00:00DAP Chairman Lim Kwan Eng hit out at critics of a Lim dynasty, saying that such claims

00:08were never made when he and his father, veteran leader Lim Kit Siang, were detained during

00:13their political careers.

00:15Kwan Eng noted that his father was imprisoned twice for his political beliefs and struggles

00:21for justice, yet some still accuse him of wanting to create a Lim dynasty.

00:26He also said no one had mentioned a Lim dynasty when he himself was imprisoned.

00:32Kit Siang was detained in 1969 and 1987 under the now-repealed Internal Security Act.

00:39Meanwhile, Kwan Eng was detained under the ISA in 1987 and later jailed for 18 months

00:45in 1998 on a sedition charge over an article about a 15-year-old girl allegedly raped by

00:52a politician.

00:53The sentence disqualified him as an MP and barred him from politics until 2008.

00:59DAP has often been labeled the Lim dynasty by political rivals, who cite the influence

01:04Kit Siang and Kwan Eng held over the party from 1970 to 2022, as well as the political

01:11rise of Kwan Eng's sister, Hui Ying, who is now a deputy minister and a party leader

01:16in Penang.
