00:00Yeah, I mean the EU foreign policy chief Kaya Kallas says that Europe and Ukraine must be involved in the peace talks
00:06She's also suggested that President Trump had been making concessions before the talks had even begun
00:11I mean are we talking about negotiation at this stage or we talking about appeasement?
00:14Well, you know, this is a different kind of negotiator
00:18I'll have to give President Trump the benefit of the doubt on this
00:21There is criticism of him and there's a legitimate reason to criticize for example Secretary of Defense except yesterday
00:29Taking the NATO
00:30Expansion into Ukraine off the table
00:32But the reality is is that that was not an easy sell and it's not as if the Biden administration
00:38Adopted that position either and so while one could argue that's a bad negotiating tactic
00:43One could also argue that it takes away an impediment to a negotiation and put some realism into these discussions
00:51But again to the broader point
00:53Ukraine was invaded by Russia and
00:57Ukraine has lost territory to Russia and feels under threat as well as our European allies and NATO allies do as well
01:04so any
01:05Sustainable peace that will truly be solid and verifiable is going to require
01:11Ukrainian agreement a strong arm in Ukraine alone
01:15And and allowing Russia to obtain the gains that they sought militarily
01:20Will not guarantee that they won't go back at it again
