contribute my god. They look like two completely different basketball teams and
00:40And and yeah, he's a one so I understand that but they're not supposed to just be able to do that
00:46It's not turnkey
00:48Normally, we'll think about the other big-time players that made moves to other teams Luka Donchik
00:54He has been kind of slow to to build he played great yesterday
00:59And I think that his impact is gonna be more of a long-term one dear and Fox in
01:04San Antonio unfair because his running mate got a blood clot and he's now out for the year so San Antonio's
01:12Their prospects got really hit by that
01:15Zach Levine in Sacramento has been exactly what you thought Zach Levine in Sacramento would be Anthony Davis played
01:22About seven minutes and hasn't played since and Jimmy Butler's come here
01:27And they've gone five and one and not only have they gone five and one
01:30But the eye test the ear test the vibe checks everything about it has been an unmitigated
01:37success like blowing away
01:40Every other player move or acquisition that actually happened. Yeah. Yeah, no doubt about it
01:45And I can't wait to hear from the horse's mouth Steve Kerr
01:48At five o'clock with with a little bit more in terms of what it is that has changed this or why it is so quick
01:55And easy
01:56Seemingly, I'm sure it's not you know, you can go through these six games
02:00It's funny you sit here on a day like today and you're like man
02:03Jimmy Butler showed up and they just don't have bad basketball in them anymore
02:07Well, hold on, you know, there was the first half in Chicago there was the third quarter
02:14Into the fourth quarter in Houston. There was obviously the game in Dallas. So part of it is that these two most recent games?
02:22They come over the weekend. They are quality opponents not great teams
02:26But quality opponents and I mean the Warriors just dude
02:31You put your feet up by the time we got to the second quarter in both of these games hammer time
02:35Yeah, like that's that's what I'm talking about
02:38You take your clutch games and throw them out the window stop playing such close games every time
02:43Yeah
02:44and so that was nice that was nice to have a couple autumn in game one and one in clutch games since Jimmy's come the
02:49Houston game
02:50Became a clutch game because you kind of backed your way into that Houston rallied and made it close inside that five-minute mark
02:57And the Dallas game, of course was a clutch game
03:00But beyond that mark like these blowouts yesterday's a great example of what a blowout can do for you
03:07because Steph Curry didn't have to play in the third quarter and
03:10You've got an older team and if you can make it so your fourth quarter does not involve Steph Curry
03:16Jay Jimmy and Draymond played five minutes apiece of mostly light-duty and then you turned it over to
03:22URI Pat Kevin and the kids
03:25URI Pat Kevin Quinton and Gee why you guys go in here and mop up for us and
03:30Additionally if you get into the six seed and you have a couple of games
03:35That you can play with because you're gonna be locked in the six
03:38Well now we have a spot where you can rest these older guys and their older legs
03:42And you don't have to worry about the play in and I'm looking at the dates
03:46The first round begins on April 19th, and their last game is April 13th
03:51So you might have six days anyway, but if you can clinch the six on April 9th
03:58Now you can get these guys ten days. You know what I'm saying though mark. I know it's just you can start
04:03You can start getting greedy. Well, right, but I like like clinching the six seed as you sit in the
04:10You know in the in the nine or in the eight or whatever
04:14Whatever it is in this moment. Is it a tonight in this mom? You're the nine still the nine. Yep
04:19Half game back in Dallas and Minnesota half game back in Minnesota. Yeah, and only
04:24Watching. Yeah. Yeah, the Clippers are the Clippers are playing right now and
04:28In in Detroit and they are up by four dibs. Yeah, they are off to a hot start
04:34There is no board watch happen if it goes do box right now is really putting it on them
04:40But anyway, we'll see what happens
04:42Matt in Oakland is is next up. I'm at what you doing. Hey fella
04:49How we doing? Oh, we're good
04:52Okay, I was wrong. I
04:54Thought this would be a disaster
04:56I give you one Butler and I want to calm down because of course we all suffer from presentism
05:03but
05:04I'm kind of thinking even though it's early. Is there somebody out there that
05:10Could have done better. I don't think they ever had a shot at Luca, but I mean, I'm just running through the possibilities and
05:17I mean KD would have cost a lot more. Yep
05:20Fox didn't fit
05:22Ingram cares. I mean, I just this is kind of perfect and it's
05:28Kind of blowing my mind. I mean, can you guys think of a better?
