I wouldn’t necessarily call myself a thrill-seeker but what I’m doing today might just raise my blood pressure as I take on a fire walk. This is a test of mind-over-matter capabilities as in taking part in this experience I’m set to endure temperatures of more than 1200°C.

00:00I have done things over the years that some people might see as thrill-seeking
00:05but I wouldn't say I'm a massive risk-taker. However, I'm undertaking
00:10something today that has actually made me quite nervous and that is a fire walk.
00:14I've heard it's all mind over matter so before I even begin to walk on these
00:20hot coals we need to go in to speak to an expert who's going to get us in the
00:24right frame of mind to be able to undertake the walk across these boiling
00:30hot temperatures. If you don't have the preparation given by a professional
00:34trainer then you could be told that it's really easy that there's nothing to it
00:39and that it's not hot but if you step on and you find out suddenly it's hot you
00:43can have a different experience. So fire walking is pretty easy but you need the
00:49preparation you need to know. Steve certainly is the man in the know when it
00:52comes to this with more than 30 years of experience in the age-old practice
00:57of walking barefoot on hot embers. He's even helped train hundreds of new
01:01fire walking instructors. The talk beforehand is to give people a sense of
01:06certainty that it is a fire, it is hot, it is going to be about 1,100, 1,200
01:12degrees but if they follow certain procedures and get themselves into the
01:18right frame of mind they can fire walk but also they can do other things as
01:22well. Fire walking is what five seconds of your life. I want people to go away
01:28and to learn how to take action, keep going and celebrate the things that
01:32they've done whether they succeed or not. Celebrate the fact that they've taken
01:36action.
01:43At the beginning of today I wasn't even sure I'd be able to go through with this.
01:48I think being filmed does help, does make you do things that maybe in everyday
01:54life you wouldn't want to do but I did it in the end and it was nowhere near as
01:58scary as I thought it'd be at all.
