00:00And the Dolphins, according to NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe,
00:05the Dolphins are going to let safety Javon Holland test free agency
00:11and do not plan to use the franchise tag on the snowman.
00:17There's a couple of things here.
00:19No, Leroy, explain it.
00:21There's a couple of things here.
00:25It kind of has the same feel of the Christian Wilkins deal
00:28where he played and now they really don't feel like they can afford him.
00:35But the thing that bothers me is if I'm Chris Greer
00:44and there's questions about how I draft or whatever,
00:49you're not helping your cause by getting rid of all the guys you drafted.
00:53Nope.
00:54And so you got to have some, you know, staples, some guys,
01:03some young guys you brought in.
01:06They playing all these contract games with the guys they drafted.
01:10That usually doesn't end well.
01:13No, it doesn't.
01:14I mean, it bit him in the ass last year with Andrew Van Ginkle,
01:18certainly even at a much –
01:20Look, the Wilkins thing was a pretty public thing for a couple of years.
01:23We kind of knew where that was going.
01:25Javon, it's an interesting one because, like,
01:28I think by most people's eyes, like, it wasn't his best season.
01:33But I still think there's a lot of people that look at him
01:36and be like, oh, he's 24, 25 years old.
01:39He obviously got a lot of dynamic talent.
01:43He has been playing banged up.
01:45I mean, he had the year where he had the two knee injuries.
01:47Last year he played with the thumb and some other stuff.
01:49There was some questions about whether or not, you know,
01:52did he lay it all out on the line during certain seasons
01:54because he was making business decisions.
01:57I don't know.
01:58You know, but I do think that the guy's not a bum.
02:02And, again, you're going to probably get nothing for him.
02:04Right.
02:05You're going to end up losing a guy who definitely was a good pick.
02:11And, you know, now we're at the –
02:13Let's think of all the guys.
02:15Yeah.
02:16Javon Holland.
02:17Yeah.
02:18Mika Fitzpatrick you traded.
02:19Christian Wilkins walked.
02:22Van Ginkle walked because you didn't want to give him $10 million.
02:29Who else?
02:30I mean, the first –
02:31I mean, Noah Binagwede played a lot for the Commanders last year.
02:33Noah, right.
02:35So, like, there's just –
02:37And they –
02:38What's the point?
02:39Don't have any draft picks then.
02:41Yeah.
02:42It seems like they're costing you more problems than they are helping.
02:45But that's the thing that he's like –
02:46Look, Chris Greer very clearly has a comfort in the known quantity.
02:52Like, he likes making the home run cuts.
02:55He likes making monster trades.
02:56That's what he likes doing.
02:57Right.
02:58And I think from his standpoint, you know, losing another guy from this young
03:05defense is –
03:07Yeah, it is disappointing because I think my thought is he's going to go
03:11somewhere else and he's going to be Ed Reed.
03:12He's going to be –
03:13He's going to ball out.
03:14Right.
03:15But my whole thing is is that part of the reason why you can question his
03:19drafting is because the players that actually pan out aren't on your team.
03:26Yeah.
03:27Yeah.
03:28I mean, I think just his running of a team right now is in question.
03:31I think that's what everybody is looking at and being like, can this guy –
03:34This guy was basically like, all right, he tore down –
03:38He tore down to the studs.
03:40And, you know, it was like, oh, that's cool.
03:43I need that.
03:44But then also, man, it would be really cool if I had a waterfall fountain that
03:49was in my foyer, you know?
03:52Right.
03:53And it's like, well, don't you need a kitchen sink?
03:55Nah, dude, waterfall.
03:57I'll just wash my dishes in the waterfall.
03:59That's pretty much –
04:02So now you have –
04:04And if it's not proof now, it should be in the future that if you don't have an
04:12offensive and defensive line, you can't win.
04:16And we have all the skill positions you could ask for.
04:20So seeing the way Philly played, seeing the way Detroit played,
04:27seeing how Kansas City struggled, everybody in the league should be
04:33fortifying their offense and defensive line.
04:36Right.
04:37And getting a viable run game.
04:39We have –
04:41The Dolphins have signings that in the scheme of things, the way football and
04:50successful football is played, in the scheme of things, those pieces are
04:56irrelevant to the success of your football team because you got some of the best
05:07receivers and cornerbacks in the league.
05:11But it don't matter if you don't have a pass rush or protection for your
05:15quarterback.
05:17And that's kind of where this team is.
05:19So I don't know how you go about that.
05:22We've all seen the success that teams have had recently.
