00:00The Philippine Men's Curling Team has arrived in the country early in the morning

00:04and was able to win the first gold medal in the 9th Harbin Asian Winter Games.

00:11That's the guess of their teammate, Daryl Oclares.

00:16After winning the first gold medal of the Philippines in the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China,

00:23our Philippine Men's Curling Team is in the country.

00:27Around 11.30 p.m. last night, the airplane our team was flying in was wearing the gold medal

00:34that became a highlight for the Philippine sports since the country started to grow in the Asian Winter Games in 1990.

00:41Mark Pfister, Christian Haller, Enrico Pfister, Alan Frey, and Benjo Delarmente

00:49were able to remember the gold medal game of the Men's Tournament last Friday

00:54that ended in a score of 5-3.

00:56In the interview of PTV Sports with Philippine Chef de Mission Richard Lem,

01:01he said that it wasn't easy for our Philippine Men's Curling Team to wear this gold medal

01:07especially since they were able to face the powerhouse countries when it comes to the sport.

01:12Well, it's a sweet victory.

01:14Especially, it's the first time.

01:17And I was the one who cut down the CDM.

01:20So, for me personally, I'm very happy.

01:24Because I'm part of history.

01:26And I'm very proud of the team because they really worked hard for it.

01:30Lem also added that this victory proves that a tropical country like the Philippines can win

01:37in a winter sport like curling.

01:40I think we should give more attention also.

01:44Not necessarily that there's no winter here.

01:48We won't excel.

01:49We can.

01:50It can be done.

01:51I'm telling you, it can be done.

01:53First-hand, I saw that the Filipinos can do it.

01:56Among the participants of the Philippine Men's Curling Team

02:00is Philippine Sports Commission Chairperson Richard Bachman.

02:03According to Bachman, this medal will be used as a badge

02:07to give support to other sports that may bring glory to the Philippines.

02:13Hopefully, moving forward, we can also focus and support these other athletes in the future.

02:19And hopefully, other Filipinos will benefit.

02:23And hopefully, later on, we may have a facility.

02:27Hopefully, we can be helped by the private sector and build a facility for curling.

02:32And other athletes can actually join in.

02:35And we can actually perform in the future.

02:38The next preparation of the Philippine Men's Curling Team

02:41are the qualification tournaments for their expected places

02:45at the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics.
