00:00The hot stove around the winter in MLB coming to a close, especially if you insert a deadline of
00:07Monday evening to negotiate a long-term contract extension with your organization, which is what
00:13Vladimir Guerrero Jr. did with the Toronto Blue Jays. And by various indications, they weren't
00:21really all that close, as Vladimir Jr. will enter the final year of his contract in 2025.
00:28Vladimir Jr. saying that the Blue Jays didn't really get all that close. GM Ross Atkins for
00:34Toronto saying, we made a lot of aggressive offers. Regardless, the deadline is through.
00:40Vladimir Guerrero Jr. does not want to negotiate a new deal during this season, even though the
00:45season is still a little bit more than a month away. Donnie, what do you make of VladiWatch up
00:51in the six? Yeah, well, he's seeing how much some of these other guys are getting paid. And let's
00:55just say a Juan Soto basically feels like he's going for a billion dollars in show time. He's
00:59like, well, I at least should be half as paid as those guys here and maybe rightfully so. But also,
01:05that means that you get to free agency where everybody can bid on you. You have to understand
01:09this. A team is going to say, yes, we love you. You know, we will take care of you. You've been
01:14with us. Homegrown talent. Let's just see if we can work something out. But then the agent's going
01:18to say, well, I think he's worth this amount. You're not worth that amount unless you have
01:22competition who's actually going to pay you, which means once you get the free agency,
01:26all it takes is three teams to get into a bidding war and it starts at two hundred fifty million
01:29and ends at four hundred million dollars. But the Toronto Blue Jays feel right now they're
01:33probably bidding against themselves. And why would they give you overall true market value
01:38when you're not a free agent just yet? Now, you can spin the wheel and do one of those things.
01:42Hey, you know, Vladi, you go out there, find that contract, make sure your agent gets back to us.
01:46We'd love to sign you. We just want to make sure that deal is valid. But it is also interesting.
01:49We always have these imposed deadlines because you do need deadlines, even if they are meaningless
01:53at this point, because up until the season actually starts, you want to set it just to
01:57see where the team is at. Are they willing to negotiate, move forward or no? So you say no.
02:02At this point, there's still going to be talks. You're not going to break down and not go ahead,
02:05because I joked the start of the show to say for Vladi Jr., if they offer him exactly what he wants
02:10today and he goes, oh, no, no, no, no. That deadline was last night. I'm not going to
02:13negotiate. That's not going to happen at this point. You would like to see something work out.
02:16But the jokes play themselves where it's like, you know what? He's going to be a Dodger next year.
02:20Let's just accept it.