05:32Player that they could have gotten does exactly what they needed and don't have I mean, uh, it's kind of blowing me away
05:39But I just want to hear what you guys think. Yeah, who would be better Matt? Thanks. I I think here's how I'll answer it
05:46I I think it's an unfair premise moment to have this conversation
05:52no one's gonna sound better because we've seen Jimmy and
05:56They're five and one and we haven't seen anyone else. So I have no idea how to answer that
06:02However, I will answer in the in something that you sort of touched on a little bit there
06:08things really broke the Warriors way in that they were able to
06:13Find someone to seemingly come in and have a massive effect without really giving anything up
06:18I mean if we go back a year ago, they were trying to give Andrew Wiggins away
06:22I'm not gonna say that a first-round draft pick is nothing. They gave up a first-round draft pick, but
06:28As long as he plays well that first-round draft pick becomes something you're fully willing to part with because now
06:34It's up in the neighborhood of 20 as opposed to you know
06:3911 or whatever. Yeah, you know what I mean? So
06:43from the perspective of what they had to give up if they were gonna get Durant or if you were gonna get even into a
06:49Luca conversation or if you want to go backwards
06:52Which is even more relevant and talk about Paul George and Lowry marketing what those deals would have cost you
06:59To get this kind of an effect for what they gave up. I
07:04Would say no
07:06no, there is absolutely no one better that you could have gotten and think about if it was Kevin Durant that you were able to
07:12Get and you know, according to the article today in The Athletic from Marcus Thompson and Sam Amick the two parties had a deal
07:20Put together in place that eventually broke apart
07:23Yes, the Warriors got cold feet when they heard that Kevin Durant was more than reluctant about rejoining the team
07:30So if you want to just close your eyes and pretend what that deal would have involved
07:35I believe Draymond Green was gonna be a part of that deal in order to find 50 million worth of salary to get Kevin Durant
07:42I think you're talking about
07:44Wiggins and Draymond and
07:47Maybe a throw-in player and a couple of picks. I think Kaminga is in the deal, right?
07:52So Jonathan coming is in that deal
07:54And I think I think at least two probably three first-round drop picks are in that deal
07:59And I don't know if we have a real definitive idea of what that package would have been for KD
08:04But I do know that it's gonna be bigger than what you ended up having to spend to get Jimmy Butler
08:09I would imagine that yeah, Kaminga was involved and at least another pick would be involved
08:15And so to the caller's point, is there a player out there that could have been this for the Warriors?
08:21I think Kevin Durant could have been in a different way and maybe you could have done it without getting rid of Draymond Green
08:27Maybe it would have been you know
08:29Wiggins and Kaminga and a couple of filler players like Schroeder and and
08:34Slomo apologies to them for calling them filler and a couple of picks
08:38But I think that it would have taken more assets and how much better would KD be for this team?
