Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Washington now has a "better understanding" of Moscow’s stance following the first high-level US-Russia talks since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
Speaking after the meeting in Riyadh, Lavrov called the talks “useful” and confirmed both sides agreed to establish a process for resolving the Ukraine conflict and easing diplomatic restrictions.
He also warned that any NATO troop deployment to Ukraine, even under different flags, would be unacceptable.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he believes Moscow is ready for "serious" negotiations and that Washington is seeking a "fair and sustainable" resolution.

00:00The conversation was, I believe, very useful.
00:05We not only listened, but also heard each other, and I have reason to believe that the
00:11American side began to better understand our position, which we, on the basis of multiple
00:17speeches by President Putin, have laid out in detail on specific examples once again.
00:23I think that the agreements that we have reached, the first and, probably, the most urgent
00:30and, moreover, not the most difficult, are to ensure the immediate appointment of ambassadors
00:38of Russia to the United States and the United States to Russia, second, to remove the barriers
00:45that for many years, first of all, the Biden administration in the last four years, have
00:52imposed on the direction of our diplomatic missions, seriously complicating their work.
01:00We explained to our colleagues today that President Putin has repeatedly emphasized that NATO's
01:08expansion, Ukraine's absorption by the North Atlantic Alliance is a direct threat to the
01:15interests of the Russian Federation, a direct threat to our sovereignty.
