00:00Yes, so my name's Sam and you're at Par Society. It's going to be the new indoor golf simulator venue for Portsmouth.
00:07Perfect, yeah, yeah. So obviously currently still kind of in the works at the moment, still putting it all together, what's going to be here, what's going to be the...
00:16Yeah, so you're going to have three bays, one behind the cells, two either side, for left and right handers, one that's just right handers only.
00:25And yeah, it's just going to be a fun place to hang out, come play golf and give it a go.
00:29Yeah, perfect. So you say you've got to have simulators, so yeah, what kind of simulators are there?
00:38So these simulators are called proties, which won't mean a lot to many people, but they're overhead launch monitors, so they watch the ball from above and they take the data and that's what drives the game.
00:52It shows you where your ball's going to go, so it knows where your ball's going to go before you've finished hitting it.
00:56Right, okay.
00:57So they're a crazy bit of kit.
00:59Yeah, yeah. Okay, so you can kind of come in here and you can play almost a full round if you wanted to.
01:04Yeah, so you've got multiple options, you can do challenges, you can do practice or you can play a full round of golf.
01:10At the moment there's 1,400 courses on there, so you can play famous courses like Augusta, Pebble Beach, places like that.
01:18I think nine holes on your own is about 40 minutes.
01:21Okay.
01:22And then if there's two of you about an hour, so yeah, you can pop down with two of your mates in an hour playing nine holes on one of these famous courses.
01:30Yeah, that sounds cool. And yeah, how many people can play at a time?
01:35So we're going to limit it to four a day, that's just kind of how golf has been, and we don't want to make everyone feel crowded in here.
01:43But what we will also have is private events and functions, so if you want to have a party here you can hire it out.
01:48Yeah, so it's for any kind of levels of golf, is that right?
01:52Yeah, so the goal with Par Society is we're trying to make golf accessible and fun and affordable.
01:58So you could be a serious golfer, bring your own clubs, your own balls, your own tees and play nine holes and trying to beat your record.
02:06Or you could be someone who's never played golf, you don't need any balls, tees, clubs, golf clubs, anything, you can just rock up and have a go.
02:13Perfect.
02:14Yeah, that's what we want. We want more people to have a go and everyone to just enjoy it.
02:18What kind of sets this apart? You say it's quite advanced in terms of what kind of data does it give you?
02:24I think there's 40 points of data these things take, but I think the difference is if you've used the driving range in Portsmouth, it's good fun.
02:32But you're outdoors and you're having to queue a lot at the moment, which is one of the reasons I wanted to do this.
02:38And we're applying for a license, so eventually you'll be able to have a drink as well while you hang out.
02:44And yeah, this is going to be a place for people to just come hang out, meet friends.
02:48I hope people make friends too, that they can go and play golf.
02:51Go play Great Sultans with a new mate you met at Par Society and you'll just fall in love with golf.
02:57Perfect. And in terms of people that may be a bit more serious in the game, are you talking about data as well in terms of how advanced it can be?
03:06Is that something that people can use to improve their game?
03:09100%. So you can get all of your swing path, you can get all of your club head speed, ball speed, in to out, out to in, club face to ball.
03:18I know that means not much to many, but if you love golf, you can seriously get a lot better with watching.
03:24You get a replay of your club face hitting the golf ball, every shot. So you can really start to figure out what's wrong.
03:31And obviously, have you got an opening date in mind yet?
03:33Yeah, so we will be open 3rd March. Website goes live next week, so we can start taking bookings.
03:40And it gives me a bit of an incentive to get this finished now.
03:44Yeah, absolutely. And what kind of price is it?
03:47So it's going to be £15 an hour for one person, and then it's an additional £5 an hour per person.
03:53Yeah, come have a go. Have some fun. Don't worry if you hit bad shots, because I definitely do.
03:58Yeah, yeah. If you could bring my balls, this would be the first round of golf I've played where I don't lose a ball.
04:03Yeah, that's it. No losing balls. You don't have to walk. So if you are one of those people who zigzag across a course, you're going to be a lot less knackered here.
