00:00If they had to eat any of their fellow castmates in real life, how would they want them prepared?
00:05Like Melanie Linsky, ta-ta, Sophie Thatcher, grilled.
00:09That just made me sick.
00:10That made me sick as well. It's early in the morning.
00:12It's a little bit much.
00:17Hi, I'm Melanie Linsky.
00:19And I'm Christina Ricci.
00:20We are part of the cast of Yellow Jackets.
00:23And this is fan mail. Let's do it. You first.
00:26Alright, let me see what this is.
00:28Oh God.
00:30From user, at Shauna's jorts.
00:32If there's one thing Yellow Jackets is going to do, it's fade to black to the sound of Shauna's screams of grief.
00:38What are jorts?
00:39I think it's like...
00:42Jogging shorts?
00:43Jogging...
00:44Jeans shorts?
00:45Jeans shorts!
00:46God, I would never have gotten that.
00:48Oh, because Sophie wears jean shorts.
00:50Okay, yeah. Yeah, jorts.
00:52Yeah.
00:53That's a good one.
00:54Everything that happens in the teen timeline informs what's going on in the adult timeline.
01:00And we were talking about this last night.
01:02Like, my favorite episodes are the ones where the thing that's happening in the teen timeline is reverberating at the same time and you feel the story kind of come together.
01:12I mean, when I'm reading the script, I read Sophie's stuff like I'm reading my own stuff to, you know, get all the information from that younger character.
01:20Poor young Shauna. Terrible things happened.
01:23Really terrible things.
01:24People were like, she's a bad person. She slept with her best friend's boyfriend. Sorry.
01:29It happens.
01:30If we're each other's first, then we'll be linked forever.
01:32You guys have broken up like 10,000 times.
01:35Never long enough to count.
01:37When really traumatic things happen to people, they're usually very angry.
01:41That's one of the things I really love about the storyline for Shauna is that it feels very grounded in reality.
01:48Losing her baby in the wilderness and all this terrible stuff, people are like, she beat up Lottie.
01:53It's like, well, Lottie stood in front of her and said, well, take it.
01:56Too bad, Lottie.
01:58Well, guess what? She seems to like it.
02:00I don't know. Anyway, I think people are too hard on Shauna.
02:03And people are very judgmental about cheating. I know cheating is terrible.
02:07People really don't like cheating.
02:08But people really, they'll never forgive.
02:10It's like Jackie would have stayed with Jif.
02:12We've got to get you to say Jif as many times as possible because it really makes me happy.
02:17Okay, this one is from Tabicha.
02:20Or Tabicha. Or Tabicha?
02:22Not the song choice. Laughing my ass off.
02:25This trailer is so good too.
02:27Though I am stressed as hell now.
02:29If Mari or Akilah don't make it through this season, you'll be hearing from my lawyers.
02:33Also, adult Misty stabbing Shauna and adult Ty straight up smothering a guy.
02:37The adult timeline might be just as crazy as the teen one this season.
02:41What song is that? I've never listened to it with sound.
02:43Is it like the Goo Goo Dolls?
02:46For f**k's sake. Some of these songs that we have to f**king listen to.
02:50I'm sorry, but Live was never cool.
02:53And when it was, when it came out in high school, when I was in high school and that Live song,
02:58everyone was like, well dorks, I love Live.
03:01And then we come to shoot that scene and everyone's like, I love this song, it's so amazing.
03:05And I was like, what are you talking about? Amnesia?
03:08I love that song.
03:09No, you don't.
03:11I kind of do though.
03:14Misty is very much trying to have the whole theme for this character.
03:19She just wants to have friends.
03:21And when Natalie dies, she then looks to Shauna to be her friend.
03:28Don't do that.
03:29And that's not happening.
03:31No, not a good place to look.
03:33So leads to lots of trouble.
03:34Oh yeah.
03:36Misty really thought the wilderness was going to choose her to be the new leader.
03:40From Forbidden Han.
03:43Yeah, I guess she did.
03:45Probably.
03:47But I also don't know that she, I don't know that Misty actually wants to be a leader.
03:52I feel more like Misty is much happier being like a right hand man or just a very important follower.
04:01I thought you'd be more excited to see me.
04:03She just wants to be in the mix.
04:05And I don't think she'd ever choose a position that would bring on any kind of jealousy or envy or any of that kind of thing.
04:13I think being a leader is an isolating position.
04:16And even though she maybe can't intellectually work that out for herself,
04:19I think she has the instinct to understand that she'd rather be part of the group.
04:24See what they're saying to us? More observations?
