00:00Previously on The Flip Off.
00:03Try yourself to sleep last night?
00:05I'm so annoyed.
00:06It definitely sucks that I lost the kitchen challenge.
00:09You owe us some money.
00:10Tarek's ego has become even more inflated.
00:13See you later, second place.
00:15We have to win.
00:16So I have a plan.
00:20I'm going to bring in two judges.
00:22My mom and Tarek's mom.
00:24Holy macaroni.
00:27Oh my gosh, this is so nice.
00:29I know which one I think I prefer.
00:32The winner is...
00:35One Story House.
00:38Probably going to go three for three.
00:39If I take the entire thing, it's going to shut him up for a while.
00:59Oh, she's here.
01:02Hello.
01:03Hi.
01:04How are you feeling?
01:05Fine.
01:07How are you feeling?
01:08Did you sleep last night?
01:09I was so happy.
01:11Thinking about that massive loss.
01:14These two are so annoying.
01:15I have to keep them focused or their gloating could go on literally all day long.
01:19Who picks what? I pick the room?
01:21You pick the room.
01:22So what are you thinking?
01:23We already did the kitchen in the primary, so I'd say naturally it makes sense that we do the living room.
01:28And then we pick the judge.
01:29You guys know who you're picking?
01:31We don't know yet. I'll tell you in like...
01:32No, no, no. We're not going to tell her nothing.
01:35What? You have to.
01:36We're telling her who the judge is so that...
01:38Oh, there's rules now?
01:39That was your rule.
01:40There are no rules.
01:45Oh, look at that.
01:48Okay, hey, you.
01:51Oh, look how pretty that room is.
01:53Is this your house?
01:54Why would I ever show you my house?
01:56That is your house.
01:58It is pretty.
01:59We have to mess with Christina, so we had to make a slideshow of the winning space to rub it in her face.
02:05Wow, is that a custom closet?
02:07Oh, wow.
02:08I mean...
02:09I wish I had the budget for that.
02:11Wow.
02:12We're spending more on this house than we would if it was a normal flip.
02:15But I do believe it's going to pay off when we go to sell it.
02:19Good time to show you what real design is.
02:22Oh, my gosh.
02:25Is that a shelf in our bathroom?
02:27Is that a crack?
02:29Now you sound like Heather.
02:31Showing me these photos was a huge mistake.
02:34Now I know exactly what I'm up against, and I also know that they are spending way more money on this flip than I am.
02:40It's a living room?
02:41Yes.
02:42And we have two weeks to complete it?
02:43Two weeks, yep.
02:44Okay.
02:45FYI, I have a staircase in my living room, so it has to be part of it.
02:49You guys don't have stairs.
02:51You're one story.
02:52Whoa, whoa, whoa.
02:53No, no, it's inside my living room.
02:54There's nothing I can do about it.
02:55Okay, fine.
02:56We'll include the stairs if you tell us who your partner is.
02:59Oh, my God, you guys.
03:00You have a partner?
03:01I'm not saying anything.
03:02No deal.
03:03I never said I had a partner from the start.
03:06Well, I had one, but he doesn't count.
03:09I don't know about this.
03:15I'm fine with it.
03:16Fine.
03:17All right, I got things to do.
03:19Are we good?
03:20Oh, checkbook.
03:21We won another $2,000.
03:22I just can't keep up with what I need for the next space,
03:25so we figured cash or a check will do.
03:28God, this feels good.
03:29Who do you want me to make it out to?
03:31The world's greatest flipper.
03:36Picture.
03:37Oh, picture.
03:38No, picture.
03:39Oh, my God, no.
03:40Bye.
03:41Go on, hurry, hurry, get it.
03:42Get out of here.
03:43Oh, my God.
03:44You get it?
03:45Yes.
03:46Look at your smile.
03:47I've never seen you this happy.
03:52I feel like we need to change our strategy a little bit,
03:54so let's have a seat outside.
03:56I called my team together to have a meeting at my house
03:58because clearly something isn't working.
04:00Here's what happened yesterday.
04:02It was a bad defeat because they went more high end.
04:04I saw the pictures.
04:05It was beautiful.
04:06They are staging their house like we
04:08would stage one of our $2 or $3 million houses.
04:11Him and I flipped together for many years,
04:13and he never would have put this much money
04:16into a million dollar flip, ever, ever, ever.
04:19But they want to beat me.
04:20They want to beat me.
04:21We've done a great job saving in the big spaces,
04:23but I feel like at this point, I'm
04:25ready to spend some money because I just
04:29cannot keep losing to them.
04:31We got to get the knives out?
04:32Yes.
04:34I went into this with a strategy of outflipping Tarek,
04:37spending as little money as possible,
04:40and that way I could win the ROI.
04:42Now out of the remaining rooms, the living room
04:44is actually the one that's going to provide the most ROI,
04:47so it makes sense to spend more on the space.
04:50We have a plan?
04:51Yeah.
04:52When?
04:53When it all costs.
05:01Ever since our very first design meeting eight weeks ago,
05:04we knew that there were some issues in the living room
05:07that we really needed to address.
05:09There was an old fireplace that just wouldn't
05:11go with our modern design, the step
05:13down from the rest of the house, and we
05:15wanted to add some big bifold doors that
05:17open to the outside.
05:19We got demo out of the way months ago,
05:22so now we can spend the entire two weeks making the space
05:25functional and beautiful.
05:33Moving the kitchen into the old living room
05:35was necessary in the first challenge
05:37to make the most out of the small floor plan.
05:39I wanted the first room you walk into to be the living room,
05:42not the kitchen, but the old kitchen space
05:44was cramped, so we needed to tear down some walls
05:47and open the space up.
