The 2024 Acura ZDX Type S is the luxury electric vehicle version of the Honda Prologue EV I tested out in the last video. The top trim of the Acura ZDX will cost you $74,500. What you get for that is a 499-HP Dual Motor with All-Wheel Drive (AWD) with a 102 kWh battery and a range of 278 miles and premium features like Hands Free Cruise. Not only is it more stylish and premium with its design, but its performance and handling are much improved. It's an exhilarating ride for sure, but is it worth it?

00:00If you don't know, Acura is the luxury brand of Honda
00:03In my last video, I test drove the Honda Prologue for a week
00:07To measure its comfort and its performance
00:09Look at that!
00:09Let's buckle up, safety
00:11This is the Acura ZDX Type S
00:13It's built on the same platform
00:15But is it $20,000 more impressive?
00:23Great, you can fold down the rear seats
00:25But for a luxury car, I was expecting it to be electronic
00:29Nope
00:30Let's see the inside
00:31Jump right in
00:32Oh, the white and black accent
00:35I definitely sense some Prologue aesthetics here
00:39God, I don't know why they didn't update this
00:41It's exactly the same size display
00:44Antiquated, boring looking
00:46Although, you know, it's black and white, whatever
00:48This looks slightly better
00:49It looks like it's a better panel
00:51Navigation set, we set off for New York City
00:53Our Double Apex Blue Pearl Type S is the top trim of the Acura ZDX
00:57And will cost you $74,500
01:00What you get for that is a 499 horsepower dual motor
01:03With all-wheel drive
01:05With 102 kilowatt-hour battery
01:06And a range of 278 miles
01:10This is exactly the same platform as the Prologue
01:14Sunroof looks exactly the same
01:17Controls, the dashboard looks exactly the same
01:20I can't even say if this is a lot more comfortable
01:23Even this here is identical
01:26So for an extra $20,000, that is tough
01:32Compared to other luxury vehicles
01:34I tested like the Gents
01:35The Gents is for some odd reason
01:37For the money, they really go overboard
01:40With the features, the look, the interior space
01:42The amount of features
01:43It's very different
01:45It's a big contrast to this
01:47Look at that
01:49It's the same thing as the Prologue
01:51At least change it up
01:52Make the lights a little bit brighter
01:53Or I don't know
01:55It doesn't feel luxury to me
01:56And granted, yes
01:58They're not going to put a lot of emphasis
01:59On the visor here
02:01But man, it could have been a little better
02:04The other thing I noticed about this
02:06Over the Prologue
02:07Is that you have the auto-dimming rearview mirror
02:10So for at night with the headlights
02:12It dims it so it's not straining your eyes
02:15And I believe the Prologue also has it
02:17On the side mirrors
02:18But you get here and also the mirror up here
02:21As far as comfortable
02:22I want to say it's equally as good
02:25As far as the seats go
02:26I want to say they're the same level of comfort
02:28You know, the leather type materials
02:30Plush, it's breathable
02:32They do have the heated ventilated seats
02:34Which is great
02:35Steering wheel?
02:37Surprisingly, I want to say this might be
02:39Actually smaller than the Prologue
02:42One thing I do notice is the sound
02:44Definitely the soundproofing seems to be
02:45A little bit better here
02:47But again, the true test will be on the highway
02:49When we're driving pretty fast
02:50Is it exhilarating?
02:52I'll find out when I get to the highway
02:55So we're driving on the highway
02:58Pretty much cruise speed
03:00And I could hear just a little bit of noise
03:03Just a little bit of that wind
03:04But a little bit quieter than the Prologue
03:07If there's one feature I really want
03:10In any vehicle, even an EV
03:12It's super cruise control or smart cruise control
03:14Because I think it's a really helpful feature
03:17For this long distance driving
03:18And I gladly pay the extra money
03:20To get the Prologue
03:21Because I think it's a great feature
03:23And I gladly pay the extra money for it
03:25Cruise control on
03:27Let's set our speed
03:29Let's 70 right now
03:31And then press this button to activate
03:34It goes green
03:35Technically, it is steering the car for me
03:38But it's an assist feature
03:41Oh, there it is, auto lane change
03:44Cool
03:45Nice feature
03:47Comfort and convenience right there
03:50Let's do that again
03:51Right
03:52It's going to look if it's clear
03:54And just like that, it will change the lane for me
03:58I know in this super cruise control system
04:01It will disengage if you're not paying attention
04:04To the road in front of you
04:05If you have, there are actually infrared camera sensors
04:07Right here into the steering wheel
04:09So if it senses that you're looking away
04:10For an extended period of time
04:12It will stop it
04:13You'll feel the buzz and totally stop it for you
04:17Let's find out if it does it
04:19Oh, it doesn't give a sh**
04:21Not yet
04:24Oh, there it is
04:25Hands-free cruise control disengaging
04:28And that is a safety precaution
04:30Because again, while these are great convenience features
04:33For any luxury car
04:34You still have to be mindful about your driving
04:37It's more there to be an assistive feature
04:40Versus a fully autonomous one
04:42When I first tried it out, I was terrified
04:44You know, I had my hands on the wheels still
04:47There's something about giving an EV, a computer
04:50Complete control of the vehicle you're in
04:52It is terrifying that way
04:54Can you say that you're exhilarated?
04:56I am exhilarated
04:57I'm happy because that's one less thing
04:59For me to worry about
05:00You know, we're not quite there at fully automated
05:03But it's nice to have
05:05There we go
05:07There we go
05:08It's doing it
05:11Wow, okay
05:12If you're doing a lot of long distance driving
05:14You just drive for an hour
05:16Those are small touches
05:18That make a big difference
05:19Because now you can rely on the car
05:21More confidently to do the driving for you
05:24A quick pit stop gave us the opportunity
05:26To try the parking assist feature
05:28I'll let you know when to back in
05:31So maybe it's our right
05:32Oh no, we don't want that
05:33We want left
05:36See if it can do this
05:38By itself
05:39Oh, it's backing up
05:40I have no idea which one's gonna do it
05:42We're stopping
05:44Fail
05:50Clearly wants to go in the middle
05:53Oh my gosh, it's too slow
05:55Yeah, no, that was not smooth
05:56That was not comfortable
05:58It was exhilarating though, I gotta say
06:01Okay, we can't do this
06:02We're not doing this here
06:04We're not...
06:05Yeah, get the f*** out of here
06:07With that abust
06:08There was only one more thing to do
06:10As we approached New York City
06:12I don't have high expectations here
06:13But let's find out
06:14A lot more organized
06:16You know, a little bit more clean looking
06:18You don't have all everything exposed
06:20But yeah, no extra storage here
06:23No problem
06:25There are a lot of things I love
06:25About the Acura ZDX Type-S
06:28You have the stylish, aggressive design
06:30You have the super cruise control
06:32Which I absolutely love
06:33And it handles a lot better in the highways
06:36But is that all worth an extra $20,000 over the Pro-Lux?
06:40I don't think so
06:41I think it's a little bit overpriced
06:43Over the Pro-Lux
06:44I don't think so
06:45Yes, it's comfortable
06:46And yes, it's also exhilarating
06:49But I was expecting more for an extra $20,000
06:52What do you guys think?
06:53Which one did you like better?
06:54The Pro-Lux or the Acura ZDX Type-S?