08:43Than what we've seen from Jimmy Butler. I don't know. I mean our
08:47Mindset has changed our
08:50Mindset at the time was bucket getter and it's why Zach Levine for instance was on people's minds
08:57I do want to say this real quick after watching him play on Friday night. I know everybody had the same sort of like
09:04Reflex like nausea reflex watching Zach Levine play for the Sacramento Kings didn't look too good
09:10This is I know nothing on this. This is not a report
09:14I never thought that the Warriors were in on Zach Levine. I didn't either I do not I didn't buy it then
09:20I don't buy it now like Zach Levine
09:23The only way someone was gonna take Zach Levine if they were up a creek and not smart and I give you the
09:31Sacramento Kings like you ended up in a spot where for some reason
09:36You felt like Darren Fox could force his way off your team. I don't get it
09:41I don't understand what the hell happened in Sacramento, but you were stuck salaries needed to match
09:46You felt like you got to get him off your team. They're giving up a lot of points. Okay fine
09:51We'll take Zach, but that's a terrible contract
09:54It always was the Bulls were dying to get off of it
09:58And and they finally did and I never thought that that was gonna be the Warriors move
10:02That was not gonna make them a better basketball team. But anyway back to the point
10:07I think our mindset has changed because what we were dealing with was man
10:11We get to the fourth quarter and the non-staff minutes and we can't find a bucket getter
10:15Well, Jimmy is one of the people who fills that role
10:18But now look at all the other stuff that you sort of feel like he's doing there's there's the defensive side
10:24there's the presence there's the specific fit with what he does down low and in the paint and the
10:31just the the absolute hatred he has for turnovers and that dog in him as
10:38Draymond put it another a-hole on the team like
10:42Nobody else really fits that description who was available
10:46So, yeah, maybe they stumbled and fell into the absolute perfect acquisition
10:51yeah, a guy who can defend and
10:54somebody who like you said
10:56Abhors hates turning the ball over and somebody who makes everybody else better and he gets to the foul line
11:02So the weaknesses of this team
11:05Defense has been a problem and get into the foul line has been a problem
11:08those are two things he's very good at and also the spacing and I can't help but think about what he's done for Steph because
11:15I'm looking at Steph play now in the last six games and he's not having to exert as much every trip down the floor
11:22Because you can't just double team him all the time when Jimmy's out there because now that double team
11:28Okay
11:28Steph drops it down to Draymond or Jimmy Butler and now you're playing four on three
11:32with a couple of very good ball handlers and high IQ guys and
11:36It's too easy for them to win a four on three when you double team Steph. You just can't do that anymore
11:41So here's the other thing I was gonna say to you though when I was listening
11:43The reason I was chuckling when you were talking about clenching the six seed. Yeah, like I
11:48mean, oh
11:50Man, you're probably right as
11:54It sits here today. You're probably right
11:57But it just does not feel right to be talking about clenching the six seed when I'm not even kidding you
12:03We left here on Friday with like Oh
12:06succeed
12:07That feels a little out there. They win two basketball games and
12:12Now all of a sudden it feels inevitable and I just know the favorites mark well
12:19He's probably right Anthony Slater. Just said that a short time ago and in this moment
12:24It feels like that but man I can turn fast it turned in their favor fast
12:28It can turn in the opposite direction fast
12:30So I just I don't want to get those wheels spinning that fast where all of the sudden we've decided
12:37Well, I mean hell why stop there how about five seed come on the words are never gonna lose again
12:43like
12:44That's all I'm just saying that the Jets are going. Yeah, that's great. But I
12:51Don't know find the brake pedal a little bit. Well, he's excited as anybody. We don't need to pump the brakes
12:57But you're talking about clenching it not getting to it, but clenching it with extra time. It's like right. Whoa
13:03I'm talking about getting to it and you know, Anthony Slater who joined us talked about you know
13:09in a week and a half you might be there if things continue to break your way with the schedule you have and with what the
13:16Competition is doing you might be able to get there and when you get there if you keep playing
13:20Well, you can hold it
13:22All I'm saying is you might get to a spot in the end of the year and I looked at the schedule a little bit
13:27ago you end it with at Phoenix and
13:31They might be in nobody wants to play mode they're already there. Okay. Well, this is April 8th
13:37So they cannot beat anybody. Okay, are you seeing who they're losing to right now?
13:42By the way, your last four are at Phoenix
13:44Yeah home to Wembley list Spurs at Portland and then you've got the Clippers
13:49So you might get to the last couple of games and you might have a little cushion
13:54And I know you've got LA and Denver and Houston before that
13:57so that's the tough part of your remaining schedule, but you might be in a spot where you have the six and you can just
14:05You know get six and chill the Phoenix Suns have lost nine of twelve
14:11with multiple losses to the Portland Blazers
14:15a loss in San Antonio and then just yesterday a
14:21double digit
14:2318 point loss to the Toronto Raptors
14:27The Suns are done and
14:29quite frankly, I want to say this real quick and then we'll keep going with the warrior calls if anybody wants to
14:35Redo their Jimmy Butler take here. We are eight at eight nine five seven nine five seventy
14:39And there's probably gonna be a Jimmy Butler jersey given away here in the next six minutes
14:43I would I would bet look at you just my bet anyway
14:47We've spent so much time listening to the Dallas Mavericks front office get ripped
14:52Can we can we maybe spend a moment to like
14:56Think about whether the worst front office over the last two weeks was not the Mavericks. It was actually the Suns
15:03What's a bigger crime?