05:54And today, we're down to the studs.
06:06We're still talking about opening this up.
06:08We said we wanted to do bifold glass door that
06:10leads you out to the pool.
06:12But that's pricey.
06:13So we need to have some alternatives.
06:15So the original option was to make a bifold door that
06:18comes across 16 feet, which is basically from that post
06:21to me right about here, north of $11,000
06:25just for the door itself.
06:26And then we have, obviously, the framing that goes with it,
06:28the demo of the fireplace.
06:30So then we go to a 12-foot slider
06:32that opens in the middle, operable, operable,
06:36fixed glass, fixed glass.
06:37By changing from the huge bifold to the 12-foot slider,
06:42what would the total savings be?
06:44You're really coming down to $20,000 door or $6,000 door.
06:48That's a lot.
06:49OK.
06:50Major.
06:51It depends on what we do on that wall.
06:52I don't want to just do staging, or we're
06:54not going to win this challenge.
06:55We want to stay on a good roll.
06:57We want to win again.
06:58So we have to do something cool on that wall, something
07:01that's custom and built in.
07:02But it can't be a lot of money.
07:04If not, we're not going to win.
07:06In order to save money, we're going to remove the fireplace
07:09and go with a smaller 12-foot sliding
07:11door that leads out to the pool instead
07:13of the big 16-foot bifold door.
07:15We do have a nice big window on this wall,
07:17so we'll have plenty of natural light coming in,
07:19and we can place a seating area below it.
07:21On the opposite wall, we'll create a custom built-in
07:24entertainment center.
07:25In order to accomplish all of that,
07:27we'll need to spend approximately $20,000.
07:30But that's what we have to do to win this.
07:32It has to feel luxury, because the way
07:34we win this challenge is honestly
07:36with that wall right there.
07:37All right.
07:38We got a plan.
07:40So this whole area is going to be pushed back to,
07:43like, right here, right?
07:44This will all be open.
07:45Because it feels so disjointed now,
07:46and that's why the room feels so small.
07:48It's going to feel a lot bigger with that gone.
07:50So there is something I want to add in here.
07:52I know we got rid of a fireplace that
07:54was in the old living room.
07:56I would love to bring a fireplace back.
07:58OK.
07:59I think that would add a huge impact in here,
08:01because I feel like if we don't have that,
08:03it's just going to be so basic.
08:04This over here is what needs a lot of love.
08:07Things looking rough.
08:08Because literally the first thing the buyers see
08:10when you come in the front door is the staircase.
08:12It's not the prettiest.
08:13So I feel like if we just spend some money here,
08:15instead of having it be an eyesore,
08:16it just becomes, like, kind of like a piece of art.
08:19This is the living room competition,
08:21but perfecting the entryway is the key to winning.
08:24We need to brighten up the space with windows by the doorway
08:27so when you walk into the house, the living room
08:30feels bigger and brighter.
08:31We'll put some extra storage below the stairs,
08:33replace the railing, tile the risers,
08:36and finish it all off with wood paneling.
08:38In the living room, we'll create a comfy sitting area
08:41with a fireplace and built-in bookcases
08:43that reflect the wood on the stairs.
08:45Because I'm doing two spaces, and I'm changing my strategy
08:49to spend more for this challenge,
08:51I'm budgeting $25,000.
08:53I think it's a great ROI, and I think we are going to win.
08:59Right now, our crew's removing the old fireplace
09:03and framing in the 12-foot slider.
09:06We're also upgrading the electrical panel
09:09in the corner of the living room.
09:15Outside of the competition against Christina,
09:17like, we have, like, 11 projects going right now.
09:19So before we go to Long Beach, we have to swing by or flip it,
09:22and I'm Hills, meeting some contractors,
09:24checking on progress.
09:25At the end of the day, we still have a business to run.
09:27Floor's going in.
09:29Whoo!
09:30I mean, this is coming out way better than I thought.
09:33Are you liking the size of the doors?
09:35No? You want to do something?
09:37I don't know. Let's talk. Let's look at the numbers.
09:40Like, we're way over budget.
09:41Oh, it's Brian. I think he's at Long Beach.
09:43Good news or bad news? What do you think?
09:45Bad news, always.
09:46What's up, Brian? You got good news or bad news?
09:49Um...
09:51We had to put in a new electrical panel.
09:54Mm-hmm.
09:55And as a result, the code states
09:58that within 36 inches of a panel,
10:01you cannot have a window.
10:02So in that great room area,
10:05we have to eliminate a window
10:08towards the back of the house in that corner
10:11and basically not have a lot of light.
10:13Just so I understand, once you get to the living room,
10:15the right wall's going to have no window.
10:17And even in the kitchen, we don't have windows.
10:19No windows at all.
10:24We have no light on that wall at all.
10:26We took out all the light on that side of the house now.
10:29In this part of the house, we have the kitchen and living room.
10:32The kitchen doesn't have any windows.
10:34The living room has one window and sliding door.
10:37Closing the window means the sliding door
10:39is the only source of natural light for both rooms.
10:43I hate even saying this,
10:45but maybe we're just going to have to do it.
10:47If we do bifold, we can get, what, 16-foot opening?
10:50If we go from the 12-foot sliding door
10:53to the 16-foot bifold door,
10:55we'll gain back a lot of natural light
10:57that we're losing from closing up the window.
10:59I definitely would need more time
11:01because I have to rip open all the framing.
11:03Are we talking, like, 2 extra days?
11:05What are we thinking?
11:07No, it's definitely going to be a week,
11:09and that would be pushing it.