04:27I just like the usernames.
04:29I know, me too.
04:30Oh, this is a normal name.
04:32These are at Lila Celentano.
04:35Those are my favourite frozen raviolis, Celentano.
04:38They're delicious.
04:40If they had to eat any of their fellow castmates in real life, how would they want them prepared?
04:45Like Melanie Linsky Tartare, Sophie Thatcher Grilled.
04:49That just made me sick.
04:51That made me sick as well. It's early in the morning.
04:53It's a little bit much. I think you'd have to make jerky out of people in order to actually eat them.
04:57So practical.
04:59I was just thinking what would be the best way.
05:01So practical.
05:02You've got to go with jerky.
05:03Because then you can't recognise what the meat is.
05:05I haven't eaten meat since I was ten years old.
05:08I think I'd die. I think I'd throw up.
05:11You probably wouldn't do so well with human meat as your first reintroduction to meat.
05:21She wants us to.
05:22I loved the way they made it like a bacchanal.
05:25I thought that was so smart.
05:27I loved that too. It was so beautiful.
05:30And grounded in something real and that we understand from mythology and psychologically.
05:37There's a whole explanation and tie for the idea of the bacchanal.
05:42And I thought that was really smart.
05:44I think that's one of the things that makes our show good and work.
05:48Is that most of the things, as extreme and insane as they are, they're grounded in something real.
05:56You have so many by the way. Look at that.
05:59Well, I'm not going to get through all of them.
06:00You've got to get through all of them.
06:01Alright, I'll start opening while you're reading so I'm prepared.
06:04Alright, great. Sounds good.
06:08But it's long.
06:09It's long.
06:10Dylan has a lot of thoughts.
06:11I totally think that Shauna is the scariest of all.
06:16This literal psychopath over here.
06:21What?
06:22I mean, sociopath or something.
06:24I'm harmless.
06:26Okay, well, I totally think that Shauna is the scariest of all.
06:29I do think she loves Kelly and Jeff as much as she's able.
06:32And I think her character is designed to illustrate, among other things, how trauma can limit and warp our capacity for connection.
06:38Yeah.
06:39It seems like Shauna limits her closeness with others because she's afraid she'll hurt them or they'll end up hurt because of her.
06:46Yeah, see, listen, I got a little testy at the beginning, but that was a really good insight.
06:53That was insightful and fair.
06:55Very fair. Very fair. Great insight. Absolutely. Yeah, you're right.
06:59It's an interesting journey, this season.
07:02I feel like Shauna's really trying hard to do her best, but it's impossible.
07:10So it kind of ends up falling apart a little bit.
07:14It's a really interesting journey, but I love those relationships.
07:19I love working with them.
07:20I really think we're going to be okay.
07:23Yeah, I agree.
07:25Yeah.
07:27My little pretend family.
07:28My daughter came to work one day, though, and saw me do a scene with Warren and she lost it.
07:33No way.
07:34She was like, who is this man?
07:35I was like, oh, it's my pretend husband.
07:37She was like, Daddy.
07:38That is too funny.
07:39I know. I was like, oh, God, sorry.
07:42She loves my husband's pretend wife.
07:44Oh, well.
07:45Loves her.
07:46Double standards, huh?
07:47Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
07:48So, this one is from, I mean, I don't know how to say this.
07:55The Aguirre?
07:59Aguirre?
08:00The Aguirre?
08:0189.
08:02That's where I've decided it's The Aguirre.
08:0489.
08:05Did anyone catch how Misty is totally sporting TF?
08:11Oh, the f***?
08:12Did anyone catch how Misty is totally sporting the f*** out of adult Nat's jacket?
08:16She's definitely on a revenge tour against the other YJ.
08:19Yes, Misty does wear Natalie's jacket in tribute and as a way to be close to her this whole season.
08:29And it's my coach jacket that I've had for 14 years that was just stolen out of my car when my car was broken into and all smashed up in front of my house.
08:38So, really upsetting.
08:41No.
08:42Yeah, that jacket.
08:43Just recently?
08:44Yeah, last week.
08:45Oh, my God.
08:46Uh-huh.
08:47Very upsetting, but coach has said they're going to make me another one.
08:49Yeah, and it's all over the season because I wear it the whole season.
08:52That was your own jacket?
08:53Yeah, yeah.
08:54Motorcycle jackets are tough to find a good one that fits you and especially, like, I'm very small and so they're all always too big or crazy.
09:02We're so small that you can't fit a sweater under a motorcycle jacket?
09:06Who are they for?
09:09The tiny ones with the skinny arms where you can't put a sweater under?
