00:00And one thing we always remind people, the NFL salary cap just continues to go up, up, and up.
00:07Projected estimates for the 2025 league year set the salary cap somewhere between $277.5 million
00:16to $281.5 million. A large gap, but DRS, just two years ago, the 2023 NFL season,
00:25the salary cap was just shy of $225 million. We are going to be up by over $50 million
00:33in a two-year window. It is why we see record-setting historic NFL contracts,
00:41off-season after off-season after off-season, because that salary cap continues to increase.
00:48It's really good for teams that are really good. The reason I say that is,
00:51if you have a couple free agents, let's just take a look at the Philadelphia Eagles, for instance.
00:54A couple guys they would like to re-sign, just got even more money under the cap to bring them
00:59back. Do you know what hurts? When they go, ooh, look at the Patriots, $100 million in cap to spend.
01:04Yeah, you do have to spend it, but that doesn't mean you're going out and signing
01:06mid-level wideouts to big-time money, because you have to spend it on those guys.
01:11So I know what it looks like, saying, hey, I love the cap going up here. That really hurts
01:15the bad football teams. I'm sorry, because an already limited pool of free agents,
01:19now you're spending all of that money on guys that are like, I guess he can help us out.
01:23And that number two wideout, you're now paying number one money. And Sam Darnold,
01:27we needed a quarterback. Now we're paying him like he's Jalen Hurts and or Patrick Holmes.
01:32You see where I'm going with this thing here? The salary cap going up is fantastic for the players,
01:36but not necessarily for the teams that are actually looking to improve. You actually,
01:39if you're a team with salary cap money out there, like, let's just say the Chicago Bears
01:43or the England Patriots, you'd love the cap to go down 40 million bucks. Like, oh, we're the only
01:47ones with money to spend. We can pay whoever we want now at this point. So buyer beware.
01:52It sounds great, but get ready for this. Just like the NBA a couple of years ago,
01:55when they started to hit that new money bums, we're getting a hundred million dollar contracts
01:59in the NBA. This is a new life. You're going to see marginal guys sign for monster money,
02:04which also is going to upset the Apple car from some of those guys that signed just two years ago
02:08who are superstars. So lock in baby, the money's here. People are going to be upset and overpaid
02:13at the same time.