11:11Oh!
11:13We're going to have to ask her for more time.
11:15I can't, I can't, I can't.
11:17We have to, or else we're not going to have enough time.
11:19If it's not finished, we lose.
11:21I hate asking her for anything.
11:23I really, really do. It really hurts my pride.
11:25Do you want to lose, or do you want to win?
11:28Let us, uh, let us call Christina,
11:30and we will call you back.
11:32Okay.
11:33All right, let's see if Miss Single's awake.
11:35It is 11.30.
11:37If we did a square 2x2 instead...
11:40Tarek.
11:42What does he want?
11:44FaceTime or normal.
11:46Hello?
11:47Heather has a question for you.
11:49Ha-ha.
11:50Hi.
11:52Hi.
11:53Okay, so...
11:55Okay, I need more time in the living room,
11:58about an extra week, please.
12:00What?
12:02The number one flipper in the world needs more time.
12:04Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
12:06Whoa, excuse me.
12:07She asked for more time.
12:09I didn't ask for, you know, I don't need more time.
12:11The number one flipper in the world needs more time?
12:13I don't need more time.
12:15Forget it, forget it.
12:16We don't need more time.
12:17We're not doing it.
12:18We're not doing it.
12:19Stop.
12:20Okay.
12:21Please, can I have more time in the living room?
12:23What do you want?
12:24What do you need?
12:25Oh, she needs a lot of...
12:29Hmm.
12:30Hold on.
12:31BRB.
12:32Okay, first of all...
12:34Oh, my God.
12:36The gloating.
12:37I know.
12:38You know how many times he's talked on me
12:40for needing more time at the very beginning?
12:42After going through a divorce?
12:44I know.
12:45Nice.
12:46I'm trying.
12:47We're trying to get something right now.
12:49Stop talking smack.
12:51So, I mean, we could ask to see the inside of the house,
12:53but I don't really feel like going back and forth with him.
12:55I want to do something more to, like, mess with him.
12:57Yeah.
13:00Is...
13:01Hold on.
13:06What?
13:07Okay, so...
13:09You know how...
13:11Josh kept that really hideous...
13:13Oh!
13:14...table?
13:15Oh, my God, yes.
13:16This table looks good underneath.
13:18Crazy enough, I'm gonna save this table.
13:20I'm gonna repurpose it.
13:22Oh, you're gonna give it to them?
13:23Yeah.
13:24And they have to incorporate it in the space.
13:26Ah!
13:27In the living room?
13:28Yes, yes.
13:29Hell yeah.
13:30Okay.
13:31Hello?
13:32Hi.
13:33Okay, so...
13:35When Josh was part of this project,
13:38he kept something from the house,
13:42so we have a deal if you take it.
13:45Wait, wait, wait.
13:46Wait.
13:47He kept something from your house to keep in your house?
13:50Yeah, so you have to take it,
13:52and you have to incorporate it into the living room.
13:55Yes, we'll do it. We'll make the deal.
13:57All right, bye.
13:58I'm just saying, no.
13:59We have a deal.
14:00No, we don't have a deal yet.
14:01If it's...
14:02Ah!
14:03It's a deal.
14:04I already made the executive decision.
14:05We need it.
14:07Ah!
14:08Oh, my God.
14:09I would die if we had to actually use that thing.
14:11It's the freaking, like...
14:13The plastic-wrapped chair?
14:14The plastic-wrapped chair?
14:15Wait, there's one that's, like, really atrocious
14:18that's got, like, syrup burns in it.
14:20Yes.
14:21And you know what the best part about this is?
14:22It won't have time to reupholster that.
14:24Oh, you're right.
14:25Oh, my God, it's so evil.
14:27I love it.
14:29During our extra week,
14:31we were able to take down the framing for the 12-foot slider
14:34and expand it for our new 16-foot bifold.
14:37We're framing that in,
14:39as well as closing up that window in the living room,
14:42and this means that we can get our drywall installed.
14:45Wow, we lost a huge window.
14:48We're on a ton of light.
14:50Okay, well, I mean, I'm glad we switched to bifolds, then.
14:52Yeah, it would have been way too dark.
14:56Come on, look at this.
14:58Are you happy we spent the extra money?
14:59Oh, so happy. I mean, come on.
15:01But now that we lost that window,
15:03we're going to have just a blank wall.
15:05So do we paint it, keep it simple,
15:07or I brought this to show you.
15:09The peeling stick.
15:11It'd be this whole thing up into the cabinets.
15:13And remember, the entertainment center's going to be
15:15the same color as our white oak cabinets in the kitchen.
15:18So it gives it, like, a textured look.
15:20I feel like it has a lot of purple.
15:22Some gray, grayish purple.
15:24I just have a feeling it's going to be a lot bolder
15:27than we're thinking.
15:28Let's go bold. Go bold or go home.
15:30But do we want to be bold with that is what I'm saying.
15:32We don't want this to be the bold.
15:34We spent a fortune on an entertainment center.
15:36This is going to be bold.
15:38Then we have nothing over here besides staging.
15:40I'll be honest, it's not my favorite.
15:43We have this big wall because we closed up the window.
15:46Right now we have nothing for this wall.
15:48Your designs, they're getting bolder and bolder.
15:51This one is pushing the envelope a little much for me.
15:54Listen, I'm not saying that it's going to look good.
15:56What I'm saying is let's try it
15:58because it could be an inexpensive solution
16:00to a blank wall.
16:01We went into this challenge trying to save money,
16:03and now we're spending on the bifold doors
16:05and the entertainment center.
16:07If we want to win this, we have to take some risks.