09:12Yeah.
09:13And you're like, why would I be wearing this jacket with, like, a bra?
09:15No.
09:16This is so stupid.
09:17Anyway, so the coach jacket was perfect.
09:19Yeah.
09:20But I'll be getting a new one.
09:21This is my story.
09:23I think at the beginning of the season she's still kind of shell-shocked from killing Natalie and she's trying very hard to grieve and to connect to her grief, but she can't.
09:35So then she does go to Natalie's storage unit and that's when she discovers the jacket and that propels her into having a bit of a cathartic experience and connecting to her grief.
09:47And then her reaction to her grief is then to sort of question the other relationships in her life.
09:52She's so good this season.
09:54It's, like, always amazing.
09:56Always amazing, but, like…
09:58Well, that's very nice.
10:00You know you're always good.
10:02I always feel condescending complimenting people that I think are more talented than me.
10:06So that's why I never do it.
10:07Are you joking?
10:08That's why I never do it, because I'm like, who the f*** am I to tell anyone?
10:10But, anyway.
10:11Well, then I feel condescending.
10:12No!
10:13Stop!
10:14That wasn't…
10:15No, no, no, but you're just so…
10:16No.
10:17It's, like, crazy.
10:18I'm just explaining why I'm terrible at these compliments exchanges.
10:20There are some scenes that are just, like…
10:24I feel like I should have taken another one.
10:26Why?
10:27Why am I having a feeling about this one?
10:28Really?
10:29Mm.
10:30Yes, we're finally getting an explanation behind why Nat and Shauna do not get along in the adult timeline.
10:36Are we?
10:37Yeah, I guess so.
10:38Oh, yeah.
10:39Yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:40It's always tricky for us because the whole thing has happened and is over in our timeline, obviously.
10:46Some things have not been written or filmed or decided yet.
10:49So, some things you're sort of making up.
10:53Some things I will go to them and say, this is a feeling I'm having or a decision I want to make.
10:58Is that right?
10:59And they'll sometimes confirm.
11:01Yeah, it's always a bit of a complicated thing to figure out.
11:05We can't get too caught up in worrying about all the added stuff because you've already done those episodes.
11:12You've already done those scenes.
11:13Like, you just have to try to figure out a way moving forward to mix all that in.
11:19Yeah, and they wrote some tension between me and Juliet, you know.
11:25So, we played that.
11:27And, yeah, you don't need to know exactly where it's come from.
11:33Watching Yellow Jackets.
11:34Like, I can read.
11:35I can't read this morning.
11:36I'm so sorry.
11:37Watching Yellow Jackets is so fun when Misty, Ty, and Shauna are your fave characters.
11:43From user Nasty J Snow.
11:46That's very nice.
11:48That's nice.
11:49Yeah.
11:50We all like working together.
11:51We do.
11:52We love it.
11:54I do feel for the ADs on those days.
11:57Yeah.
11:58Yeah.
11:59We always have a pretty good time.
12:00We do.
12:01Except for when we're stuck in a car endlessly.
12:03Yeah.
12:04Or a sharing shack.
12:05Or a sharing shack.
12:06Oh, my God.
12:07The sharing shack.
12:08Nightmare.
12:09Tough days.
12:10It was so hot.
12:11It was hot.
12:12And very small.
12:13They covered us.
12:14Like, they covered the shit out of it.
12:15God, you're just filming it over and over and over.
12:17That's when that thing happened.
12:19Oh, yeah.
12:21Well, we always joke about how awful we look in the show.
12:24Should I not tell this?
12:25It's not a good story.
12:26It's not worth it.
12:27Anyway, they took forever to shoot this scene.
12:30We were, like, in a circle.
12:31And one of the DPs comes over, and they're like,
12:34Sorry it's taking so long.
12:35It's just all the beauty lighting.
12:37And I was like, I'm so sorry.
12:40Did you just say beauty lighting?
12:42Because we've all seen what we look like in this show.
12:45And there's no fucking beauty lighting.
12:47I'm not saying that we have a problem with the way we look.
12:50I'm just saying don't tell me that you're doing beauty lighting.
12:53I've seen the show.
12:55I want us to look like real people.
12:57Me too.
12:58Yeah.
12:59Also, those children don't need beauty lighting.
13:01No.
13:02They're gorgeous.
13:03There's crap all over their faces.
13:04God.
13:05Trying to make them look like they're going through it is very difficult.
13:08Thank you for opening some fan mail with us.
13:10Be sure to watch Yellow Jackets streaming on Paramount Plus with Showtime.
