00:00The final U.S. presidential debate between President Donald Trump and former Vice President
00:11Joe Biden was a much calmer version of their first standoff.
00:16It offered starkly divergent views on a range of topics, mostly dominated by the fight against
00:22the coronavirus.
00:23With the candidates' microphones turned off at times while the other was speaking, a new
00:29rule implemented to avoid a repeat of constant interruptions in the first debate, their facial
00:35expressions often did the talking.
00:37But although the tenor of the debate was sedate, the conflict in matters of substance and vision
00:43could not have been more dramatic in the six segments that were discussed – fighting
00:47COVID, American families, race in America, climate change, national security, and leadership.
00:56So while Trump defended his handling of the health crisis and promised that the pandemic
01:01was going away, Biden said there was a dark winter ahead.
01:06On race, while Biden called out Trump's previous refusals to condemn white supremacists, the
01:13President countered by pointing out his efforts on criminal justice reform.
01:17There were no knockout punches, although the most heated exchanges were over mutual accusations
01:24of draft.
01:25Trump and Biden also traded blows on the U.S. leader's friendship with North Korea's
01:29Kim Jong-un, which the President said had kept the peace in the Korean Peninsula.
01:37Biden referred to the North Korean leader as a thug.
01:41With more than 47 million votes already cast, and with fewer undecided voters at this point
01:48than in previous years, it remains to be seen how much this debate will influence the voters
01:54on November 3rd.