16:09How much is it going to cost to do that?
16:11About $500, and that's including installation.
16:13Because it's $500, I'm willing to do it
16:15because I don't want to spend thousands of dollars on wallpaper.
16:17And if we hate it, we'll rip it out.
16:19And I'll pay $500 of my own money.
16:21What?
16:25The bifold doors are going in.
16:28And with that complete, we can paint the room,
16:30do the lime wash wall,
16:32and install the lower cabinets for our entertainment center
16:35while the cabinet maker builds the rest and ships them out.
16:43My crew is installing drywall and shelving.
16:50And when they finish that, the fireplace.
16:55We only have a few days left,
16:57so we're working on the progress
16:59to see if there's any last-minute tweaks
17:01that we need to make on the design
17:03before everything comes together.
17:05Hi.
17:07Hey.
17:09This is looking real weird.
17:11Is there no way to make that bigger?
17:13This is what we have?
17:15What are you going to put in there?
17:17Yeah, unfortunately, our pantry comes in to five foot.
17:19We need some structural framing still in there.
17:21Since I have such a small living room,
17:23I was hoping that the cubby
17:25would add additional points when it came to the use of space.
17:28It's a lot smaller than I thought it was going to be,
17:30and I feel like it would actually hurt me
17:32when it comes to the judging.
17:34We're down to the wire here.
17:39I don't like to say there's really nothing else we can do.
17:41I thought, like, maybe pull-out drawers,
17:43like, make it more interesting, but it would literally be this big.
17:45Like, we're going to fit, like, one soccer cleat?
17:47Yeah, that's sort of pointless.
17:49How hard is it to just ditch it?
17:51Easy. It's easier to ditch it than make it bigger.
17:53It's got to go.
17:55I feel like this needs more of a design.
17:57How much would it be to do, like,
17:59a chair rail of a fluted wood
18:02and then, like, a lime wash above it
18:05with, like, a really nice hand roll with maybe, like, a lid up?
18:07I would think around $1,500 to $2,000.
18:10Okay, let's do that for sure.
18:12Throughout this competition, I have spent my money responsibly.
18:15But now it's all about winning this.
18:18That way I can shut Tarek and Heather up.
18:20So then around the corner,
18:22we'll have the sofa here, two chairs,
18:24and that's going to be, like, game time in the moment,
18:26trying to figure out, like, spatially what works the best,
18:28because this is real small.
18:30Yeah, you're right.
18:32Speaking of furniture, Tarek and Heather had to ask for more time.
18:34And the trade-out was that they have to use
18:37something that Josh left behind in this house.
18:40I'm going to make them use the table and chairs
18:43in their living room space.
18:45Do you have time right now? Can we go drop that off at their house?
18:47Let's go.
18:49Oh, my God, is this thing going to survive the drive?
18:51I can't wait to see their face.
18:58Is this going to fall out, Michael?
19:00I can't lose any of these.
19:02It'll deliver all five.
19:04So the fact that we're, like, ambushing him at his own home,
19:06it's going to freak out.
19:11Uh-oh. Steve just texted.
19:13What'd he say?
19:15Steve is a good friend of ours. He's from Florida.
19:17He has a custom cabinet and woodworker.
19:19So he did the beautiful kitchen, he did the island.
19:22In our primary, he did the custom closet,
19:25and he's doing the entertainment center in our living room,
19:27which is going to be the focal point of that room.
19:29He is one of our secret weapons.
19:31Oh, no.
19:33It's worse.
19:35Hurricane Helene hits Florida real hard.
19:37We won't be able to make it back
19:39for probably another week or two.
19:41He sent a video. Whoa.
19:43Oh, s***.
19:45That's what I thought. Is everybody okay?
19:47He said it's really bad here, but we're all safe.
19:49Oh, my gosh. Wow.
19:51So if they got hit hard, there's probably so many people
19:53that got really messed up.
19:55Yeah.
19:57Why don't we donate something?
19:59Yeah, we got to donate the money.
20:01Yeah.
20:03We're trying to get the material to you,
20:05if you have someone who can finish it,
20:07but roads and airports are closed.
20:09They closed the airport? That's all custom.
20:11I'm just going to tell him, don't worry, we'll figure it out.
20:13Top priority is Steve's safety.
20:15Cabinets are second.
20:17Yeah, we're going to pivot.
20:19We are able to get the lower section built.
20:21It's not that wow factor that we are expecting,
20:23and we are counting on for our win.
20:25This is going to hurt us in the judging.
20:27It's going to be an incomplete
20:29unless we can somehow build something in three days.
20:31If she has a complete living room
20:33and ours is unfinished, we're not going to win.
20:35Ay-yi-yi.
20:37All right, how does this look?
20:39The problem is, there's just so much space.
20:41It looks rad.
20:43I mean, once we have the lights in, the TV,
20:45I mean, I still think it looks good.
20:47It's not that wow factor of the entertainment center.
20:49We're not going to have that,
20:51but honestly, standing here looking at this,
20:53this looks nice.
20:55I think this is nice enough to win.
20:57This looks gorgeous to me.
20:59Now even more, we cannot leave that wall blank,
21:01that accent wall,
21:03so hopefully the peel-and-stick works.
21:05Tape a nut, and then if we actually...
21:07Right there.
21:10All right, it looks like skeleton.
21:12It's a little too wild, right?
21:14So it looks like it has texture, but it doesn't.
21:16Now that we don't have our entertainment center,
21:18this has to be special.
21:20Let's pivot.
21:22But we already bought all the material, huh?
21:24You want to keep it?
21:26You want to lose the challenge?
