A lack of consistency as of late…

00:00Charlie, looking at West Brom and the massive inconsistency since Tony Mowbray has come in.
00:07I mean, well, it goes probably even further than that.
00:10Obviously, they had the huge run of draws in the championship as well this season.
00:15And then, you know, he comes in and they lose away and they win 5-1 at home and they've had some fantastic results, some great moments.
00:23But it's just not that consistency that you feel that any championship club needs to make sure they're in the playoffs.
00:30That's what the playoffs is all about, is being rewarded for your consistency throughout the season and those tough periods.
00:36So how do you sort of summarise West Brom at the moment?
00:38What do they need to ensure that they are, you know, there or thereabouts when it comes to crunch time and that those playoffs are decided?
00:47It's a really bizarre situation, really, because, as you said, they have been so inconsistent.
00:52They were almost more consistent before with their draws, as much as it was a boring time.
00:57So many nil-nils here and there, not many goals scored whatsoever, but at least there were some points coming on the board.
01:02Technically, if you win one and then you lose one, you're picking up three from those two games rather than two points.
01:08But it's just win-loss, win-loss at the moment.
01:12The draw against Millwall as well, not a good enough result, really.
01:15The Blackburn game was a frustrating one.
01:18Having been so much better in the first half, going to lose that 1-2-0 was really quite poor.
01:24Mowbray incredibly disappointed with the way they defended from set pieces.
01:27The injuries haven't helped.
01:29Kyle Bartley is a really important player for Mowbray, someone who he wants to be leading that defence out from the back, winning every header where possible and having that kind of course the team.
01:39Losing Alex Palmer in the transfer window as well.
01:41We saw how incredibly the goalkeeper did for Ipswich's new club against Aston Villa recently.
01:46He was so important to Albion and how they can push on from that basis I was talking about and go forwards and attack.
01:53But they have got some really good new attackers now.
01:55Adam Armstrong and Will Lancashire, I think, will be two very important players on loan from Premier League clubs before the end of the season.
02:02Greater Dean Garner, Mowbray's had a few one-to-ones with him and he's been talking about how he might be able to get back to his best.
02:09He's like a kid on a playground trying to take on players and have a bit of fun.
02:13I think you need a bit of flair at times like this.
02:15There's so much pressure going on at the football club.
02:18So much frustration from the supporters as well because it's been going on for a few years now, just tantalisingly close to getting back to the Premier League.
02:25But with so many teams in there like Coventry and Bristol, Sheffield Wednesday, Watford, Middlesbrough dropped off a little bit but probably will pick back up again.
02:33West Brom need to get some consistency and they need to get it fast.
02:36Do you feel like there's any sort of overriding factor that they're lacking at the moment, whether it's a leader?
02:42Obviously, they lost out on Josh Madger as well. He was firing in the goals.
02:47I think, yeah, you mentioned Madger and there's Daryl Dekay as well.
02:51They're both working their way back to fitness.
02:53I think maybe having that added dimension of an aerial threat in the box, once they come back, that just gives them a bit more of an option.
03:00I spoke to Mowbray about that actually. I asked him and he said that he's looking forward to having them back because it gives them that extra option up top.
03:06So I think they'll make a difference. It's just how quickly can they get back and will it be soon enough?
