00:00Starting now here with the American League Cy Young.
00:03Pardon me.
00:04Now, Tarek Skubal sits at the top at plus 350.
00:06Garrett Crochet is now 600, plus 600.
00:11Cole Reagans, if you're on this whole Royals bandwagon
00:14with the emergence of Bobby Witt, plus 1,100.
00:17The return of Jacob deGrom, plus 1,100.
00:19Logan Gilbert in a great pitcher's park, plus 1,200.
00:23Garrett Cole, Hunter Brown.
00:25Joe, what do you like and why?
00:28Well, I like Skubal at the top still, at plus 350.
00:32That makes a lot of sense to me.
00:34There's another guy, too, that might be on his way out
00:36somewhere soon, you know?
00:37Maybe the Detroit Tigers compete again.
00:39I like what they've done this off season,
00:41trying to be competitive.
00:42It was tough to get free agents there.
00:44I think bringing in Torres is an interesting, you know,
00:46maybe change of scenery for him.
00:48Not the best ballpark factor for him, theoretically,
00:50but maybe it's more of a mental thing for Torres
00:52just to get out of New York.
00:53But Skubal is really hard to argue against.
00:56He's become this, you know, left-handed,
00:58dominant starting pitcher here where I think
01:00you can see a lot of those big-time teams
01:03in the race for him in the next year or so.
01:05So we'll keep a close eye on that one.
01:07I mean, Skubal's just, he just lights out.
01:09Now, Crochet is fascinating that he's rocketed up
01:13to the number two spot here, and I understand why.
01:16If you look at just the raw statistics
01:18of a guy like Garrett Crochet,
01:20he struck out 209 guys last year.
01:22That was seventh best, but he did it in just 146 innings.
01:27Everybody else in that grouping was at 177 or more.
01:30So I get it.
01:31Statistically speaking, Crochet is very exciting.
01:33How does he react, though, pitching in that environment,
01:36in Fenway Park, in games that matter?
01:38It's a little different than pitching for the White Sox,
01:40so I'm not saying the pressure can get to him.
01:42I'm just saying it's not tested yet.
01:45Jacob deGrom to come back and Winnes-Syong,
01:47I think, is asking a lot.
01:48Comeback Player of the Year is intriguing,
01:50but that's a lot to me.
01:51Cole Riggins, obviously another guy
01:53with big strikeout potential,
01:54so him and Crochet are up there for a reason,
01:56but in terms of the best pitcher,
01:58best pitcher on this board is Tariq Skoobel.
02:00Garrett Cole, an intriguing value.
02:02I do wanna say, though,
02:04Logan Gilbert's the guy that really stands out to me, too.
02:06I don't think people appreciated
02:08just how good Logan Gilbert was,
02:09and if Skoobel has any hiccups
02:11or any health issues whatsoever.
02:13Logan Gilbert, last year, a 3-2-3 ERA,
02:15over 33 starts through 208 innings.
02:18That's more innings than Zach Wheeler.
02:20That's more innings than Tariq Skoobel.
02:22That's more innings than Chris Sale.
02:24He had 220 strikeouts, a .89 whip.
02:26That .89 whip was better than Tariq Skoobel.
02:29It was better than Chris Sale.
02:30It was better than Zach Wheeler.
02:32The problem is he only won nine games.
02:34Why?
02:35Because nobody scores runs in the Seattle Mariners.
02:38It's frustrating.
02:39So if the Mariners fix that just a little bit,
02:41Logan Gilbert might finally win 15, 16 games,
02:45and I know they say,
02:46oh, wins don't matter anymore, but they do.
02:48They do, and he pitches on the West Coast,
02:49and it doesn't get the same attention
02:50as some other guys do on the East Coast
02:52or even in the Central Time Zone,
02:53so keep an eye on Logan Gilbert at plus 1,200.
02:56I really like that potential for him,
02:58and I know you're interested in Logan Gilbert, too.
03:00You see what I see, which is there's potential here
03:02for the, I think, national media and national fan base
03:06to really understand, hey,
03:08this guy's one of the best pitchers in baseball,
03:10and last year, he was right there with all the guys
03:12that were winning these awards.
03:14Agreed.
03:15The skilled orator that is Joe Pisapia makes a great point.
03:19You know, it's hard to see in that park.
03:20The batter's eye is difficult.
03:22You mentioned that they don't score runs.
03:23Listen, you need one, sometimes three, right?
03:26We had a stat, I think they're 43-7 last year
03:29when they scored three or more runs,
03:30so do that for Logan Gilbert.
03:33The next name on the list, though, to me,
03:35is, I think, Shane McClanahan.
03:37I think this is a great lineup.
03:39Isn't Eli Jimenez there, as well?
03:41The staff is deep.
03:42The path to wins is there, as well,
03:44if Fairbanks is healthy,
03:45so I think that's something that we can look at, as well.
03:48I do like the school bull notion,
03:50just watching him pitch.
03:52He's just an absolute hoss,
03:53and I'll throw another long shot at you here,
03:55and I know you might not like it,
03:56but I think Max Freed can evolve into greatness as a Yankee,
03:59and I think the pen gives him win equity,
04:01so I think there's definitely some opportunity here.
04:04So you think that Max Freed can separate himself
04:06from Garrett Cole?
04:07Do I just, because he's fresh and new,
04:09you think maybe that's all you need?
04:10No, I think Garrett Cole's taking a step back.
04:12I think Max Freed and the rest of the staff
04:14is gonna take a step forward,
04:15and I think that's where it's gonna stand out.
04:18All right.
04:19And McClanahan, look, McClanahan, for me,
04:21is another guy, too, that, like, I love the talent.
04:23I'm just curious to see, you know,
04:24we are taking somebody out of that
04:26uber-great pitching environment in Tampa
04:29into a whole different environment we just don't know,
04:32but if it's a good one, there's value here, plus 2,000,
04:35so you do have some huge value there
04:37to even just make money, and he doesn't have to win it.
04:39He's just gotta get in the conversation by midseason.
