00:00The construction of the traditional Alaksa Mountain Province has kept the natural tradition alive,

00:17Barangay Tukukan in Bontoc Mountain Province is one of the communities that cares for their culture and tradition.
00:24One of the traditions that is still alive here is the shaknit, or the traditional way of squeezing the juice of the tree.
00:31Before the shaknit starts, the community prepares for one or two days.
00:35When everything is ready, a ritual is performed, a ritual for the official start of the tradition.
00:42As time goes by, the shaknit is not only a way of making fayash or traditional alcohol,
00:48but it has also become a symbol of the unity and strength of the community.
00:53This is what is taught to the youth to continue the tradition.
00:58The shaknit is important because through this,
01:02we, the youth, gather to celebrate and rejuvenate.
