00:00Well, Parliament's budget session is supposed to end in the next few days, but it's barely
00:09seen any work ever since it resumed in mid-March. In unprecedented scenes, we've actually seen
00:15the Treasury benches or the government disrupting both houses more than the opposition. They're
00:20demanding an apology from Rahul Gandhi on his comments in the UK that Indian democracy
00:24is in danger. While the opposition says all of this is a diversionary tactic because the
00:29government wasn't keen to talk about its links with the Adani group. In all of this, what
00:35is being steadily undermined is Parliament itself. If you look at the data, you can see
00:41that slowly and slowly, Parliament sessions over the last few years have been getting
00:47shorter and shorter. There are fewer and fewer discussions and debates that are taking place.
00:52Fewer bills are being sent to Parliament committees for scrutiny before they are passed. In fact,
00:57very often, legislation is passed through very hurriedly without any debate or discussion.
01:02So what does that actually mean for the institution of Parliament itself? These are some of the
01:07questions that we're exploring today.