21:28You want to go with wallpaper, then?
21:30Okay.
21:32So I have a few wallpapers that I saved from before
21:34that we are going to use towards this.
21:36Okay.
21:38This is like a certain...
21:40What?
21:42Why is she facing me?
21:44What's up, second place?
21:46Hi.
21:48Where are you guys?
21:50You know, one of our many flips,
21:52but today we're at the one that we keep beating you at on.
21:54This one?
21:56Bye.
21:58What's going on here?
22:00How does she know where our house is?
22:02That's my question.
22:04What?
22:06That's your trade.
22:08Is this Josh's bullsh...
22:10Oh, my God.
22:12There's no way I'm putting that crap in our house.
22:14No, that's disgusting.
22:16It's even covered in plastic.
22:18This is disgusting.
22:20You sent an item from your house that Josh was going to use.
22:22We're not using this.
22:24This is Michael.
22:26Are you the contractor or the new teammate?
22:28You're excited about this.
22:30I'm not doing it.
22:32I can see the glow in both your eyes.
22:34We're going to stage these chairs,
22:36and you guys are going to get a vision of what you're getting.
22:38It's got life left in it.
22:40He was going to use this in your house?
22:42For what?
22:44You're lucky he's gone. Oh, my God.
22:46It's very nice.
22:48Your attitude's horrible right now about this whole situation.
22:50Then why don't you guys take it back with you?
22:52How about that?
22:54A bigger question is, how did you find our house?
22:56Did you follow us?
22:58We have our ways.
23:00Hi, I was calling to check the status of an order.
23:02Make sure that it's going to the correct address.
23:04Okay, the address I have on file is
23:06Gardenia Ave, Long Beach.
23:08Wait, so what do we got to do?
23:10We have to take one piece?
23:12No, I never said one piece.
23:14I said it's a trade.
23:16Just like I let you run through our house,
23:18this is the trade.
23:20La mesa, por favor.
23:22Don't answer anything.
23:24He's an enemy.
23:26Band of amigos.
23:28I speak Spanish, too.
23:30This was fun.
23:32Pleasure doing business with you.
23:34I need to know who the judge is.
23:36Rule's a rule.
23:38Who's the judge?
23:40Amanda Smith, who I used to work with.
23:42Okay.
23:44Amanda is not only a friend, she is a designer,
23:46she is an artist, and she has impeccable taste.
23:48We know what she likes, what she doesn't like.
23:50I think she's really going to like the table.
23:52Wow.
23:54I don't like the fact that she knows where our house is.
23:56Now we have a dining table set
23:58that we have to do something with,
24:00and I have to find new wallpaper.
24:02There's a lot going on for this room.
24:04It's not turning out exactly like we wanted.
24:06We were supposed to save money on the living room,
24:08but it's starting to add up.
24:10I don't think we ever agreed to taking all this junk.
24:12This is fucked up.
24:20Hi, Brian.
24:22Hey.
24:24I'm solo today.
24:26We've got a lot of work to do.
24:28We've got a week and a bunch of other issues happening,
24:30so he's handling that.
24:32I'm pretty stressed, because there's a lot to do still.
24:34We have some wallpaper stuff going on.
24:36I love it.
24:38Some electricians here.
24:40So you'll get that hung.
24:42You'll get the sconces hung.
24:44The drawer is going to go in,
24:46so we're not going to have our uppers
24:48completely stuck in Florida because of the hurricane.
24:50We'll put up a larger TV, so maybe like an 85-inch TV,
24:52and then we're going to put, like, art pieces here
24:54that we're going to put in the garage.
24:56I don't know. I haven't decided yet.
24:58Who's the judge?
25:00So it's my friend Amanza. She is a designer.
25:02Her art is very, like, fun, colorful, eclectic.
25:04I know her style,
25:06but she does like fun design,
25:08so is ours fun enough for her?
25:10She likes color, so we're very beige, but it's okay.
25:12I don't know if it's enough to win, to be honest.
25:14It's going to be beautiful,
25:16but this would have been, like, the showstopper.
25:18It's just a matter of if it's finished enough for us to win.
25:20If not, we might get disqualified
25:22because we didn't finish our room,
25:24so just a matter of what she thinks.
25:26You better get some colorful accoutrement.
25:28♪♪♪
25:30♪♪♪
25:32I already have enough stress
25:34when it comes to finishing this living room on time,
25:36but now there's the added pressure
25:38of the judge being Heather's friend,
25:40so this whole thing is just, it's stressing me out.
25:42♪♪♪
25:44♪♪♪
25:46♪♪♪
25:48♪♪♪
25:50We still have kind of a lot to get done.
25:52Do you know who the judge is for the living room?
25:54Amanza?
25:56Of course Amanza's going to pick her friend.
25:58Yeah, obviously.
26:00How's this fair?
26:02Especially because it's not blind.
26:04Yeah.
26:06I wish we wouldn't have played so fair last time.
26:08I know. I'm pissed.
26:10I should have just brought my mom in and said,
26:12you like your grandkids more?
26:14I do think that Tariq and Heather
26:16are actually going to incorporate the table
26:18that we dropped off into their room.
26:20They don't have a choice, though.
26:22Exactly, but who knows?
26:24I want to know what they're going to do with five chairs.
26:26Hi, Christina.
26:28Thank you for the furniture.
26:30The table and chairs are basically unusable.
26:32They're broken.
26:34They have cigarette marks.
26:36They were in a hoarder house,
26:38and with this time frame,
26:40we can refurbish them,
26:42but we have a plan.
26:44Ah!