15:05Trading your prime level superstar and that may well be the answer but trading your prime level superstar in the middle of the night or
15:14Heading into your locker room
15:17Telling all of your good players. You're going to trade them
15:20Then not and
15:23Sitting there and letting them stare at each other awkwardly for the remainder of the year. I
15:28Can't figure out which one's crazier. Oh, it's not even close. The latter is crazier because
15:34Dallas and we can debate this, you know till we're blue in the face
15:38But you could make an argument that Dallas didn't get fleeced in that trade now. It doesn't look good because Anthony Davis is
15:45Hurt again on me. I'm gonna show you my surprise face
15:50That's what my two-and-a-half-year-old we do after bath time. We do faces in the mirror and one of them is oh
15:55We do surprise face. So that's my surprise face. Okay, of course, he's hurt again
16:00but we don't yet know what Luca is going to be and
16:04I look at the trade and I don't think that it's as bad for Dallas as everyone immediately thought well
16:09But sure, I feel like you're talking about in the moment and this year
16:12I think the the biggest crime of the Luca thing was a why didn't you get more in return and be that's fair and be
16:19Aren't you looking at the big picture?
16:21the big picture
16:22Not this season
16:24the fact that you took somebody who's in their 20s and is seemingly always in the top five in the MVP and
16:30is like the heart and soul of what your fan base cares about and
16:34Instead of having him for the next 10 years of his life. You're just like yeah
16:39That's what I don't get. It's not just about this year
16:42It's about future years, but we don't really yet know what Luke is going to be in the future. That's true
16:48I do think that you have to give a modicum of room for Dallas
16:53Thinking that they might know something that all of us don't maybe it's yet to be seen and for sure, you know
16:57You can just look at Lucas
17:00physique and he's not
17:02Absolutely sculpted now. He's playing with LeBron James and so perhaps he's gonna get motivated by a 40 year old who is absolutely chiseled
17:10But to your first question, what's worse?
17:13It's what's worse is what Phoenix did and you and I had this ferocious debate last year where you were saying
17:19They can't have these three guys can't do it
17:21and I said mark they they're allowed to and you and I did a whole thing back and forth and I said
17:26You know, they can and they might and you know what it could work
17:30That they're all three of them are really good players and mark if they keep them
17:33I mean look at a couple years ago
17:35They went on a run and this and that and you know, I was right that they could keep them
17:39But you were right that they absolutely shouldn't know and you also shouldn't go around the room and say
17:44One of you three is gonna be gone. Who's gonna be can't trade you don't want to trade you
17:49Hey, hey KD probably gonna be you pack your stuff and then you come back the next morning
17:55it's alright guys hands in the middle sons on three and they're like
18:00Here I mean in here in the end
18:03Mike Dunleavy
18:06absolutely
18:07Schooled the Phoenix Suns. I don't think he meant to he meant to do a deal with him
18:12he meant to acquire Kevin Durant and
18:15in theory
18:17That was agreed to here's the problem
18:20Nobody checked with Kevin and then they checked with Kevin and Kevin said I don't want to come and the sons are like we
18:26We really don't care what you want and the Warriors are like we do
18:30We're out. Yep, and Jimmy Butler who had been ticketed for Phoenix all along and
18:36And reportedly wouldn't sign an extension with the Warriors all of a sudden Dunleavy was able to pivot go directly to Miami and
18:44Still have a deal and it left the Suns with their pants down
18:49And look at them now their pants are down then pulled them back up yet
18:54I don't think they're going to either for the rest of the year
18:57They have three of the biggest six or seven contracts in the whole NBA and they can't win a game
19:05It's it's wild that has not been discussed enough. It's not like whatever y'all thought about the Dallas thing. I get it
19:12I had some thoughts too. Okay time to move on and take a look at what the Phoenix Suns front office did
19:19I can't think of anybody who was more irresponsible than them
