JP and BMitch discuss the future of the New York Giants with Giants reporter Pat Leonard. He believes drafting Shedeur Sanders could create a path for Deion to become the head coach before too long.

00:00are a third, right? You know, the word is, yeah, they're third. Titans are one. Browns
00:04are two. The word is that Shane loves Shadour, that the giants loves Shadour. Um, they obviously,
00:11they have a high opinion of Cam Ward's talents too. I do think the Titans, I don't know,
00:16they've thrown up a lot of signs that they want to trade back from one. We'll see if
00:19they actually do. They also need a quarterback. The Browns need a quarterback at two JP. I
00:24to answer your question, if job preservation was not an issue, which of course it is in
00:30the NFL, especially for the giants, there wasn't an issue. I think the best path for
00:34them is to take the best player there. And it's probably an Abdul Carter. Honestly, I
00:39would rather it be an offensive lineman if I were the giants, but you know, if it's Travis
00:43Hunter or whatever, I think you just need talent. They don't have a lot of talent on
00:48their team. I think the cheap veteran plus the number three pick being a stud position
00:55player, plus maybe a second or third round quarterback where you can get in and develop
01:00is the right team building way to go. Let's see if they actually do that. Does Joe Shane
01:04want to deal with Deon? Well, I'm glad you said that because let's be honest. The second,
01:13if the giants drafted Shadour Sanders with Brian D'Abel, potentially not even lasting
01:17six games this fall, depending on how it goes, Deon Sanders immediately becomes a candidate
01:23to be the giant's next head coach. Wow. Now, you know, would they hire him? Would he actually
01:29leave Colorado? He threw up a lot of flares this off season to kind of test the market.
01:34I'm not saying the giants would do it. I'm just saying, he's already said on the record
01:39that if he left for the NFL, it would be to coach his son. You know, D'Abel is dead man
01:44walking right now, as far as the coaching carousel goes. You know that? Yeah. And I,
01:49I think you make a great point. If Deon's not the coach, listen, he's very outspoken.
01:53Are you fun to listen to? Right. He knows what he's talking about. Are you, you know,
01:58if he's Colorado's head coach out there, let's say Shadour doesn't start week one and Deon
02:04starts talking out in Colorado about my son's not starting what's going on or it's week
02:08six and he throws two interceptions and the coach says something publicly about, we got
02:11to stop turning the ball over. Just becomes like a slippery slope there. It does. All
02:16right. Now I'm going to make sure I got you quoted correctly. Cause that's a tweet waiting
02:19to happen. Pat. I got, if the giants end up drafting Shadour Sanders, then eventually
02:25Deon Sanders becomes a major contender to make sure you get this right. JP, we don't
02:28want you missing. I'm asking him. I would say, here's what I would say. I would say
02:33if D'Abel doesn't, if D'Abel doesn't last, all right, let's start here. We don't have
02:40to tweet it, dude. It gets complicated. No, you can tweet it. No, I've written it. No,
02:43for sure. Joe Shane and D'Abel are both under pressure going into this season. But when
02:50I listened to John Mara standing there right in front of him on breakup day, even though
02:56he was saying none of it was good enough, it sounded to me like he had lost patience
03:01more so with the coach than the general manager.
03:03I could be, I could be wrong about that. I do feel though, that Shane has some stronger
03:09kind of tethers and tentacles in there. Mara is very enamored with how he runs the draft
03:15and runs the personnel process helps that that draft last year was really good. Go figure.
03:20So, so that being the case, you know, he's also asked able to give a play calling, do
03:25all those kinds of things. I think that D'Abel is on a hotter seat and if D'Abel gets fired
03:32and Shane is still here, I believe, yes, I believe Deion Sanders would become a candidate
03:41to be the next head coach, assuming they draft Shadour.