26:50So Tariq had a sneaky idea
26:52to create a little mulch.
26:54We thought we'd be able to hide it
26:56in our living room somewhere.
26:58Can you believe all that furniture looks like this?
27:00We just save it all.
27:02Thank you, Christina.
27:04What is your plan
27:06for setting this living room up here?
27:08Are we touching the carpet?
27:10Are we over the carpet? How is this thing sitting?
27:12Not past...
27:14The opening of those?
27:16Not past there.
27:18Okay, that looks so cute.
27:20It actually looks so much bigger in here
27:22with it right there.
27:24Plus, I feel like this open right here
27:26really showcases the fireplace.
27:28It's judging day, and thank goodness
27:30I have my partner back to help me stage.
27:32All right, this plastic is annoying, honey.
27:34We don't want handles on these drawers, right?
27:36I say we just install it.
27:38I don't want to get, like, you know,
27:40negative points for not finishing the work.
27:44Okay, so we're gonna stagger these.
27:48You got that on your own?
27:50I don't know.
27:52Kylie just walked away, said, good luck.
27:54Well, I don't think we can be much help.
27:56You got this. Just don't drop it and ruin our staircase.
27:58Or a nice lime-wash wall.
28:00Yeah, don't... or that.
28:02How do you think Tariq and Heather are gonna use
28:04I would like to see how they're gonna orientate
28:06their five random chairs.
28:08Christina should have said you have to stage it
28:10in your space.
28:12Then we would have to keep it a table.
28:14You have to be careful on the competition.
28:16What words do you use?
28:18So now, putting mulch inside of the flip.
28:20Make sure it's in the living room.
28:22That'll go away. It'll dry.
28:24How long do you think it'll take?
28:26Like, 30 minutes.
28:28Okay, well, I just don't know what time she's gonna be here.
28:30Look at those beautiful pleats.
28:32Wow.
28:34How's the orientation go? Tall or middle?
28:36Oh, my God, it looks so cute.
28:38We're gonna win, right?
28:40Yeah, I mean, I don't know what else we could have done.
28:42I have one last surprise. Go grab it out the back bedroom, please.
28:44Did you really make this happen?
28:46We're able to source Amanda's artwork
28:48from a real art gallery,
28:50and they lent it to us for the day.
28:52Hopefully, Tariq and Heather don't have that as well.
28:54But even if they do, it shows that we did our homework.
28:56Hurry!
28:58Hurry, babe.
29:04Oh, my gosh.
29:10Hey, Christina.
29:12It's your next judge, Amanda.
29:14It's Amanda.
29:16Time to stop work.
29:18Are we done?
29:20Yeah, we're done.
29:22I can't wait to see what you've done.
29:24Ah!
29:28Remember, calm, cool.
29:30Babe, she's my friend.
29:32I'm not gonna act weird.
29:34I think Amanda is going to be a fair judge.
29:36I don't think she's just gonna pick us to pick us.
29:38Our entertainment center, unfortunately, is not done,
29:40but I feel like it still looks beautiful
29:42and it still looks finished.
29:44I feel like it got hotter in here.
29:46It did.
29:48It's warm in here.
29:50Oof!
29:58Knock, knock.
30:00Hi.
30:02Hi, guys.
30:04Welcome to our house.
30:06Whoa!
30:08Confident and nervous.
30:10Confident and nervous.
30:12How are the babies?
30:14Babies are good. They run the house.
30:16Do you want to show her the befores?
30:18They used to step down right here.
30:20We raised that up.
30:22In the middle, the bifold right there was that huge, ugly fireplace,
30:24so we opened that entire thing up.
30:28The doors are a huge, huge transformation.
30:30You really opened it up,
30:32and you made it a lot more airy,
30:34and the light is really good.
30:36Also, we leveled up the ceilings.
30:38Got rid of the ceiling fan.
30:40I know you hate those.
30:42Ceiling fans are my pet peeve.
30:44There was one hiccup.
30:46We needed more time to finish the space,
30:48so we had to go to my ex-wife, Christina,
30:50and ask her for more time,
30:52and part of the rules are,
30:54if we ask for more time, we have to do something.
30:56We had to take the world's ugliest table
30:58and chairs you've ever seen,
31:00Heather threw it into, like, a stump grinder.
31:02Oh, my gosh.
31:04That's hilarious.
31:06This is a custom-built
31:08White Oak Entertainment Center.
31:10I like that you had it custom-built.
31:12Our guys who did our custom work
31:14weren't able to get back to finish our entertainment center
31:16because the hurricane that hit Florida.
31:18We had this bottom part.
31:20We only had literally a couple days
31:22to figure out, like, what else are we gonna do?
31:24I love how light and bright it is,
31:26but there's not a lot...
31:28What is this?
31:30This looks a little...
31:32We had a cord coming through
31:34because we are gonna do LED lights
31:36in our entertainment center.
31:38No, it's a new design trend
31:40where you pick one spot on a wall
31:42and you make it look a little weird.
31:44If I press on it, is there, like, a hidden door?
31:46I love the art.
31:48I mean, we had to get an Amanda Smith original.
31:50This is the most beautiful part of our house.
31:52Oh, wow.
31:54You guys get brownie points.
31:56Huh.
31:58This light fixture, I don't really understand,
32:00like, why it's over a table
32:02or what that corner is for.
32:04When we removed the window,
32:06I'm like, something has to go over there.
32:08It's just, I think there could have been
32:10something else, maybe more seating.
32:12It looks pretty,
32:14but I don't know if it's the best use of that space.
32:16Mm-hmm.
32:18I mean, there could have been a bigger piece of art.