05:28And we consistently, after every Super Bowl, point to a dominant performance by
05:33a defensive lineman or a line or what have you.
05:37So as long as I've been around football, those things have been consistent with
05:44successful football.
05:47They have been.
05:48And I think with Holland, it's, look, you're going to come into a year and the
05:54people who are like, hey, don't break the bank on a guy who gave you no
05:58interceptions last year.
05:59Now, to be fair, he did basically win you the Jags game.
06:02Like, he won that game punching out that fumble.
06:04Had a broken hand the whole time, too.
06:06I saw him drop a couple picks, I understand.
06:08I mean, not a broken hand, you know, the thumb issue that you mentioned.
06:11Yeah, the soft cast thing.
06:12Yeah, he essentially was playing with one hand.
06:14And he does have some injury issues that you do want to keep an eye on, for
06:17sure.
06:18But like you guys were mentioning, if you don't retain young talent, what's
06:20the point of drafting?
06:21Right.
06:22Exactly.
06:23And so are we going to, in the future, build the team like Pat Raleigh,
06:29Epdom picks?
06:31I don't know.
06:32I mean, because that's the thing.
06:34It doesn't ever feel like there's any foresight with the Dolphins.
06:36It feels like they're always on their back foot with this stuff.
06:40It does.
06:43And it seems sometimes I wonder if they're watching the same NFL I'm
06:47watching, right?
06:50Sometimes I'm wondering, like, they had a successful run game one year where
06:55all that outside stuff was working.
06:59But if you look at the teams that have success and go far in the playoffs,
07:03they all run in between the tackles.
07:06Now, however that works, right, you got to have a solid run game at certain
07:14parts of the game and the season.
07:17And so I've never, like, and I tell you this every week, the thing that
07:24drives me crazy the most with this team, I've never seen a team get more
07:29second and thirteens and second and fourteens than the Miami Dolphins.
07:33It's baffling to me.
07:36If a team were to just snap the ball and take a knee, they'd be in a better
07:40position than the plays they are called.
07:43That's crazy.
07:45It'd be less razzle-dazzle, dude.
07:46It wouldn't be as cool.
07:49I mean, I guess.
07:52It's just crazy to me how, like, and look, I will say this.
08:00I'm going to say Chris Greer knows more about building a team than I do.
08:05I'm going to say that because that's his profession and it's not mine.
08:10However, a guy that's seen as much football as he has to neglect the
08:18offensive line or to not try and build, especially with Tua,
08:25the best offensive line possible.
08:30I think he should take some of the heat.
08:34But it also seems like they're at a weird spot with that, too, because it's
08:37like, right now, they don't seem to even know, is Teron coming back?
08:41Is he not?
08:43Are they going to have their second-round pick even play next year in
08:46Patrick Paul?
08:48Very clearly, they're going to probably move on from Eikenberg unless he's
08:51playing for Peanuts.
08:52I don't know.
08:53But it seems like they'll probably end up with two new guards next year.
08:56You assume that Jackson's going to come back and play.
08:59Brewer was good last year.
09:01But you need some kind of consistency.
09:03The thing that has plagued us all.
09:05It's hard to do that if you have, respectfully, to Teron.
09:10I know he played 15 games last year.
09:13He didn't play 15 games.
09:15He didn't finish 15 games last year.
09:17So I don't know, man.
09:19That's the other thing.
09:20Where is even the foundational of this build or fixing?
09:24Where is he going to start?
09:26The problem is that at one of your most important positions, you always have
09:34to have a backup plan.
09:37Right?
09:38And at offensive line, your backup plan shouldn't be so extensive as they
09:46have to be when you're playing with this offensive line.
09:51And Teron's awesome when he plays and he's healthy.
09:54But it's maybe those three or four weeks that he doesn't finish a game or
10:02doesn't play that you have to be prepared for.
10:07Right.
10:09Now, if Patrick Paul was farther along to where they thought he could do the
10:18job, then it would be a no brainer.
10:22Yeah.
10:23But let's say he comes back next year and then you have a year where it's
10:27like, all right, Teron does the same thing.
10:30He plays 13 or 17 games.
10:33But then you're getting into year three with a second round pick.
10:37Well, that's a four-year contract.
10:39You don't even know if the guy's going to be a capable starter or not.
10:42That bothers me with what the Heat do, too.
10:45Like they'll not play young guys.
10:47And then when the guys start playing, you've now played them one year and now
10:51you've got to max them out.
10:53Get your money's worth.