32:20I mean, there are chances.
32:22It's true.
32:24You can announce the winner now if you'd like.
32:26It's gonna be tough.
32:28So are you going to Christina's now?
32:30I don't know.
32:32Maybe I've already been there.
32:34But we will see you at our house later.
32:36Yeah.
32:38Thank you. So glad you loved the winning space.
32:40And I heard Christina has bugs at her house.
32:42If you have any bug spray, you might want to...
32:44It went a little bit rockier than I was expecting.
32:46There were some things that she wasn't a huge fan of.
32:48I feel super confident.
32:50I'm gonna show Christina who the real flipper is.
32:52It's in the bag.
32:54Honey, she hated the white.
32:56Now I'm obsessing about this over here.
33:02Oh, my goodness.
33:04I think she's here.
33:06Knock, knock.
33:08Hi. Hello.
33:10Thanks for coming. Christina.
33:12Hi. Nice to meet you.
33:14You look so pretty.
33:16I'm gonna spend more money to beat Tariq and Heather.
33:18If Amanda doesn't love it,
33:20I don't even know how to do this competition in general.
33:22Okay. Let's get to it.
33:24So welcome to our home.
33:26This place was...
33:28Have you ever been to a hoarder house?
33:30No. Never. Okay.
33:32It was covered in filth and feces and raccoons.
33:34I don't know anything about filth.
33:36Yeah, right?
33:38Yikes.
33:40Wow.
33:42This looks amazing
33:44considering what I just heard.
33:46So where you're standing
33:48used to be the kitchen.
33:50Okay.
33:52Basically, we opened up a ton of walls.
33:54We moved the kitchen from here to here.
33:56And then the family room,
33:58living room, used to be back there,
34:00so we swapped.
34:02What's this?
34:04Oh, attention to detail.
34:06Oh, my gosh. Wait a minute.
34:08You have the actual piece.
34:10Bonus points.
34:12Did you buy that, or is this on loan?
34:14Well, for now, it's on loan, but, you know,
34:16I'll see how much money I have in my profit after this.
34:18Okay, this was the old entrance.
34:20It was once, like, a green carpet,
34:22and it's filth.
34:24♪♪♪♪
34:26There was a wall right here
34:28when you walked straight down this tiny hallway.
34:30So structurally,
34:32you removed this wall.
34:34So you did do
34:36quite a bit of structural work.
34:38It is such a tiny
34:40little living space.
34:44And this couldn't have
34:46been any different because you needed the support?
34:48For structural, we had to leave that.
34:50I put a little more money into the staircase
34:52because it is the first thing you see
34:54when you walk in the front door.
34:58So we added all the wood treatments,
35:00the lighting,
35:02but I really think that the lime wash adds
35:04that, like, the depth and the moody effect
35:06that makes it look really pretty,
35:08and then tied it back in over here to the fireplace.
35:10The detail on the fireplace is pretty.
35:12It makes the electric fireplace
35:14look really elevated.
35:16Can I have a minute by myself?
35:18And then I can take some notes.
35:20Can I go up?
35:22Yeah, go for it.
35:24Some of this
35:26doesn't look... The joinery, yeah.
35:28That was our last minute
35:30of staircase idea, so...
35:32Can they... Fill it, yeah.
35:34Fill that in and make it a little more tidy?
35:36And details are gonna be taken care of.
35:40Here, too.
35:42Craftsmanship needs a little
35:44tidying up.
35:46I've never judged a space with, like, people
35:48who want to make the...
35:50I want to be nice, but I'm like...
35:52Hearing Amanda's critiques,
35:54I'm taking those to heart because I actually respect her
35:56as a judge. All right, guys, I'll see you later.
35:58See you later. Thank you. Thank you.
36:00Thank you so much. Good luck.
36:02Thank you. Thanks. We need it. Vote for us.
36:04Let's just hope that we win
36:06because Tariq and Heather gloating, you're gonna lose your mind.
36:14You ready? I don't know.
36:16I feel like we're gonna win.
36:18I feel like we're gonna win.
36:20She's here with her
36:22contractor. What?
36:24Hi. What are you doing here? I brought my friend.
36:26I wasn't sure you guys were gonna show up.
36:28I thought you guys might have thrown her the towel
36:30before it even started. Oh, shut it.
36:32Did you incorporate our beautiful table? We did.
36:34Yeah, we refurbished it.
36:36Wood chipper.
36:38What? You didn't use the table?
36:40Oh, we used it. Mulch.
36:42No. R.I.P.
36:44Josh. Sorry.
36:46Tariq and Heather are cheating,
36:48but there are no rules.
36:50So is he your partner, then?
36:52Yeah. He's Michael. Okay.
36:54But is he here today for the judging? He is.
36:56Are you officially claiming Michael as your partner?
36:58He's Michael. It's Michael.
37:00So will you be contributing to our trip?
37:02No!
37:04Did you not tell him about the trip you're sending us on?
37:06Oh, God.
37:12Can you, like, not have the air on 48 degrees?
37:14Please talk him out. It's nice. Michael, is it nice in here?
37:16Amanda.
37:18Hello. Hi.
37:20Hi. Hi.
37:22All right.
37:24Let's get this thing started.
37:28So I brought you here today.
37:30I feel like we're at, like, a therapy session right now.
37:32Wouldn't be the first time.
37:34Going into it, I was like,
37:36how am I gonna not be biased?
37:38But it was very fair.
37:40Oh, jeez.
37:42Stop sounding good, Tariq.
37:44Make it as fair as you want.
37:463-0. Here we go.
37:48Great brown-nose point by having my artwork
37:50printed out and framed.
37:52I walked into Christina's space today,
37:54and there was an actual piece of art
37:56from the gallery.
37:58Wow. I don't know if she smuggled it.
38:00I don't know if there was, like, a Thomas Crown affair
38:02thing going on there.
38:04Okay, let's go to the categories.
38:06As you know, there's the five categories.
38:08So I'm gonna start with
38:10craftsmanship.
38:12And I'm just gonna go right to it.
38:14Heather and Tariq, you won
38:16craftsmanship.
38:18You're the contractor, right?
38:20Contractor? He's the contractor, right?
38:22Heather and Tariq,
38:24little touch-up paints and things that just happened.
38:26Christina, there was
38:28some, like, seaming on the
38:30stairwell. It can be fixed.
38:32But today was judgment day.
38:34So to confirm, you said we won craftsmanship?
38:36Heather and Tariq, craftsmanship.
38:38On to transformation.
38:40You both had a lot
38:42to do as far
38:44as movement of walls, moving windows,
38:46removing fireplaces.
38:48But Christina,
38:50this goes to you.
38:52Every time.
38:54The kitchen was where the living room
38:56is now, and so that
38:58alone was just a huge undertaking.
39:00I just win sometimes.
39:02Use of space.
39:04This was tough. Poor Heather, you're gonna
39:06kill me. That corner with
39:08your beautiful light fixture that you loved
39:10was just, in my opinion, a waste
39:12of that space. I'll do the lights next time.
39:14Be quiet. Use of space is going
39:16to Christina. Oh, my God.
39:18That's 2-1.
39:20This is all because of your light.
39:22I'm just saying, it was a weird looking
39:24light. I told you it was a weird light.
39:26You never saw the damn light.
39:28Amanda, before we move on, can I remind my husband,
39:30you're on my team. We're on the same team.
39:32So, we might
39:34lose sometimes. It's not because of my damn
39:36light, okay?
39:38Overall design,
39:40they were both lovely.
39:42There were some nice arched doorways.
39:44There were the bifold
39:46doors. I liked your
39:48fireplace. I liked the way that it flowed
39:50with the kitchen, the porcelain from the kitchen
39:52countertops, but all in all,
39:54Heather and Tark, I liked yours.
39:56Now...
39:58Oh, man.
40:00This is tough. This is the added value.
40:02Okay.
40:04Added value. You guys had the beautiful
40:06built-in. You had the bifolds.
40:08Christina, the detail
40:10on the stairway, the fluting and the lighting,
40:12the fireplace in the living room.
40:14Do I just say the winner?
40:16Yes! You're killing us
40:18here, Amanda! Okay. So, added
40:20value.
40:22Heather and Tark,
40:24you didn't
40:26get added value.
40:28Oh, come on!
40:30The built-in wasn't how
40:32you envisioned it. You should always
40:34have a plan B in your design.
40:36I heard stairs. I thought we were doing a living room.
40:38You told you there was a staircase.
40:40I'm just saying, they kind of had an unfair
40:42advantage, you know, because they got to use other
40:44spaces that wasn't really the same space
40:46and then they took out one of our first
40:48spaces. When you guys win, do I
40:50complain and bring up dog s***?
40:52Who's complaining? I'm just stating
40:54facts. This is my life.
40:56On the first round, you might have cheated a little
40:58and on today, you might have cheated a little.
41:00Oh, my God.
41:02There's different categories. You gotta go
41:04in the categories. Who made up these stupid categories?
41:06You! We all did, as a group.
41:08I wanna redo. I'm sorry.
41:10I still love you. And I'm not gonna hold this
41:12against you. I'm not. I'm gonna hold it
41:14against her. Not you, though.
41:16You hold everything against me. Your whole life.
41:18I'll let you guys continue that.
41:20A lot of holding. Bye.
41:22Enjoy your night as the
41:24losing team. I'm gonna block you. Don't send
41:26me any f***ing videos either. I already blocked you
41:28so you can't block me. Oh, my God.
41:30Bye, second place. Oh, my God.
41:32So pissed. What happened?
41:34Nothing. Go away. Go home.
41:36Oh, my God.
41:38Now it's gonna humble
41:40him a little bit, you know? They needed
41:42that. He had to get his collar yanked.
41:44I think just a little bit, because he was like...
41:46Oh, his head's so big. He's full through the freaking
41:48atmosphere. I'm gonna go have some champagne.
41:50Enjoy your night, sweetie.
41:52I feel like I wanna throw something at them.
41:54Overall value? We had a freaking
41:56bifold. Probably shouldn't have told her about the freaking
41:58entertainment center. She would have never
42:00known. That was our judge. Yeah, I know.
42:02We cannot lose two in a row. I refuse
42:04to lose again. I'm gonna go upstairs
42:06and cry in the corner. What are you talking about?
42:08You're leaving? Get down here.
42:10Feels good.
42:16What are you gonna pick? Guest bedroom, bathroom.
42:18Transformation should be thrown out.
42:20No, I do not agree. Is the designer
42:22scared? Have you picked the judge yet?
42:24My second ex-husband, Anthony Anstead.
42:26What? Josh.
42:28I have my advantage ready to be
42:30picked up. That's the same as ours.
42:32Oh, no. They're here. We get the devil.
42:38The small details in here
42:40are really driving me crazy. Like? The paint's missing
42:42in the corner there. Perhaps isn't finished correctly.
42:46No point in human existence
42:48should anybody put wallpaper on ceilings.
42:50I came in thinking this was about
42:52the design, the execution, but actually
42:54this isn't about houses at all.
42:56What's going on?
